    Goodbye Beveridge: welfare’s end nears

In 1991 58 per cent of Britons agreed that government should spend more on benefits even if it led to higher taxes. That figure is now down to 28 per cent. More than half believe people would “stand on their own two feet” if benefits were less generous, with only 20 per cent disagreeing. In 1993 the responses were almost exactly the reverse.

According to a YouGov poll this year for Prospect magazine 74 per cent of voters agreed that welfare payment levels should be cut. The less well-off were almost as hostile as the rich. Labour voters supported reduction by a large majority.

Trevor Loudon of New Zeal speaking of Ron Paul and defense cuts:

“There’s a lot I like about Ron Paul, his Constitutional stuff is superb, but Ron Paul has come under the influence of the Left on Foreign Policy, I’m afraid, and some people who support him may not like to hear that.

He commissioned a paper in 2010 on Defense cuts, and that was commissioned with Barney Frank who has an FBI record like you wouldn’t believe, and they commissioned the Massachusetts Institute to write that defense cuts policy, and sure enough it recommended huge defense cuts.

The Massachusetts Institute is controlled by Democratic Socialists of America. It’s a Marxist group, and Ron Paul is promoting a Marxist defense policy, so look, this is not 1776 anymore.

You’re not worried about Chinese junks coming across the Pacific, and Spanish galleons coming across the Atlantic. This is a world where you need bases everywhere to monitor your enemies. It doesn’t mean you have to be policemen of the world, but you have to have eyes and ears everywhere.

This is a GeoPolitical struggle. The Russians, the Chinese and the Iranians are not separate threats. They are all allied in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is bigger and stronger than the Warsaw Pact ever was. If you don’t believe me, Google it tomorrow. You don’t even hear about it in the news media.

These countries are allies, and they are allied more than anything else by their hatred of this country. So America faces some big Geo-Political threats and you need to keep your guard up.

There’s a lot things you can cut in your government, and I know there is waste in the Military, and it should be tackled but your Military is 6% of GDP, 20% of Federal spending. There’s a lot more productive cuts to be made than tackling your Military.

Your Military has saved you before and will save you again…”

The Dollar Index fell by the most since the first quarter of 2011 after the European Central Bank pledged to protect the euro from unraveling and the Federal Reserve committed to reduce unemployment via open-ended debt buying, which may debase the U.S. currency.

What we see here is a scenario in some ways similar to that which led to the Great Depression and this series of actions will likely result in an even Greater Depression.

Well, Obama did promise that if we re-elect him it’s going to be a longer, harder road, i.e. things are going to get a lot worse.

Credit where due, it’s one of the few things he was honest about.

The bills eventually come due, folks, and when they do it gets ugly. We need to get a grip on this NOW, not later. Obama makes it clear – he and the Democrats want to continue to mortgage our future to try to consolidate their own personal power. We have to fire them – now is the time.

Unintended consequence? No, it’s definitely intended!

As of Monday, Medicare will start fining hospitals that have too many patients readmitted within 30 days of discharge due to complications. The penalties are part of a broader push under President Barack Obama’s health care law to improve quality while also trying to save taxpayers money.

About two-thirds of the hospitals serving Medicare patients, or some 2,200 facilities, will be hit with penalties averaging around $125,000 per facility this coming year, according to government estimates.

One way hospitals may start dealing with this? Refuse Medicare patients.

  24. Bob Roberts says:

    Role models?

    That’s rapper “Young Jeezy”.

    Someone already posted about this:

According to TMZ sources, the two performers (Young Jeezy and Rick Ross) exchanged heated words during the ceremony and started pushing each other before their bodyguards and BET security intervened and separated the two men.

But that was apparently not the end of the incident. According to eyewitnesses, soon afterwards a member of Ross’s entourage went to the parking lot of the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center and pulled out a gun, firing several shots.

Eyewitnesses said that Ross’ protégé Gunplay was involved in a fight with members of 50 Cent’s G-Unit camp.

Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Jeezy was arrested in 2005 for carrying a concealed firearm without a permit and in 2008 for DUI, while Ross was arrested in 2008 for gun and marijuana charges, and in 2011 for possession of marijuana.

  25. Sam Adams says:

Another way Obama is using your money to buy votes:

Under the WARN act, employers are required to give employees advance warning that they will be laid off. Under the sequestration budget cuts, defense contractors need to warn their employees that there will be job cuts in January. But of course Obama doesn’t want those warnings to go out just before the election.

So he is telling these contractors that if they don’t warn their employees, as required by law, the federal government, using your tax money, will fight their resulting legal battles.

Laws that won’t help Obama get re-elected don’t need to be obeyed.

  27. Bob Roberts says:

Another indicator the media is trying to throw the coming election with their skewed polls.

The polls show Obama walking away with it. The facts suggest othewise:

Voter registration in the Buckeye State is down by 490,000 people from four years ago. Of that reduction, 44 percent is in Cleveland and surrounding Cuyahoga County, where Democrats outnumber Republicans more than two to one.
“I think what we’re seeing is a lot of spin and hype on the part of the Obama campaign to try to make it appear that they’re going to cruise to victory in Ohio,” Cuyahoga County Republican Chairman Rob Frost said. “It’s not just Cuyahoga County. Nearly 350,000 of those voters are the decrease in the rolls in the three largest counties, Cuyahoga, Hamilton and Franklin.”
Frost points out that those three counties all contain urban centers, where the largest Democrat vote traditionally has been.
Ohio is not alone. An August study by the left-leaning think tank Third Way showed that the Democratic voter registration decline in eight key swing states outnumbered the Republican decline by a 10-to-one ratio. In Florida, Democratic registration is down 4.9 percent, in Iowa down 9.5 percent. And in New Hampshire, it’s down down 19.7 percent.

    Benghazi cover up.

    Worse than Watergate.

    Cover up time line.

    Unanswered question.

But the facts never aligned with this narrative. Stevens’ whereabouts were unknown for a long time; the estimates I have seen range between four and ten hours. No one has tried to explain why the terrorists who attacked the safe house mysteriously disappeared long enough to allow a friendly crowd to rescue the ambassador, only, apparently, to return some hours later to attack the relief force from Tripoli. And, most of all, the videos and photographs that have emerged on the internet do not support the administration’s narrative. One brief video clip purports to show the discovery of the ambassador–still alive–by a group of Libyans who might be friendly. But the photographs of what happened thereafter, which are surprisingly few in number, under the circumstances, obviously do not show Stevens in the hands of solicitous Libyans who are rushing him to the hospital. The appalling possibility, of course, is that Stevens survived the initial attack on the safe house and was later murdered by the terrorists or by the mob that we see in the photographs. Such a scenario is consistent with the hypothesis that Stevens was the target of the attack from the beginning, and that the terrorists had been leaked intelligence about the place to which he would flee from an attack on the consulate. At present, his fate during the missing hours is unknown, except for what we can infer from the pictures. An account in one Arabic-language newspaper is horrifying.

Many countries whose socialist health care systems are regularly extolled — including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. — have systems for rationing care.

  34. Sam Adams says:

So what’s the real story from Libya? Here’s a report the day after that seems to be forgotten:

    By Alastair MacDonald / Reuters

BENGHAZI, Libya — U.S. troops dispatched by helicopter across the Libyan desert to rescue Ambassador Chris Stevens and other diplomats in Benghazi ran into a fierce overnight ambush that left a further two Americans dead, Libyan officials told Reuters.
Capt. Fathi al-Obeidi, whose special operations unit was ordered by Libya’s authorities to meet an eight-man U.S. Marine force at Benghazi airport, said that after his men and the Marines had found the American survivors who had evacuated the blazing consulate, the ostensibly secret location in an isolated villa came under an intense and highly accurate mortar barrage.

“I really believe that this attack was planned,” he said, adding to suggestions by other Libyan officials that at least some of the hostility towards the Americans was the work of experienced combatants. “The accuracy with which the mortars hit us was too good for any regular revolutionaries.”

I never heard about the Marines being dispatched, or the 37 victims being evacuated. Why did the president and his minions continue to lie about this being a terrorist attack?

So much for the war on terror being over.
