    Oscar, Oscar, Oscar

Fastidious Felix Unger of TV’s “The Odd Couple” fame often expressed his frustration with his slovenly roomie Oscar Madison by sighing, “Oscar, Oscar, Oscar,” a frustration that could just as well apply to the Academy of Motion Picture Awards for its blatant liberalism and tireless adherence to politically correctness.

I, for one, don’t give a tinker’s damn who or what wins an Oscar at the 84th Academy Awards of Merit festivities on Sunday.

Not that it matters but no one seems to know the derivation of the term “Oscar.” What does matter is that the Academy Awards show is meaningless except insofar as it is probably the most vivid example of American shallowness, exalting movie stars to the level of demigods as exemplars of the best America has to offer the world and featuring some of the most superficial, most vapid human beings on the planet applauding themselves.

Let’s face it, actors and actresses gain fame and fortune by pretending they are someone else, mostly by acting as if they were whores or roues, or confused wives or philandering husbands, or by portraying average people caught up in life’s angst.

All that pretending eventually warps minds.

Nowadays, with some exceptions, few films depicting normality are contenders for Oscars and fewer actors and actresses nominated for acting awards are depicted as normal nor are they normal in real life. That is, unless you consider normality widespread use of illegal substances, bed-hopping, multiple marriages, and out of wedlock pregnancies as normal.

Is it any wonder movie-going has fallen off drastically or that American culture is slipping down the toilet with Hollywood as a role model?

Tinseltown’s elitists tend to choose as winners of Best Actor Awards people who reflect their own prejudices and leftist political views and pick the Best Picture on the same bases.

  5. Bob Roberts says:

    What do you call this?

Some call such protests “targets of opportunity”.

Seriously, one well placed munition whenever this sort of gathering takes place would probably eventually go a long way to solving the problem of Islamic terrorism.

It would be a process – like many things in life it might get a little worse before it gets better.

In fact a good friend of mine, a martial arts expert, said it best:

“Consider all the terrorists who gather to bury any “palestinian” that gets their just desserts when trying to attack Israel. Wouldn’t it be a great policy for Israel to target every such funeral gathering? Think of how the problem would begin to solve itself geometrically! One terrorist dead, a large crowd of terrorists gather to bury him (or her). Take out that crowd and several more crowds of terrorists gather to bury them. Take out those crowds and eventually – NO MORE TERRORISTS!”

Ghoulish as it sounded when he was explaining it, there is a certain obvious truth to it. My only objection would be that there would be some collateral damage, but as far as I’m concerned, you hang around with terrorists, providing them aid and comfort, you get blowed up!

L.A., hotbed of liberals, gets the “change” they hoped (?) for and I wonder how they like Obama now? After all, Obama did promise that, under his administration, energy prices would necessarily skyrocket.

    A display of severe intolerance.

Hey, what about that “coexist” nonsense? And what do you know – the ACLU says that, as long as the perps are lesbians, and the victim is a gay man, it’s not a hate crime after all!

I wonder what he would be saying if it were three straight women who did this?

  8. Bob Roberts says:

OK that was to be it for me for tonight, out of respect (despite my flaming rant on the last open thread – read it, but remember I was being intentionally dramatic/over the top and don’t take it seriously or personally) for those who state, correctly, that I tend to post a bit too much sometimes.

However, I found a couple more things I think some of you might find worthwhile, so:

Hyperbole, sure, but it makes a great point! The setup (from POWERLINEBLOG.COM): Rasmussen published a survey a few days ago in which only 29% of Americans supported subsidies for electric cars, which means that the average American is smarter than the Obama administration. There are a number of ideas why subsidizing electric cars, like pretty much every “green” energy scheme, is a bad idea. One of the best is this: Where does all that electricity for “green” cars come from, anyway? You guessed it – as shown in this Ramirez cartoon, it comes from FOSSIL FUELS more likely than not.

If the science really was settled and the debate really was over, why are the so-called “skeptics” winning it? Easy – the other side isn’t scientists, they’re “intellectual” thugs. Gliek really put his foot in it this time: His actions may have violated California and Illinois criminal statutes prohibiting false representation, and perhaps some federal statutes pertaining to wire fraud as well. But not to worry. Holder won’t bother to go after him. He’s too busy going after Arizona and other states that want the feds to simply enforce the immigration laws that are on the books. Plus he’s too busy trying to keep the Fast & Furious cover up going.

    Believe truth, not hype I

    Believe truth, not hype II

I don’t want it to look like I’m urging you to buy those books so just check them out at Amazon then, if they look like something you want to read, go to the public library and see if they’re available there for free. Only then, if you really think you want to add it to your personal library, see if you can find a copy for sale if that’s what you want to do.

And finally, you might want to check out Americans for Prosperity if you haven’t already.

Oddly enough, it appeared their main site might have been under some sort of cyber attack when I tried to go there. This alternate link (above) was clear, though.

OK I’m going back to editing music and video but if I find something else that’s worth posting I might do one or two more.

D-OH! Forgot this one. Seriously, this should be the last…

Typical liberal moonbat! Obama “HOPE” poster creator admits to lying about image origins
Famed Los Angeles “Obey Giant” street artist Shepard Fairey destroyed and fabricated documents, he said

The Los Angeles street artist behind the iconic Obama “HOPE” poster pleaded guilty Friday to lying about the photograph he used to create the image.

It was a stunning turn for Shepard Fairey, 42, the guerilla street artist and graphic designer who is also well known for his “Obey Giant” logo.

He appeared Friday in Manhattan Federal Court to plead guilty to misdemeanor criminal contempt. He faces up to six months in jail when he is sentenced July 16. Prosecutors said in court they would be seeking jail time.

As he pleaded guilty, Fairey said he lied for more than eight months when he contended in a lawsuit that he did not use one of the AP’s photos as the basis for the Obama poster.

Fairey explained he destroyed documents and created others to perpetuate the lie.

“I was ashamed I did those things, and I knew I should have corrected my actions, but as time passed I found it more and more difficult to admit my actions,” he said to Magistrate Judge Frank Maas.

NOTE this also explains why the Catastrophic Anthropogenic Climate Change Alarmists won’t come clean – they’re too deep in their own lies and deceit to believe there’s a way out!

But truth will prevail and the first step is the hardest.

  10. Bloodless Coup says:

For the second time in recent history Obama failed to appear for an Administrative hearing.

Instead of entering a default judgment against Obama and holding him in contempt of court the Administrative Officers in Indiana found in favor of an absent defendant and threw the case out dismissing all the evidence and testimony as hearsay and inadmissible.

This is the second time or third time that an Administrative Court has shown extreme favoritism towards Obama and extreme hostility towards the plaintiffs.

I have no problem in principle with this except that it gets expensive and the locals will figure out ways around it.

You can get better results with rope.

The Brits controlled large provinces by dispatching the indigenous armies, living in the conquered areas and then on occasion, trotting out a few of the locals for hanging.

Under Queen Victoria, wherever it went in the world, the British Army was inevitably outnumbered and usually out-gunned. But with the exception of the American colonies and some blundering in Afganistan (retreating through winter mountains), the British Army – due to superior discipline – was rarely out-manuevered.

With a relatively small number of troops, The British conquered areas in India, Africa, China and Afganistan, and they controlled the local population by recruiting the natives and through strict enforcement of British law.

Anyone with the idea of apologizing to an enemy would probably have been introduced to a firing squad.

Seriously, though. An apology while your soldiers or non-combatants are being killed is an admission of defeat.

The “P”OTUS has groveled in ignominious defeat to a country of illiterate, lordosis-loving terrorists that we went in to kill (I guess).

As did his “General”. And the pentagon for that matter.

You apologize when you forgot the matches for the condemned’s last cigarette at the gallows. If you must. That’s the rule.

Liberals have once again disgraced this country for the sake of a worthless adversary.

    My questions for today:

Do you think the American people truly realize how much damage the Marxist-in-Chief and his followers have done to this country?

Do they really understand that all the damage he’s done is nothing compared to what’s going to happen in his 2nd term?

Do the people understand that political correctness is a greater threat to our freedom, liberty, language, and way of life, than terrorism is?

How many more 9/11’s will it take for the people to regain their common sense, strength, will, and the ability to think for themselves? (something they have surrendered to the MSM)

Do the people miss being truly free?

“Ghastly Outdated Party” actually fits the Democrats better as they’re resorting to tactics which have always failed and will fail again. Not necessarily at getting them elected – promising everyone everything such that you cannot possibly deliver – that’s actually a technique that works. But spending the country to death, practicing socialism – these are things that ALWAYS fail.

As for the Republicans being “against sex”?

Yeah, when it’s lao cruising the preschools and kindergartens, they’re against sex alright!

Outrage of Fireman Sam creator detained and branded racist for innocent burqa joke at airport security

The creator of the popular children’s character Fireman Sam has told how he was accused of racism after making a light-hearted remark at Gatwick airport.

Dave Jones said he experienced an ‘Orwellian nightmare’ after commenting on the ease with which a woman with her face covered by a hijab, another form of the burqa, had walked through security controls.

As he placed his scarf and other items into a tray to pass through an X-ray scanner, he quipped to an official: ‘If I was wearing this scarf over my face, I wonder what would happen.’

To his astonishment, he was met on the other side of the barrier by officials who detained him for an hour in an attempt to force him to apologise and the police were called.

Two American officers killed in Afganistan. In their offices. These were ranking officers: a Colonel and a Major. -no apology from Karzai

Only burning the white house can make up for it. -no apology will fix it.

So of course, BO and his liberals apologize.

Meanwhile, all American and international advisers have deserted Afghan government buildings. In coordination with CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood, the FBI announces it has removed hundreds of pages of training documents that may be offensive to muslims. And the graves of British troops smashed and desecrated by Libyan Islamists in protest over Koran-Comic book burning.

My guess is that we will pull out of Afganistan with our tails between our legs.

Which is what BO did in Iraq to the tune of wasted treasure and blood without a single oil contract.

So what? That’s what liberals do. And BO is clearly siding with the Muslim Brotherhood against U.S. interests and against Jews and Christians.

So with the combination of the liberal groveling reflex and BO’s adoration of all things muslim, we lose lives, war, territory, valuable resources and honor in the world.

All this with a republican-controlled house. Disgraceful.

Worse—–So far, it looks like the American public is just A-OK with all this.

(In defense of the American public however, there must be some cars driving around in circles somewhere.)

  24. Bob Roberts says:

I tracked down three stories about how the name “Oscar” came about.
A biography of Bette Davis claims that she named the Oscar after her first husband, band leader Harmon Oscar Nelson
Some claim the Academy’s Executive Secretary Margaret Herrick first saw the award in 1931 and said the statuette reminded her of her “Uncle Oscar”, a nickname for her cousin Oscar Pierce. Hollywood columnist, radio personality and Academy Award nominee Sidney Skolsky allegedly overheard this and wrote a byline stating, “Employees have affectionately dubbed their famous statuette ‘Oscar'”. As this is apparently the first instance of the name in print Mr. Skolsky and Ms. Herrick have perhaps the best case for this being the origin of the name.
A third story suggests Louis B. Mayer’s Norwegian-American executive secretary Eleanor Lilleberg saw the first statuette and said, “It looks like King Oscar II!”, then later said, “What should we do with Oscar, put him in the vault?”.

  25. GoY says:

The problem with the Republican party insisting that the party in states where they are winning, like in the south and west, emulate the parties of states where they are losing, like the northeast.

If the GOP becomes pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, anti-family, and anti-Christian, it’s a win-win for the left. The GOP loses a huge component of its base, and the left-wing social agenda is advanced no matter which party is in power.

It’s no wonder the left wants the GOP to become just a carbon copy of the Democrat Party. Nor is it a slightly greater mystery why so many in the GOP fall for this idiocy; they emulate the talking points of the media left to gain favor with the elites. Right, Joe Scarborough?
