“In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all – security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again.”

The hardest thing to do after you have addicted someone to something, is to make them stop wanting that which you have addicted them to. In fact, you can’t even get them to stop demanding more and more. Such is life in a welfare state.

There is a very definite price to pay for too much highly-misguided “compassion” and tolerance. Addicts simply see those qualities as a weakness to be taken advantage of. And it never ends.

3 dead in latest shooting rampage, victims prevented from defending selves by strict CA gun laws, ensuring murderer had the upper hand.

And his “assault weapon” was a shotgun, so no, none of the proposals claimed to be about “ending gun violence” would have done any good at all.

At least this POS did the right thing at the very end. And by his name, what, is he a Moslem perhaps?

Figures! Obama voter trying to steal as much as she can from company that was forced to let her go due to the economic realities of obamunism.

Is there a law that says you can’t fire someone for being stupid enough to vote for Obama? I would hope not. But it makes perfect sense – voting for Obama/Democrats is why the company has to lay off, so who better to lay off than those who caused the layoffs by voting for Obama/Democrats!

    Another example of moonbat math:

600,000 move out in decade of ‘white flight’ from London: White Britons are now in minority in the capital

Actually they’re a “majority”, the largest single group, just not more than 50%. I understand they’re claiming that because they’re under 50% for the first time that makes them a minority – I disagree with that logic.

More of this, less of that!

You know all the times that men complain about women talking too much? Apparently there’s a biological explanation for the reason why women are chattier than men. Scientists have discovered that women possess higher levels of a “language protein” in their brains, which could explain why females are so talkative.

Obama wants to collect stories on gun violence – provide stories that show how a gun successfully allowed the intended victim to come out on top!

Police officers could be charged with a crime for enforcing new federal gun control laws in Texas under a proposal by a lawmaker who acknowledges the measure likely would end up in the U.S. Supreme Court.

And another PREDICTED result of obamacare:

Universal to drop health insurance for part-time workers

Universal Orlando plans to stop offering medical insurance to part-time employees beginning next year, a move the resort says has been forced by the federal government’s health-care overhaul.

The giant theme-park resort, which generates more than $1 billion in annual revenue, began informing employees this month that it will offer health-insurance to part-timers “only until December 31, 2013.”

Yep, that’s right. Instead of ensuring more are insured, it is ensuring LESS get health care coverage!

Sam Adams says: February 20, 2013 at 4:51 pm
I don’t know that anyone has proven the differences are genetic – they could be cultural, in fact I would expect that to a great extent they are just that. I didn’t read The Bell Curve cover to cover though I have talked to some of the nation’s top people in the field about it. I concur with your statement that a good place to start on this is:

I think kids that get more parental attention and interaction when young score better on IQ tests. If blacks want to score better on IQ tests, I would suggest that they need to fix black families.

I also agree that as long as blacks as a group (NOT individuals, mind you, but on average) tend more often to be involved in crimes, drugs, violence, etc., often blaming “the system” or “whitey”, things aren’t going to get any better.

My concern is you look at the alleged birthplace of humans, the place on Earth where people have had the longest to do something with themselves and the world and what do you find?

There is a high correlation between single parenthood and kids having problems in school, getting into trouble with the law, and becoming single parents themselves. Currently 22% of white babies are born to single mothers; about 50% of Hispanic babies, and 70% Black babies. Liberal policies have made this situation much worse than it was 40 years ago by making it easier to keep your child and not have to live in momma’s basement. Hollywood has done its part in taking the stigma away from getting pregnant outside of marriage.

    What to do…what to do….

Of course, whatever you subsidize, you get more of; and whatever you punish you get less of.
The single best thing that the government could do to help minorities advance would be to stop subsidizing children having kids outside of marriage.

The next thing would be to eliminate affirmative action. Make admission to schools and job applications as color-blind as possible.

Affirmative action is like telling a guy “you appear to have weakness in your right leg…here; use this crutch.” So the guy hobbles around a bit with the crutch. Then you tell him “that crutch isn’t helping enough, let’s add a leg brace.” After a couple of weeks, that leg has lost some strength and functionality, so you give him a wheelchair. Now both legs are getting worse. After a few weeks…bed rest. Did the guy really have a bad leg in the first place? Hard to know since every measure we applied made things worse.

As to advancement of people in Africa versus Europe….

Populations located in places where seasons are not sufficiently dramatic to mandate that people plant and harvest their food, planning for the future, don’t seem to advance very much. Not many Nobel prizes from those living in tropical islands. People living in places with winters where food isn’t available for several months seem to rise to the challenge of living there. People who develop a capacity to overcome one form of challenge tend to do better in confronting other challenges.

It was KARL MARX who came up with redistbuting the wealth

Actually Karl Marx came up with the latest excuse to use for redistributing wealth. Joseph in Egypt was one of the first that came up with the idea of redistributing wealth. The government gathered up grain during the times of plenty. When the seven years of famine came, the same government charged people to receive grain from the government store. When they ran out of money, they signed over their lands. That was a pretty good technique for the government to redistribute wealth to itself.

Ever since, government have taxed people; those on the government’s “favored” list lived well, those who didn’t, not so much.

In the former Soviet Union, nobody outside of government, lived well. In North Korea today, Dear Leader doesn’t seem like he is suffering mutch. The average North Korean, however, is about 4 inches shorter than the average South Korean.

Karl Marx invented a new way to redistribute misery. And since he takes away wealth from those who try and create it, you end up with no one creating wealth.

Democide: Socialism, Tyranny, Guns and Freedom

“Democide is the elimination of a despised group by a government. It includes genocide, politicide, and other forms of state-sponsored mass murder. The hated minority headed for extermination may be defined by religious, racial, political, class, cultural or other attributes. Between 200 and 260 million people were the victims of democide in the 20th century, several times more than were killed in international wars during that period.

The first widely studied modern democide occurred in Turkey between 1915 and 1923, when the Turkish government decided to eliminate the country’s Christian minority, primarily ethnic Armenians and Greeks who had Turkish roots extending back to before the Islamic conquest. Two million Christians were murdered on forced marches into deserts without water or food.”

Deadly shooting causes multicar crash on Vegas strip

Thursday morning’s shooting is the third violent crime to hit the popular casino resort this month. Two tourists were attacked in an elevator at the hotel at Mandalay Bay on Feb. 16, and two people were critically wounded in a shooting at a Las Vegas Boulevard parking garage Feb. 6.

Police initially said occupants of the Maserati exchanged gunfire with the Range Rover, but Sheahan later said no shots were fired from the Maserati.

The Review-Journal said the incident may have begun in a nightclub dispute.

One problem with their logic – CA laws essentially ensure you can’t legally have a gun and even if you do, if you use it, you’re going to get tried for murder (or attempted) more than likely.

Law enforcement agencies have begun adopting a new policy on so-called “active shooters,” encouraging civilians to take safety into their own hands and take down gunmen who threaten them at work or school.

Maybe the ding dongs in Sacramento and Washington will wake up – Plus it’s not just the police we have to worry about – it’s the local and state DA.

A portent for the future of government health care?

As more than 30,000 dental experts descend on McCormick Place for their winter meeting this week, a new report issues a stark warning: The Chicago area’s dental safety net — the oral care it provides to underserved patients — “is in the midst of collapse.”

From 2006 to 2011, more than a quarter of the region’s low-cost dental clinics were shut, according to a 30-page white paper released Thursday by the Chicago Dental Society. The report details how the local availability of dental treatment has declined for the neediest patients, leading to what one dentist calls a “perfect storm of an oral health crisis.”

Obamacare was predicted to cause many doctors to retire – and we see that happening now. Health care is going to suffer greatly.

Yet another inevitable result of socialism.

By passing a bill last week that allows motorists to eat their roadkill, the Montana House of Representatives may be on their way to legalizing the ultimate drive-through experience.

State Rep. Steve Lavin originally introduced the bill into Montana’s House to allow “game animals, fur-bearing animals, migratory game birds and upland game birds” who have been killed by a car to be harvested for food.

Better start reinforcing that grill. I see a whole new hunting style being born from this.

The inevitable result of socialism: MISERY!

Forbes put Detroit Mayor Dave Bing on its cover in 2011 for a story with the optimistic headline: “City of Hope.” The premise was that the city had hit rock bottom and was poised for a turnaround.

“Right now, it’s all about survival,” Bing told Forbes.

Two years later, Detroit’s problems continue to multiply, sadly. It is still dealing with high levels of violent crime and unemployment. Home prices, already at historic lows, plummeted a further 35% during the past three years to a median of $40,000 as net migration out of the city continued.

The latest blow was Tuesday’s announcement that the city is on the verge of being taken over by the state. Detroit is in a financial emergency and cannot pay its bills. The city has been issuing debt to fund day-to-day operations. The continuing problems propelled Detroit to the top spot in our 2013 ranking of America’s Most Miserable Cities.

You made one (of likely several) points regarding why some people in some places do better than others elsewhere.

I agree that having to overcome adversity is a good thing – and affirmative action takes that away from you.

Also, though, I think you leave out the cultural aspect. Take, for instance, people who migrated, one way or the other, from Africa elsewhere. If they adopted the culture of their new land they tended to do better. If they kept their African culture & associated behaviors, not so much.

  21. DJ says:

    @ Bob Roberts,

You stated on another thread you didn’t read The Bell Curve from cover to cover. I strongly implore you to do so. One of its main thesis’ is IQ is an inherited genetic trait and very limited in its malleability. Environment/nurture (or lack of nurture) can only raise or lower IQ by around 5%. Once one grasps the content of the text, then one can clearly understand the disparities of outcomes between both groups and individuals. You can even leave race out of it and the main thesis still stands. I think you’ll find chapter 21 “The Way We Are Headed” both frightening and prescient. Remember the book was written 20 years ago; its predictions are taking shape in the real world, big time.
