Nonunion Workers Turned Away From Sandy Recovery Efforts

At least unions and the corrupt politicians they keep in their pockets are reliable. You can rely on them never to place the public interest ahead of their hold on power:

Utility … crews from Alabama got the shock of their lives when other workers in a coastal New Jersey town told them they couldn’t lend a hand without a union card.

Derrick Moore, who works for Decatur Utilities in Decatur, Ala., told WAFF-TV in Huntsville that crews in Seaside Heights, N.J. turned him and his crewmates away, saying they couldn’t do any work there because they’re not union employees. …

Another nonunion Decatur Utilities crew is idling in Roanoke, Va., waiting for instructions from Seaside Heights. The town asked them days ago for help, but later told the workers to stand down.

A rejected crew from the Joe Wheeler Electric Membership Co-op in Trinity, Ala. has already turned around and headed back to Dixie.

Electric repair work for public utilities in New Jersey is dominated by the International Brotherhood Of Electrical Workers, a unit of the politically powerful AFL-CIO.

It could be two weeks before everyone in New Jersey has their power back on.

So much for the promises from Big Union’s best friend Obama that there would be no red tape.

Update: Jersey Central Power & Light spokesman denies that anyone has been turned away.

Seaside Heights needs all the help it can get.

HA, I saw this on TV earlier, I love it! I hope you sniveling liberal scum in the northeast die freezing cold and starving to death in the dark. You put these union thugs and Marxist politicians in charge then FAILED to prepare yourself for disaster you therefore DESERVE everything you are getting now.

Self reliance and personal responsibility would have seen you through this disaster. When the disease starts to rise from the flood waters more of you will die. If you failed to have a bugout location inland and failed to have water, fuel, food, medicine, etc. on hand you are sheep, not people. The looting has started, disease is not far behind, police and emergency services are already overwhelmed, the death toll will rise and the best part is you did it to yourselves.

    Good riddance.

If the folks of New Jersey want their electrical power restored, they will just have to wait for the union workers to get around to them. Who wants to bet that these union workers still have their mandated breaks, work hours, overtime pay, etc., etc.?

This is part of what cause the USSR to collapse…bureauracy made workers so they didn’t care what did and didn’t get done.

People who still support unions can sit in the dark.

  3. Clingtomyguns says:

Here’s some more fundamental transformation from Obama’s base – pelting United Illuminating utility workers with eggs and objects because under the pretext they were turning on wealthy peoples electricity before theirs. The workers left without police protection. Better call the union to restore the power. Obama and his union cronies better get hopping … come Tuesday his base is not going to have enough power to charge an Obama phone to know where to show up to vote, or run an EBT card to by booze and cigs.

Instead of turning away fellow Americans wanting to do nothing but HELP OUT in a disaster situation, Union members and all of US should be turning away moooozeleeembehs like Edward Said and countless other SOWdi-sponsored terrorist “professors”, the odious moslem-brotherhood-affiliated Huma Abedin, who is married to the pervert Weiner, the disgusting iranian rattlesnake V. Jarrett, and this latest piece of headscarf filth to wash up on our fair shores:

Someone please tell me, how does all this moslem filth get into the country!!!!

What do they want from us.. oh well, I already know..

Looks like I’m not the only one who noticed that Gloomberg favors rich out-of-town Marathon Yuppies over the real needs of displaced storm vics:

This is no way to get us up & running
Generators should give power to people — not marathon

    Libs are CLUELESS, absolutely CLUELESS..

  6. Ummah Gummah says:

The RINO Gloomberg is the ULTIMATE MOONBAT. How he is allowed to remain in the Republican Party is beyond me. Someone needs to call him out and ask him to switch parties to where he belongs.

I know the Orange boner won’t have the cojones to do it.

Too bad, cause if I had the platform, I WOULD.

All these East Coast RINOS, like Christie and Gloomberg are using their party affiliation to provide cover for the wonderboy.

Same thing with BP and the gulf.
The ships and help HAD ARRIVED!!
ocantdo said no help is needed and we have unions that get first crack. Then something happened and the Cavalry went over the horizon.
    Best-o-luck NY liberals.
At least you wont have “scab” labor.
    I’m a scab,,,,,,,,,pick me. I’ll work.
Make sure those union thugs have a first rate break room. 20 minutes after 2 hours,45 minute lunch after four hours, then another 20 minutes after six hours.
TV, Microwave,(one per 20 employees/workers)Refridgerators, ample seating, brightly lit and air conditioned. Thank you for your support.

In your link, it was the MAYOR of Bridgeport that started the whole fiasco.
    Mayor for life Bloomberg refused National Guard help because, and I quote;
“The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”
It may be time to simply walk away and leave these libs to their utopian paradises.
Darwin will eventually cure their ills.

You got what you voted for folks.

  10. facebkwallflower says:

We the turned-away workers there volunteering or was it a paying job? Anyone clarify this for me? Thanks.

Normally a power utility requests help through a mutual assistance program

Pretty sure it was a paying job for those nonunion workers. What the union workers were upset about, they were cutting in on their overtime pay. Screw’em let the people sit in the dark and cry in their raw sewage.

  13. Cameraman says:

I heard on the Hannity Radio Show, all the yelling and taunting done by Union Workers, yelling “Get out of Here Scabs! Your Taking our Money away from our Kids Etc! What a Bunch of Commie Pukes! Hope they Enjoy the Water Park!

  14. Anne says:

I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After being without power for a week after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Gustav, I don’t who the HECK turns my power back on…. as long as it comes back on! I saw power trucks from Arkansas in my neighbor and broke down in tears!!

  15. Ghost of FA Hayek says:

I know a lineman who has been assigned to New Jersey for the next two weeks, but I believe his shop is unionized.
He did not get to choose whether to go or not.
So those workers sitting in limbo are not getting paid, but they can’t go home until told to
There is plenty of overtime to go around, all they want.
The real issue is those union jackasses

  16. chuck in st paul says:

I am just so dumbstruck. When the Murrah Building got blown up we had folks from all over America come help us and we greeted them with open arms.

When Katrina hit, folks came from all over America to help and were greeted with open arms.

When skilled labor comes to NY to help they get tossed out by union goons. I hope the body count goes through the roof – the locals earned it. “Escape From New York” was a documentary.

  17. chuck in st paul says:

Looney Bloomy doesn’t want the Guard there because they might shoot some of his voter base while they’re hauling stolen TV’s home.

Sanctimonious New Yorkers can vote for Bloomberg and claim that they are “moderate” voters who will cross the political line to vote for the right person. It plays into their “superior than everyone else” stereotype.
