Obama Shuts Down Grand Canyon Unnecessarily

Friends are arriving here in Arizona today all the way from Connecticut. The plan was to see the Grand Canyon. But that isn’t going to happen, because Obama shut the Canyon down — completely unnecessarily:

The National Park Service has rebuffed attempts by governors and private citizens to reopen gates closed by the government shutdown at iconic public areas like Grand Canyon National Park and Mount Rushmore…

Gov. Jan Brewer (R) and a cadre of private interests offered to help fund a partial reopening of the Grand Canyon while the government shutdown grinds on, to no avail. Hundreds of parks, campgrounds, boat launches, and even some popular trail heads have been barricaded across the United States as thousands of National Park Service rangers and employees sit idle at home. …

Some are accusing the agency of “showdown theater,” aimed at pinning blame on Republicans and reminding people of the importance of the federal government.

“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an unnamed Park Service ranger reportedly told The Washington Times. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

Orders to close off even private facilities on leased public land that have been unaffected by past federal shutdowns have come down to National Park Service officials directly from the White House.

Observes private campground operator Warren Meyer,

“We employ no government workers … and we actually pay rent into the Treasury.” Thus, “I can only assume their intention is to artificially increase the cost of the shutdown as some sort of political ploy.”

The success of this ploy depends on the fealty of Obama’s Praetorian media. No one who knows what is really going on is going to blame Republicans for the Grand Canyon being closed after they traveled across the country to see it. The GOP has repeatedly passed funding bills to keep parks open; each has been killed by the Democrats who control the Senate, and who rely heavily on the public’s ignorance.

Obama’s strategy is pure Alinsky. Make everyone miserable, then direct public anger at the enemy. Republicans cannot give in even if they want to, due to his zero compromise policy. Their only alternative to allowing the shutdown is to capitulate completely on ObamaCare, which would render them irrelevant on that and every other issue. Republican representatives might as well resign en masse and go home.

But the strategy will blow up in Obama’s insolent face if the public gets wind of who is really inflicting the unnecessary misery and why. It might even occur to a few that states could manage parks much more reliably than the leftist radicals who are angling for complete control of the federal behemoth.

Shut down in an Obama power grab.

Just one of the many reasons why, when I turn on the computer every morning, I hope to find a very particular news story…

Bring the dept, heads before congress and have them explain the cost effectiveness of stompy pants orders.

Don’t any of these NPS people have the courage to say “No!” to Mr. Stompy Foot? Maybe, they need to follow the brave example of the vets who were willing to die rather than live under tyranny. The line between these NPS and the Nazis is getting closer.

Could Gov. Brewer send the Arizona National Guard to re-open the gates? What would obastard do then?

NEWS ITEM: “Scott Walker Defies Obama National Parks Shutdown Order”
RINO jan brewer in Arizona needs to get a pair like walker and do the same for the Grand Canyon. All she’s done so far is to ask pretty please would OBOZO let the state open the Canyon (with a big fat petty, vindictive, mean-spirited NO – GO F YOURSELF from OBOZO.)

  6. Drew458 says:

Just go. Move the cones and barricades yourself. Federal land is public land; We The People already own it. To hell with these idiots. Just don’t expect rescue if you do something stupid. So be smart.

It is time for mass acts of civil disobedience. Be peaceful and respectful, but go use every park and federal facility you can.

Joking with my grandson this morning that congress should think about declaring the entire southern border a National Park.

  8. IslandLifer says:

Since the Feds like to burn up the constitution the states ought to burn the notes on these lands and kick them out. Welfare flows as this administration sticks knives in the backs of the taxpayers. Keep the government shut down, let’s get this over with already.

I wonder if the Grand Canyon knows it is “closed”.

I’m surprised our socialist dictator hasn’t ordered the Grand Canyon filled in (I know, don’t give him any ideas).

Could this be why the National Parks Service got Millions of rounds of Hollow Point ammo?

The Treasonous Criminal Zerobama regime is waging war on the American People. This satisfies the Constitutional definition of Treason.

You serfs will be punished until you comply with the desires of Your Overlords. Get the Message. The Dictator and his Criminal Accomplices will inconvenience, will punish, and will terrorize the American People to enforce compliance. Meanwhile, Zerobama will enjoy his golf outings with celebrities, Empress Moo will dine and travel in fine style, and your Senators and Representatives will live in the lap of luxury. Shut up and eat your cake. The People will comply, or they will suffer.

Unless we Rise Up and put the Criminal Regime on a short leash. Otherwise, shut up and eat your cake.

I’m surprised that Obama hasn’t directed the park service to backfill the entire canyon! All those workers cold come off furlough, sand a gravel pits will be working full blast. All the truckers would be busy.

Hey, he could then bill it as part of his recovery package. It is truly “shovel-ready.”

  17. Momster says:

PS. and then in a couple of weeks, when this all goes down the memory-hole, he could hire laborers and truckers to dig it out again.

    Obama is a genius!

When flying in the southwest, you are likely to see the Grand Canyon. In fact, many pilots point it out. Are these pilots now under a gag order? If we weren’t actually living through it, it would almost be funny, like Alan Rickman demanding that they ‘Call off Christmas’,/a>.

The only way around this storm is through it. The nation is lost. Time to double down… let it burn.

All House Republicans, in order to avoid a default, should give the Senate everything they want by producing the legislation to the floor, and all voting “Present.” The few Yeas will pass it to the Senate, where EVERY Republican should vote “Nay.” Leave all GOP fingerprints off the catastrophe.

Pain is a marvelous teacher, and my rigging is cleared and stowed to weather this storm. Bring it on.

  23. Jodie says:

    Eoin says,

    “Pain is a marvelous teacher…”

That is so true! We learn so many valuable lessons in life by experiencing pain. Because of the pain, we often don’t make the same mistakes twice. That’s why the following from New York is so ridiculous:

“Worries about injuries at a Long Island school have led to a surprising ban.

As CBS 2’s Jennifer McLogan reported Monday, officials at Weber Middle School in Port Washington are worried that students are getting hurt during recess. Thus, they have instituted a ban on footballs, baseballs, lacrosse balls, or anything that might hurt someone on school grounds.

Tossing a football during recess has long seemed to be a rite of passage for kids in the school community.

“I think we need the soccer balls, the footballs and everything, so we can have some fun,” one student said.

But the students will have no such option anymore. They were just informed that during recess, football is out and Nerf ball is in. Hard soccer balls have been banned, along with baseballs and lacrosse balls, rough games of tag, or cartwheels unless supervised by a coach.

Students were not thrilled about the news.”
