No Global Warming for 16 Years; California Inflicts Cap & Tax to Stop It

If you find yourself tempted to believe anything whatsoever that the liberal authorities tell you, just remember global warming. What, you’ve already forgotten it? That could be because despite steadily rising CO2 levels that “the consensus” promised would turn the planet into an inferno, global warming ended half a generation ago:

The world stopped getting warmer almost 16 years ago, according to new data released last week.

The figures, which have triggered debate among climate scientists, reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012, there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures.

This means that the ‘plateau’ or ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996. Before that, temperatures had been stable or declining for about 40 years.

Again, despite a whole lot of CO2 put into the air. Obviously, Al Gore’s self-serving global warming theories are total bunk, no matter how they are hyped by the media.

Meanwhile, in the Land of Fruits and Nuts:

On Jan. 1, [California] will become the first state in the nation to charge industries across the economy for the greenhouse gases they emit. Under the system, known as “cap and trade,” the state will set an overall ceiling on those emissions and assign allowable emission amounts for individual polluters. A portion of these so-called allowances will be allocated to utilities, manufacturers and others; the remainder will be auctioned off.

Over time, the number of allowances issued by the state will be reduced, which should force a reduction in emissions.

That is, you will have to buy allowances in order to engage in economically productive activity, and these allowances will be steadily reduced, correspondingly reducing wealth generation.

Don’t worry about the effect this insanity will have on California’s already staggering economy. The other 49 will be glad to bail it out so that it can continue wallowing in irresponsible moonbattery until the entire country collapses under the sheer weight of liberal asininity.

Global warming: nonexistent.

Let me be clear: I commend California’s bipartisan leadership for taking such a bold step to meet my food stamp enrollment goals.

  2. Ummah Gummah says:

A pillow on Jerry Brown’s face would also reduce carbon emissions.

I dunno. A severe case of HUA syndrome hasn’t stopped his methane emissions.

  4. Cluebat from Exodar says:

Fact: We are currently in the middle of an ice age. It is named “The Pleistocene”.

Fact: The brief warm period in which we find ouselves at the moment is an interglacial period. It is named “The Holocene”.

Other fun facts: The Holocene began ~15,000 years ago and the warmest point ended ~5,000 years ago (climatic optimum). We have been cooling down ever since, but it is not a purely linear trend. The ice sheets will inevitably return. If we can delay that catastrophe by burning fossil fuels, then I’m all for that.

Don’t believe the hype. The real threat is our return to the deep freeze.

  5. Henry says:

Simply won’t work unless the whole world is on board… good luck getting China to sign on.

  6. Bo-Jangles says:

If the brain-dead cretins who live in Mexifronia tolerate this crap, then make them pay. The only question out there is, who’s more insane, the elected lying crooks in theor govt., or the mindless fools who keep them in power?

  7. Smokey says:

This is the internet’s most heavily-trafficked website on “climate change”, and it does a great job of debunking the global warming nonsense:

  8. 762x51 says:

I’ll add this to the list of reasons why I will never live in Kalifornia. Reason number 198,563 – Cap and Trade.

    Got it!

Every business in the state should move out of there.

  9. SkyWatch says:

“and assign allowable emission amounts for individual polluters.”

This is what jumped out at me.It would be awful easy for those in power to give extra to companies that donate to those same people in power.

  10. Ghost of FA Hayek says:

At one point I commented on the wagon trains of today headed OUT of California
Now it will quite literally be wagon trains

  11. bobby b says:

Just for the sheer fun, for the past five years I’ve been packing up all of the loose CO2 I could find lying around and mailing it to California.

Someone out there – just last month – finally figured out what I was doing, and I figured I was in big trouble.

Turns out they decided to give me a $39.4 billion grant to not mail any more.

So I called the governor’s office, and offered to not mail three times as much as I had been mailing, for only double the money.

    They’re thinking about it.

  12. Max says:

The whole global warming bull#@$$ is just a scam to steal more money from the taxpayers.
