Obama Bypasses Congress to Impose Black Boxes

Just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean Obama isn’t reducing my country to a totalitarian dictatorship:

Bypassing Congress, the Obama administration has issued a proposed administrative rule, which if adopted, would mandate the installation of “black boxes” in all automobiles and light trucks beginning in 2014.

As is so often the case when it comes to authoritarian overreach by our liberal rulers, this violation of our privacy is characterized as a safety measure, because the black boxes can tell the authorities what happened during car accidents. But as Horace Cooper of the National Center for Public Policy Analysis observes,

“Not only will this new requirement give new resources and data to the DOT to support more economically-damaging regulations in the future, this mandate itself represents an unprecedented breach of privacy for Americans.”

Despite government claims to the contrary, the devices

“can and will track the comings and goings of car owners and even their passengers.”

A measure that would allow car owners to disconnect or disable black boxes failed in the House. What would be the use of putting a telescreen in every apartment if potential enemies of the people were allowed to cover them up?

Big Brother will know where you drive.

On a tip from Wiggins.

Reminds me of the little black tracking devices the government likes to use under your vehicle these days, if they don’t like you. Parking in a garage don’t help if you take it out and walk away from it. Guess what’s under there when you get back to it.

“Oops, geeze – looks like a nail bounced up off the roadway and impaled the black box. What are the odds, huh?”

a disabled black box will result in a big fine, nail or not. France wants to pass a law requiring all cars to have a breathalyzer to start it.

  5. AC says:

Noncompliance will become impractical once a mileage tax is introduced and data uploads become required for vehicle registration and licensing.

If Beria had any regrets it would be that he was born too early.

Having sucked up all gas tax revenue to pay for light rail and bicycle trails, Minnesota is always open to these new forms of revenue.

  7. Jester says:

Can you imagine if this would have happened under the Bush administration?

Far cry from back in the day when France was still truly laisser-faire.. you could drive from château to château on an all-day tour-de-wine-tasting and still find your way back to wherever you were planning to stay the night..

They still had yellow headlights on their cars, which the EU has of course long regulated out of existence.

Our rulers take such great care of us, making sure we are safe by fining us when we don’t wear our seat belts and bicycle helmets, even down to making sure we don’t gorge on huge sodas and transfats.

Funny thing is.. why are they going through all this trouble to keep us safe and alive only to leave us defenseless to the mercies of various islamic terrorists, whose entry into our lands they have allowed and facilitated each and every step of the way?

Anyone see the story I posted earlier today about the 50yo transgender basketball player who is now on a female college Bball team?

    Well, guess what, kids?

    Seems like today is T-day:

Well lets see if it will work on my 69 VW beetle… I just park the truck unless its to and from the farm/hardware store anyway.

Big brother always knew where I drove since I bought my last car – not that I care from the perspective that I’m not going to do anything worth monitoring, but yeah it does sort of seem to be a violation of my rights.

I own a car that has both a GPS that keeps a record of where I’ve been (I have the capability to display it or not, but not to stop it from recording) and also the capability to link up via satellite.

    Do the math.

    Wow. From the link provided:

Transitioning from a man to a woman requires several intense surgeries and years of hormone therapy.
It’s unclear which procedures Tom Gabel plans to undergo, but here are a few of the procedures he’s likely to undergo:
Vaginoplasty – The man’s penis is turned inside-out to create a full-formed vagina.
Breast implants – Hormone therapy will cause patients to grow breasts, but many opt to enlarge them with implants.
Tracheal shave – Cartilage in the throat is removed and the Adam’s Apple is reduced
Jaw recontouring – The broad, sharp lines of the man’s jaw are softened by shaving down the jawbone.

Black boxes!!! That’s racist! They should be called Honky boxes!!!

  16. Robb says:

This is just step 1 to the “mileage tax”. I see from the comments above that MA isn’t the only state thinking about it. I guess those excise taxes, gas taxes and tolls will become a thing of the past once this goes through. LOL.

Chevy caprice classic. Millions of cheap parts. (illegally) converted to diesel, and now bio-diesel. (used deep fryer oil I can get for free). In chicago, cops dont pull you over much if u follow the rules. To many gang shootings to worry about.

  19. t=dubyah=d says:

ya’all realize that the purpose of the black box is to monitor the rate of speed you travel.Progressive insurance offers one to cut your rates, but they can track if you exceed the speed limit just once and raise your rates accordingly. Just saying.

  20. You think car sales are in a slump now wait until this these come out in the new cars! Best invest in a used car lot. LOL
