Two months before Donald Trump Jr.’s encounter with a Russian figure, a key House subcommittee chairman received a similar overture in Moscow offering derogatory information about a U.S. policy that was upsetting Vladimir Putin.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican with a reputation as a Moscow ally in Congress, told The Hill the information he received in April 2016 came from the chief prosecutor in Moscow and painted an alternative picture of the Russian fraud case that led to the passage of anti-Russia legislation in Congress known as the Magnitsky Act.

“I had a meeting with some people, government officials, and they were saying, ‘Would you be willing to accept material on the Magnitsky case from the prosecutors in Moscow? ‘And I said, ‘Sure, I’d be willing to look at it,’” Rohrabacher recalled in an interview.
The congressman’s account provides the latest evidence that the overture to President Trump’s eldest son in June 2016 by a Russian lawyer named Natalia Veselnitskaya was part of a larger campaign by Moscow that predated the Trump Tower encounter and continued afterwards.

The focus was to sow distrust among American leaders about the Magnitsky Act, and influence far more than Trump’s inner circle. It included lobbying overtures to journalists, State Department officials and lawmakers and congressional staff from both parties, according to interviews with participants and recipients of the campaign.

Why the Post Office Gives Amazon Special Delivery
A Citigroup analysis finds each box gets a $1.46 subsidy. It’s like a gift card from Uncle Sam.

In my neighborhood, I frequently walk past “shop local” signs in the windows of struggling stores. Yet I don’t feel guilty ordering most of my family’s household goods on Amazon. In a world of fair competition, there will be winners and losers.

But when a mail truck pulls up filled to the top with Amazon boxes for my neighbors and me, I do feel some guilt. Like many close observers of the shipping business, I know a secret about the federal government’s relationship with Amazon: The U.S. Postal Service delivers the company’s boxes well below its own costs. Like an accelerant added to a fire, this subsidy is speeding up the collapse of traditional retailers in the U.S. and providing an unfair advantage for Amazon.

This arrangement is an underappreciated accident of history. The post office has long had a legal monopoly to deliver first-class mail, or nonurgent letters. The exclusivity comes with a universal-service obligation—to provide for all Americans at uniform price and quality. This communication service helps knit this vast country together, and it’s the why the Postal Service exists.

In 2001 the quantity of first-class mail in the U.S. began to decline thanks to the internet. Today it is down 40% from its peak levels, according to Postal Service data. But though there are fewer letters to put into each mailbox, the Postal Service still visits 150 million residences and businesses daily. With less traditional mail to deliver, the service has filled its spare capacity by delivering more boxes.

Other companies, such as UPS and FedEx , compete with the Postal Service to deliver packages. Lawmakers, to their credit, wanted a level playing field between the post office and its private competitors. The 2006 Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act made it illegal for the Postal Service to price parcel delivery below its cost.

But with a networked business using shared buildings and employees, calculating cost can be devilishly subjective. When our postal worker delivers 10 letters and one box to our home, how should we allocate the cost of her time, her truck, and the sorting network and systems that support her? What if the letter-to-box ratio changes?

In 2007 the Postal Service and its regulator determined that, at a minimum, 5.5% of the agency’s fixed costs must be allocated to packages and similar products. A decade later, around 25% of its revenue comes from packages, but their share of fixed costs has not kept pace. First-class mail effectively subsidizes the national network, and the packages get a free ride. An April analysis from Citigroup estimates that if costs were fairly allocated, on average parcels would cost $1.46 more to deliver. It is as if every Amazon box comes with a dollar or two stapled to the packing slip—a gift card from Uncle Sam.

According to the Associated Press, Fei Yan, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and 31-year-old Chinese citizen, allegedly earned roughly $120,000 last year from two corporate mergers.

CNBC reports that Yan’s wife worked as an associate at the international firm Linklaters, which is based in London. Linklaters was working on acquisition deals involving the two companies Yan profited from, though his wife was not charged with any crimes Wednesday. Her firm, however, told CNBC that it has suspended her and is cooperating with the investigation.

In order to cover up his alleged crimes, authorities say Yan made trades under an account with his mother’s name, according to USA Today.

But what has caught people’s attention is how authorities say Yan formulated his plan to get away with the crime: internet searches that, in retrospect, make his intent to cheat and steal obvious.

In a court complaint, prosecutors said Yan used Google to search such phrases as “how sec detect unusual trade” and “insider trading with international account.” He also allegedly read an article titled “Want to Commit Insider Trading? Here’s How Not to Do It,” according to U.S. Attorney Joon Kim.

According to the AP, Yan has appeared in Boston court once and been released on $500,000 bail. MIT said in a statement to Reuters that he was a post-doctoral assistant in the Research Laboratory of Electronics.

Trump turning things around – with the help of the courts:

President Barack Obama’s program that has protected 800,000 young undocumented immigrants from deportation is likely to be struck down soon by federal courts, predict the Trump administration and even defenders of the program.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly warned the Congressional Hispanic Caucus this week that the program to protect so-called DREAMers is in jeopardy, assuming 10 Republican-led states follow through on threats to mount legal challenges to the program by September.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, allowed undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children to stay and receive work permits, providing they don’t commit any disqualifying crimes.

The legal challenges are based on claims that Obama lacked authority to grant “amnesty” to DREAMers.

Stephen Legomsky, a senior counselor at Homeland Security under Obama, said the former president was well within his legal rights when he created DACA. But Legomsky doubted the program will survive because its fate will be decided by a conservative judge in Texas, a conservative appeals court in Louisiana and the conservative-leaning Supreme Court.

“It really hurts me to say this, but the chances of it surviving are very slim,” said Legomsky, now a professor emeritus at the Washington University School of Law.

American companies apparently not too happy about having to give jobs to Americans.

Businesses in Bar Harbor, Maine are turning to locals to make up for a shortage of foreign guest workers that normally fill summer jobs in the bustling seaside resort town.

Because the H-2B visa program has already reached its annual quota, Bar Harbor’s hotels, restaurants and shops can’t bring in any more foreign workers for the rest of the busy summer tourist season. Like hundreds of similar coastal resort towns, Bar Harbor has for many years depended on the H-2B visas for temporary workers. The program allows non-agricultural companies to bring in foreign labor if they are unable to find suitable employees domestically.

Now they are coming up with creative ways to attract local labor, reports the Bangor Daily News.

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce will hold a job fair Saturday in an effort to recruit significant numbers of workers from the region. Just about every kind of business in the town is looking for help, says chamber executive director Martha Searchfield.

“All types of businesses — retail, restaurants, the tour boats, all the trips, everything. All types of workers are needed,” she told the Daily News.

The House Appropriations Committee allocated $1.6 billion to fund the wall this week, and House Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) told Breitbart News this week that the next spending bill must fund Trump’s border wall if Congress wants to avoid a government shutdown.

“There is nothing more critical that has to be funded than funding the border wall for two reasons,” Meadows said. “One is it is a commitment that the president made to the American people and one that he intends on keeping, but the second part of that is for our national security we must secure our borders. And the American people will accept no less.”

It is worth noting that in 2015, an illegal immigrant murdered Kate Steinle in Harris’ sanctuary city of San Francisco while Harris, the former San Francisco district attorney, was California’s attorney general. The illegal immigrant murderer told authorities that he specifally came to San Francisco because he knew it was a sanctuary city. Harris, after reportedly initially tweeting about soccer, reacted to Steinle’s tragic death by pushing for comprehensive amnesty legislation.

It looks like there is PROOF of collusion with Russia – AND DEMOCRATS!

Russian Lawyer Who Met with Donald Trump Jr. Worked with Democrats for Years

The revelation that Donald Trump Jr. met for 20 minutes at Trump Tower with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in June 2016 has skyrocketed her to mainstream news media notoriety.
Although she has been painted by Democrats as a Russian government official, numerous reports and photos show she has a long record of working with U.S. political figures, including many Democrats.

For example, The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group revealed on Wednesday that California Rep. Ron Dellums was a hired lobbyist for Veselnitskaya.

According to a Washington Post story, she worked for years on a case with Glenn Simpson, the founder of Fusion GPS, a firm that produced a widely discredited dossier against Trump.

She also worked with Christopher Cooper, the founder and CEO of Potomac Square Group, which has had Democratic clients including California Government Jerry Brown, Democratic presidential nominee Howard Dean, and Joe Trippi, according to the Daily Caller.

And it was Obama’s Attorney General Loretta Lynch that granted her an extension in late 2015 to stay in the U.S. after her visa was due to expire, under “extraordinary circumstances” related to defending a case in New York, according to The Hill. She was granted an extension through January, but it’s not yet clear how she was able to be in the U.S. in June 2016, when she met with Trump Jr., and again January 2017.

Four days after her meeting with Trump Jr. on June 9, 2016, she was in Washington, D.C. for a movie screening of an anti-Magnitsky Act film at the Newseum with at least five congressional staffers and State Department officials, according to The Hill.

The next day she attended a House hearing, sitting in the front row behind Obama’s former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, who was testifying, according to photos of the hearing. McFaul has taken to Twitter to claim that Republicans placed her there, apparently next to his family members, and has denied any meetings with her.

Two black “pastors” are taking a cue from Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton and are shaking down Coca-cola. Their excuse? People like to drink sugar-filled beverages (and eat sugar filled and carb filled foods) and it is killing them. Somehow that’s Coke’s fault, they claim.

William Lamar, the senior pastor at D.C.’s historic Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, is tired of presiding over funerals for parishioners who died of heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

So on Thursday, he and another prominent African-American pastor filed suit against Coca-Cola and the American Beverage Association, claiming soda manufacturers knowingly deceived customers about the health risks of sugar-sweetened beverages — at enormous cost to their communities.

The complaint, filed in D.C. Superior Court on behalf of the pastors and the Praxis project, a public health group, alleges that Coke and the ABA ran an intentional campaign to confuse consumers about the causes of obesity.

Lamar and Delman Coates, pastor at Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in suburban Clinton, Maryland, claim soda marketing has made it harder to protect the health of their largely black, D.C.-based parishioners.

Their case is similar to another suit that was filed, and later withdrawn, last January by the same legal team in California.

‘As CO2 has risen, extreme weather has actually declined’

Also, as the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has INCREASED from nearly nothing to almost nothing, the RATE of surface warming has DECREASED.

Now I suggest this is just “coincidence”, that there is no relationship between the two, but actual observation shows, conclusively, that if there IS a relationship, it is inverse. As CO2 goes up, surface warming goes down.

As I said, I am not saying this is the case – what I am saying is there is clearly NO RELATIONSHIP of one driving the other during this time.

It is LIKELY, based on various studies, that as the Earth warms, CO2 in the atmosphere tends to rise. Again whether this is COINCIDENCE or warming the Earth drives an increase in atmospheric CO2 is not proven – but there are two explanations of why this would be the case:

    1) As the Earth warms, the oceans warm and as the oceans warm their ability to hold as much CO2 in suspension decreases. See Henry’s Law.

    2) As the Earth warms, places formerly completely overwhelmed with persistent snow and ice thaw out. As they thaw out carbon, in the form of various organic matter that had been frozen there, thaws. Some of it is broken down and also supports various life processes and the result is a net release of carbon containing compounds such as CO2 and CH3. CH3 readily breaks down into CO2 and H2O as it is oxidized.

Union pushing single payer in California is angering its allies
Earlier this month I wrote about the California Nurse’s Association (CNA) push for single payer in the state. When the bill, known as SB562, was shelved by Speaker Anthony Rendon because of a) excessive costs and b) no plan to pay for it, the union accused him of stabbing them in the back. Rendon received death threats and Democrats in the California Assembly united to demand single payer proponents stop acting like bullies. They didn’t single out the CNA but everyone knows that is who they meant. Yesterday, the Intercept reported that even other members of the coalition formed to support single payer in California are turning against CNA.

As I pointed out before, if single payer can’t pass in California where Democrats have complete control, it probably can’t pass anywhere. Even worse for Dems, if the only result of trying to pass it is a divided party, it’s a sign that there could be a serious downside to even trying.

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ claims that an ongoing FBI probe of his wife is based on partisan politics don’t square with the fact that it began under President Obama and appears to closely track Democratic opposition research revealed in the hacked emails of the Hillary Clinton campaign.

The FBI and U.S. Attorney in Vermont are investigating Jane O’Meara Sanders for her role in a failed 2010, $10 million college land deal that she orchestrated during her seven-year stint as president of Burlington College in Vermont.

According to a series of 2015 emails to and from Clinton’s campaign manager, John Podesta, leaked to and published on Wikileaks, the Clinton team wrote an extensive political opposition memo entitled “Sanders Top Hits-Thematics.” The memo details Mrs. Sanders’ role in the college’s financial failure, and parallels the ongoing FBI investigation, now before a grand jury, into the scandal. Other email correspondence shows the Clinton team believed scandals surrounding the college and Jane Sanders provided an opportunity to knock the Vermont senator’s reputation and chances to win the Democratic primary election.

“I think our first question is how are we going to defeat Sanders. … he’s not who he says he is — gun votes, DSCC money, Jane. There may be other options too but these seem to be the strongest attacks to consider. How we undermine Sanders candidacy is our threshold question,” a Clinton campaign official wrote in the fall 2015.

Even the propagandists at CNN are tired of spewing FAKE NEWS about Trump and Russia:

In an appearance Friday on New York City’s WABC radio’s “Bernie & Sid” to promote her forthcoming book “Amanda Wakes Up,” CNN “New Day” co-host Alisyn Camerota admitted even she was feeling “fatigue” from the coverage of the Trump-Russia narrative.

According to a recent Media Research Center study, that narrative made up 93 percent of her show’s air time one day earlier this week.

    Also reported here:

Ethical dilemmas – should we continue to report fake news or admit it’s fake, apologize and move on?

“There are always ethical dilemmas that journalists face. Every day we are making decisions about ‘What are we going to lead with?’ ‘What are we going to leave out?’” she continued.

“By the time I plug in, there is already a direction of the show. However, I am free at any time to say to my executive producer, which I do pretty regularly, ‘Hey, I don’t want to do this in this segment, I want to do this,’ and then it’s a debate.”
Camerota’s comments come amid a growing feud between President Trump and the press as the media continues to cover a series of revelations surrounding the federal probe into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election, including possible ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Trump has intensified his rhetoric toward the press, especially CNN, for their reporting on the Russia probe and has repeatedly claimed he is the victim of a “witch hunt.”

Social Security is fueling income inequality. Let’s end it
Social Security is a misleading scheme and it’s going insolvent anyway.
It was sold as an insurance plan, but it’s really income redistribution that takes money from the less wealthy and gives it to the more wealthy.
It’s time to phase out the program and give a real boost to the economy.

What if there was a financial scheme that took the money of younger working people and gave it to older richer people year after year?

What if that scheme relied heavily on a misconception that the money collected was being set aside for the contributor to get back at a later time?

And what if despite the fact that the law required every wage earner and employer to pay into this scheme, it still was running out of funds and spiraling toward disaster?

Actually, there’s no need for “what ifs” because that scenario is actually happening, and has been happening for more than 80 years. It’s called Social Security and it’s way past time to end this scam if we want to keep the American dream alive.

The latest evidence came this week when the Social Security trustees released their annual report to the public. The report projects that the so-called Social Security trust fund will be tapped out by 2034, and at that point Social Security beneficiaries would have to start taking 77 cents on the dollar for their promised benefits. In other words, if you’re a wage-earning worker 48 years old or younger, say goodbye forever to a good part of that paycheck withholding money.

It’s not like any of this should come as shock to most of the people who will be affected. Gallup’s polls of Americans aged 49 and younger have consistently shown that a majority of those Americans do not believe they will get Social Security benefits when they reach retirement age.

Here’s how I describe what’s going on: Theft.

We know the reasons Social Security is in trouble. First off, there are a lot more elderly people in America eligible for the benefit than ever before. And there just aren’t as many younger workers paying into the system to cover them.

We also have the problem that the Social Security trust fund is not really the kind of trust fund most people think of. Every year, the additional money left over from Social Security taxes after current beneficiaries are paid out is loaned to the U.S. Treasury in the form of special issue treasury bonds. These are not worthless IOU’s, but this set up is also far from some kind of lock box where Social Security tax money is kept safe from future rainy days.

That lock box idea was something then-presidential candidate Al Gore famously promised in 2000 and was a phrase he repeated time after time in his first debate with George W. Bush. In fact, Gore said “lock box” so many times in that debate Saturday Night Live parodied him for it mercilessly in a memorable sketch.

But the idea that our Social Security money wasn’t already in some kind of lock box came as a surprise to many voters at the time and probably is still not clear to many voters and workers. That’s where the theft and fraud concepts come in. Social Security is running out of money because it was never set up as some kind of safekeeping system for the people paying into it, even though that’s how President Franklin D. Roosevelt sold it to the American people.
