Trump’s Border Wall Would Use 0.034% of Federal Spending

That $18 billion Trump is requesting for a border wall would equal just 0.0338 percent of the $53.128 trillion the Congressional Budget Office currently estimates the federal government will spend over that same 10-year period.

It also equals only 2.7 percent of the money the federal government will spend on the food stamp program (the “Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program”)

The $679 billion the CBO estimates the federal government will spend on food stamps during that ten years is 37.7 times as much as the $18 billion it would spend on President Trump’s proposed border wall.

At the same time, the $18 billion the required for the border wall would equal a mere 0.34 percent of the $5.232 trillion CBO estimates that the federal government will spend on Medicaid over the next ten years.

While the nation is preparing to spend a total of $6.838 trillion on national defense over the next ten years, according to CBO, the $18 billion that President Trump would like to see dedicated to defending the U.S.-Mexico border with a wall would equal only 0.26 percent of that.

Or it may have failed and crashed into the atmosphere, there to burn up. And maybe…

They’re accusing Trump of planning to attack North Korea first – exactly what China said would cause them to come to the aid of North Korea.
I haven’t heard any member of Trump’s administration suggest we have any plan to initiate military conflicts with North Korea under any scenario. But if we did, I would hit BOTH his nuclear site AND a broad section of his troops and equipment near the border with South Korea, only after discussing with China, generally, leaving out specific actions planned, the need to do so and getting them to clearly agree such attacks are necessary and overdue.

Musician hit with copyright claims… over 10 hours of white noise?

Random noise can be copyright material?

In 2015, Sebastian Tomczak, a sound technologist who teaches at the University of Adelaide, became interested in continuous sound — looping bits of noise that humans could listen to for hours on end.

Around that time, he uploaded some videos to YouTube, one of them a 10-hour track of pure white noise he created on a basic computer program.

“I uploaded it back then, and then forgot about it,” Dr Tomczak told the ABC. “It’s only had about 1,000 views.

“And then on Friday morning, two-and-a-half years later, I noticed that I had a copyright message from YouTube.”

Turns out YouTube’s algorithm had finally got around to scanning Dr Tomczak’s work, and noticed it sounded pretty similar to videos of white noise – which were apparently equally as random as it was — and there are heaps of them — uploaded to YouTube by other users.

‘Fire & Fury’ claims quotes from multiple Cabinet members

Author Michael Wolff admitted he didn’t interview any of President Trump’s Cabinet members for his anti-Trump book Fire & Fury.

Wolff made the admission on Monday in an interview on “CBS This Morning.”

Host Norah O’Donnell asked Wolf, “Did you speak to any members of the president’s Cabinet for this book?”

    Wolff responded, “I did not.”

    You did not?” O’Donnell repeated.

    “I did not,” Wolff confirmed.

She then asked Wolff if he ever interviewed Vice President Mike Pence.

“I did not,” Wolff said again.

O’Donnell also noted Trump denied having ever been interviewed by Wolff.

“The president denies he ever spoke to you for the book, at all,” O’Donnell said.

“I probably think he had no idea he was speaking to me for this book,” Wolff said. “When I would meet the president in the White House we would chat as though we were friends.”
“But that’s not an interview, to greet someone and say, ‘Hello,’” O’Donnell pointed out. “That’s not a journalistic exercise.”

Wolff struggled to explain away O’Donnell’s point and insisted he did sit down with Trump for three hours during his months in the White House even though Wolff was “sure he [Trump] didn’t think they were interviews.”

Wolff describes quotes from multiple Trump administration Cabinet members in Fire & Fury, including the National Security Advisor and Treasury Secretary.

“For (Treasury Secretary) Steve Mnuchin and (former Trump White House chief of staff) Reince Priebus, the president was an ‘idiot.’ For (former Goldman Sachs exec) Gary Cohn, he was ‘dumb as sh-t.’ For (National Security Adviser) H.R. McMaster he was a ‘dope.’ The list went on,” Wolff said.

France’s most revered actress Catherine Deneuve hit out Tuesday at a new “puritanism” sparked by sexual harassment scandals, declaring that men should be “free to hit on” women.

She was one of around 100 French women writers, performers and academics who wrote an open letter deploring the wave of “denunciations” that has followed claims that Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein raped and sexually assaulted women over decades.

They claimed that the “witch-hunt” that has followed threatens sexual freedom.

“Rape is a crime, but trying to seduce someone, even persistently or cack-handedly, is not — nor is men being gentlemanly a macho attack,” said the letter published in the daily Le Monde.

“Men have been punished summarily, forced out of their jobs when all they did was touch someone’s knee or try to steal a kiss,” said the letter, which was also signed by Catherine Millet, author of the hugely explicit 2002 bestseller “The Sexual Life of Catherine M.”.

Men had been dragged through the mud, they argued, for “talking about intimate subjects during professional dinners or for sending sexually-charged messages to women who did not return their attentions.”

The letter attacked feminist social media campaigns like #MeToo and its French equivalent #Balancetonporc (Call out your pig) for unleashing this “puritanical… wave of purification”.

    – ‘Witch-hunt’ –

It claimed that “legitimate protest against the sexual violence that women are subject to, particularly in their professional lives”, had turned into a witch-hunt.

“What began as freeing women up to speak has today turned into the opposite — we intimidate people into speaking ‘correctly’, shout down those who don’t fall into line, and those women who refused to bend” to the new realities “are regarded as complicit and traitors.”

“As women we do not recognise ourselves in this feminism, which beyond denouncing the abuse of power, takes on a hatred of men and of sexuality.”

They insisted that women were “sufficiently aware that the sexual urge is by its nature wild and aggressive. But we are also clear-eyed enough not to confuse an awkward attempt to pick someone up with a sexual attack.”

Russian historian who exposed Stalin’s crimes faces enforced psychiatric testing

Some of Russia’s leading cultural figures say Dmitriev was framed because his focus on Stalin’s crimes – he found a mass grave with up to 9,000 bodies dating from the Soviet dictator’s Great Terror in the 1930s – jars with the latter-day Kremlin narrative that Russia must not be ashamed of its past.

The narrative has taken on added importance ahead of a March presidential election which polls show incumbent Vladimir Putin, who uses his country’s World War Two victory when Stalin was in charge to bolster national pride, is on track to win.

Putin asserted last year that what he called an “excessive demonization of Stalin” was being used to undermine Russia.

Dmitriev faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the charges, which he denies.

A previous psychiatric evaluation declared him to be of sound mind and a court-sanctioned expert group found no pornographic content in nine photographs of his daughter that are at the center of the case against him, overturning the earlier findings of other experts commissioned by prosecutors.

But on Dec. 27, in an unexpected twist, the court ordered that the same nine photos be re-examined by experts for a third time. It also granted the prosecution’s request that Dmitriev undergo enforced psychiatric testing to determine whether he has “sexual deviations.”

When she drew a bird, Ms. Alneami recalls, teachers would scold her and cross off its head, saying only God can create life.

Sheikh Saleh al Fozan, a member of Saudi Arabia’s top religious body, reiterated a common argument against women driving. “If women are allowed to drive,” he said in a statement published on his website, “they will be able to go and come as they please day and night, and will easily have access to temptation, because as we know, women are weak and easily tempted.
