Moonbat Grassroots

Whenever liberals falsely accuse you of something, you know what they’ve been up to. It was telling that Nancy Pelosi’s initial reaction to the spontaneous Tea Party was to denounce it as “Astroturf.” In her own camp, “grass roots” protesters have been undergoing formal training on how to disrupt the Republican convention:

Maria Agosto ducked into the back of an Orthodox church in Childs Park, Fla., pulling her hand-knitted pink scarf tighter as she settled in for three hours of protester training camp. It was early March in St. Petersburg, Fla.

A slender man in his mid-30s introduced himself as Grommit. It was not his real name.

“Doing direct actions changes something in your soul,” Grommit said. “It changes how you perceive yourself.”

Once, he had been a radical activist, climbing trees and cranes to drop banners for organizations like Earth First and the Ruckus Society. Now he had a wife, a 2-year-old, a paycheck he didn’t want to risk. Instead, he educated protesters.

“I try to prepare people for what they are getting into.”

The Republican National Convention is the protesting big leagues.

Funding for this sort of spontaneity shouldn’t be a problem, to judge by a report in the New York Slimes:

After months on the sidelines, major liberal donors including the financier George Soros are preparing to inject up to $100 million into independent groups to aid Democrats’ chances this fall. But instead of going head to head with the conservative “super PACs” and outside groups that have flooded the presidential and Congressional campaigns with negative advertising, the donors are focusing on grass-roots organizing, voter registration and Democratic turnout.

Here’s what they mean by “grass-roots”:

…in interviews, donors and strategists involved in the effort said they also did not believe they could match advertising spending by leading conservative groups like American Crossroads and Americans for Prosperity, and instead wanted to exploit what they see as the Democrats’ advantage in grass-roots organizing. …

In a move likely to draw in other major donors, Mr. Soros will contribute $1 million each to America Votes, a group that coordinates political activity for left-leaning environmental, abortion rights and civil rights groups, and American Bridge 21st Century, a super PAC that focuses on election-oriented research.

In an appallingly cynical example of the liberal divide and conquer strategy, a stated major objective of the mega-money Astrotuft campaign is to pour cash into infamously racist hard left Hispanic outfits in an attempt to poison Arizona and turn it into a swing state.

No doubt plenty will be left over to plan and finance Occupy Wall Street eruptions that will be presented as spontaneous.

The Daddy Warbucks of “grass roots” liberalism.

Somewhere in the Bible is mentioned that money is the root of all evil. Cronyism is better than communism.

As I said on another thread, why can’t he just go ahead and drop dead? At 82, it has to be close.

Is Soros the Beast (666), or just the False Prophet?

  6. Sam Adams says:

Thank God that the Koch brothers can be blamed for funding conservative groups issues, while ignoring Soros and his billions.

BTW, Soros made a pile of money from the Gulf Oil Drilling Ban and the US government lending money to PetroBras.

Soros is a remarkable study in moral relativism and opportunism like his beneficiary Obama. For example, he as no guilt about his old Nazi collaborator days in confiscating the property of Jews sent away to die in concentration camps, because, as he says in his own words, if he wasn’t there doing it, someone else would be –

KROFT: (Voiceover) And you watched lots of people get shipped off to the death camps.

Mr. SOROS: Right. I was 14 years old. And I would say that that’s when my character was made.

    KROFT: In what way?

Mr. SOROS: That one should think ahead. One should understand and – and anticipate events and when – when one is threatened. It was a tremendous threat of evil. I mean, it was a – a very personal experience of evil.

KROFT: My understanding is that you went out with this protector of yours who swore that you were his adopted godson.

    Mr. SOROS: Yes. Yes.

KROFT: Went out, in fact, and helped in the confiscation of property from the Jews.

Mr. SOROS: Yes. That’s right. Yes.

KROFT: I mean, that’s – that sounds like an experience that would send lots of people to the psychiatric couch for many, many years. Was it difficult?

Mr. SOROS: Not – not at all. Not at all. Maybe as a child you don’t – you don’t see the connection. But it was – it created no – no problem at all.

    KROFT: No feeling of guilt?

    Mr. SOROS: No.

KROFT: For example that, ‘I’m Jewish and here I am, watching these people go. I could just as easily be there. I should be there.’ None of that?

Mr. SOROS: Well, of course I c – I could be on the other side or I could be the one from whom the thing is being taken away. But there was no sense that I shouldn’t be there, because that was – well, actually, in a funny way, it’s just like in markets – that if I weren’t there – of course, I wasn’t doing it, but somebody else would – would – would be taking it away anyhow. And it was the – whether I was there or not, I was only a spectator, the property was being taken away. So the – I had no role in taking away that property. So I had no sense of guilt.
