Restaurants Cave to Michelle Obama’s Dictates

The fat cakes-devouring Michelle Obama (aka the Moose With the Caboose) continues her campaign to strong-arm restaurants into giving us less for our money:

Encouraged by Michelle Obama’s campaign to reduce childhood obesity, the company that owns the Olive Garden, Red Lobster and four other popular restaurant chains is pledging to cut the calories and sodium in its meals and overhaul its kids’ fare.

That was written by the liberal media. Let me translate into American:

Intimidated by the unelected Food Czar Michelle Obama’s implied threats of ever more crippling regulations, spineless corporate pushovers caved, agreeing to give customers smaller portions and less tasty food.

In other attempts to placate the Bitter Half and the grotesquely bloated, hyper-intrusive regime she represents,

McDonald’s, Burger King, Chili’s, IHOP, Friendly’s and more than a dozen other large and small chains have said they will begin replacing the French fries in children’s meals with fruit and removing enticing pictures of less healthy items from their menus.

It’s only a matter of time before French fries are banned, to be followed by cheeseburgers, hot dogs, apple pie, and anything else that reminds our totalitarian moonbat overlords of the country they are methodically destroying.

Imagine the grief the Founding Fathers would feel if they knew that in only 200 years, we would degenerate to the point of allowing a meddling bully on the record as hating this country to dictate what our children eat.

Moochelle has a hang up about food probably because of her dimensions. She has recently lost some weight but as this photo from thursday shows she dwarfs Barack. I fear for him. He could get squished.

  2. Jodie says:

Thanks to the Obamas, it’s easier for a kid to get an abortion than a french fry.

  3. Lyn says:

Mrs. Obama is doing this because she thinks American parents are too stupid to make good choices for their kids. She is right about those American parents that voted her husband into office. However, the rest of us should be free to eat what we can afford and want.

I’m sorry to see companies being intimidated and pushed around like this. Wonder what she’ll decide is best for us next.

I don’t blame the restaurant owners. Look what O did to Boeing and Gibson Guitar.

Step 3. Stop at trash can, distract child with toy or whatever, toss apple slices (the kid’s just gonna spit them out anyway)in bin, replace with small fries.

Step 4. Sit down, whisper, “Yessss!”; enjoy your meal.

Ok, so Darden got an Obamcare waiver but I am sure that is TOTALLY unrelated to their support of this bullshit, right?

  18. Screwy Puppy says:

Sorry, but this is such a non-story.

Many first ladies take up a cause as a hobby while their husband is POTUS. Hers is improving the American diet.

This ( these ) company has decided to support a more healthy meal. The market will decide if they like this. Boycott, if you don’t like it.

Again, the company made the decision. It’s not like the government did this.

When the government does something like banning toys in “happy meals,” banning cooking with salt, outlawing trans-fats, or banning table salt, let me know.

  19. angryK9 says:

Yeh. I kind of agree with Screwy Puppy. President ass clown and the first wookie will leave office. The market place will prevail. Consumers will get what they want.

Still, I got a laugh over the unretouched photo of Michelle.

  20. Bob Roberts says:

It’s more than one front that they fight this on – here in Cali, at least… for they first made the french fries so bland and actually bad tasting (by regulations from government) that I went from rarely eating them to never.

  21. Sexy Snake-Eyes says:

Screw Puppy, I’m still P.O.’d about the “phosphate ban” that now renders my dish washing machine ‘useless’ unless I add my own bleach/TSP/Citric acid mixture [which means, I have to be a f*cking CHEMIST now just to get my dishes clean].

Salt bans and all of the ‘other’ stupid bans are just retarded. I can make ‘booze in my bathtub’…yaknow? ‘Bans’ don’t work.

Also, sodium isn’t ‘bad for you’ as long as you intake enough water.

Nor is ‘fat’ that naturally occurs in eggs, marbled meats and cheeses ‘bad’ for you. Quite the contrary. Did you know that the naturally occurring ‘lecithin’ in egg yolks actually helps dissolve the ‘bad cholesterol’ and helps get rid of belly fat?

You know why America is FATTER THAN EVER?

Because everyone went ‘low fat’ and ‘high carb’ and bingo…[not to mention all those gawd-awful ‘fake’ sweeteners]!

STUPID. Talk about ‘dumbing’ down people! We need ‘fat’ for our brains to function for crying out loud. Now Americans are a bunch of lard-@sses with nary a brain cell or two to rub together.

Nobody needs to make ‘choices’ for us. If people need to be more informed about calories, then label things just like they did with other foods. I certainly always pay attention to labels and ingredients. Corn syrup is disgusting but until people stop buying the cheap crap made with corn syrup, that crap will remain in our food chain.

Knowledge is power. Dictating is supremacy best left to the Commies and other control-freaks.

    Thanks for listening…

“It’s only a matter of time before French fries are banned, to be followed by cheeseburgers, hot dogs, apple pie, and anything else that reminds our totalitarian moonbat overlords of the country they are methodically destroying.”

With the passage of Obamacare the government has been given the power to outlaw or heavily regulate, perhaps out of existence, just about any product or activity it deems “unhealthy” or “risky” because the government will be able to justify it by saying that the products or activities result in increased health care costs which the government will eventually be solely responsible for paying under Obamacare. The democrats are quite aware of that.

  23. Screwy Puppy says:

This story centers around a company deciding to serve a healthier fare. I don’t know why people are so upset about this. They are making their product stand apart from others. So what if Michelle praises it as a good move?

In the end the market will have the last word.

However, the city of Chicago is making its employees live a healthier lifestyle. If they don’t then they have to give back part of their paycheck.

This is what I’m talking about as important.

“Do as we say or pay.”

We cannot frame everything the Obama’s do as wrong no matter how wrong their philosophy is. They cannot be wrong every time. They will get something right once in a while.

    Let’s not be petty.

  24. Sexy Snake-Eyes says:

    You are exactly right.

‘They’ have been working very hard at this for years:
    Grinding down America

    “Death Panels”?

What a convenient way to kill a LOT of people:

    Eyewitness to the Ayers Revolution

You might not want to be a registered “Republican” under the 0bamacare system. Just sayin’…

  25. Sexy Snake-Eyes says:

    Screw Puppy,

“Childhood obesity” is everyone else’s fault apparently. Supposedly, folks are always eating ‘out’ and only choosing ‘fatty snax’ for their main meals.

C’mon. The real truth is that people buy pre-packaged convenience foods filled with crap/fat/filler/corn syrup and a lovely assortment of chemicals that most people can’t even pronounce and restaurants [even fast food ones] probably make healthier meals than some of the lazy slugs on welfare ballooning out nicely with their EBT cards who not only don’t want to work but don’t want to actually COOK.

And, Mark’s point was SPOT on. This is about intimidation tactics to etch away at our freedom of choice and our freedom to LIVE how we want to. The ‘government’ has already effed up big time with their teams of mad scientists telling us ‘fat’ is bad and ‘carbs’ are ‘good’. Hmm. PETA freaks anyone?

My mention of the ‘phosphate’ ban is because even though only a couple of states were required to ban phosphates, ALL [and I mean ALL] of the companies making soaps stopped using phosphates altogether rather than having to make ‘separate’ soaps for ‘separate’ states. This is how it starts…like a domino effect and companies end up complying because it’s just not cost effective.

Just watch these idiot lefties jump the shark as usual.

Is this supposed to be “Affirmative Action” for the calorie challenged?

    Gimme a break. lol

  26. Screwy Puppy says:

    @Sexy Snake-Eyes

I cannot tell if we are in agreement or disagreement. However I’m pretty sure we agree that the government should not tell us what we can buy as far as products go.

Again, my contention with this article is the company decided to do this. So what?

A few months ago we had the government recommend a change in advertising of food targeting children, but it wasn’t law. There was a threat of making it a law or regulation if companies did not comply. That is bad. And so this story seems related.

This is nothing. The company linking its new menu to Michelle is probably more advertising gimmick than government influence. This drips of PR, not government intervention. At least this is the way I see it.

Instead of framing this story as political, frame it as marketing and you get a better sense of what it is. This “healthier menu” trend has been going on for a while. Getting the first lady to praise it is amazing PR.

Don’t worry. I believe in market forces. Also, the raw ingredients are always available so you could make what you want yourself.

Remember the low-carb craze? Remember there was a low-carb rum? HAHAHAHAHA! That’s my requirement for rum : low-carbs. Stupid.

A couple years from now we will be laughing at this company fawning for Michelle’s approval of their menu. We will look at them and think of how stupid they were. Some of us are already thinking that.

  27. Sexy Snake-Eyes says:

I’m not sure if we are in agreement or not either, Screwy puppy? LOL!

Actually, the ‘low’ carb ‘craze’ isn’t what caused American Obesity…it was the ‘high carb’ and ‘low fat’ crap that made Americans into cattle.

You so “So what?” to small things because you perceive them as ‘small’, but, when those ‘small’ things start adding up into a ginormous elephant in the room trying to take away your individuality and your ability to ‘think’ for yourself…yeah, Houston, we have a mother effin’ problem.

Marketing? Please. Commies are great at ‘stealth marketing’…especially if they don’t want to upset the collective minds of the ‘sheeple’ they are herding into their ultimate control.

Maybe the EBT cards will start ‘outlawing’ certain foods, but, they don’t…the do the exact opposite which is why I call bullshit on all of this government control crap or ‘suggested’ control crap.

Eff ’em all. I’m thin and I eat a lot of eggs and meat and I have low blood-pressure and low cholesterol. HA!

  28. Screwy Puppy says:

    @Sexy Snake-Eyes

I agree that small things add up. I liked your rant on phosphates and how the policy of one state affects other states. I remember when the ban first went into effect the stories of people going out of state to buy soap. Because of this I don’t know why the companies are going to discontinue phosphate soap. The people are going out of their way to buy it.

I am probably just going to be against the grain on this story. I don’t see this as one of those small things. I see it as a trend and marketing, and those things fade away. I hope I am right on this because that would be good news for us all.

Has anyone put out any videos yet mocking a government dictated childrens menu? I envision kids 12 and under being forced to have their food served in a bottle. That would be hilarious, a junior-high cafeteria with all the kids sucking on bottles.

  29. Sexy Snake-Eyes says:

Actually, I think you are fexxin’ cool for going against the grain, Screw Puppy. I respect that. I hate, hate, hate, HATE ‘group-think’.

    I like having intelligent debates!

I truly hope you’re right and that this is just a stupid ‘phase’ of one company trying to garner some ‘notoriety’ via the first ‘lady’ *cough-cough*.

Your idea about a video of children force-fed by feeding tubes is hilarious! OMG! BWAHAHAHAHA

    High five, Screw Puppy!

Banned for us, they’ll be having their personal chefs whip that stuff up for them regularly.

I would like to know whether anyone on this page will admit that they believe this statement is true(in the literal sense).

    @Sexy Snake-Eyes

My God you are such an ego stroker. *blush*

However, at iOwnTheWorld I was definitely not liked on my opinion. In fact, my original post had a typo and I followed it with a typo correction. My typo correction has only negative votes as opposed to the original post, 2+ & 8-.

Correcting yourself is bad. Now that’s funny!

  33. chuck in st paul says:

    Yes and No.

While I agree that the market will decide most issues quite handily, government interferrence has taken away ‘the other choice’ too many times. I give you low-flow bathroom devices for example and toilets that don’t flush well.

In the food arena there are all the regulations requiring enough messages on food to leave little room for the name of the item and it’s price. Menus will come with a seventy-two page appendix with the nutrition information being required everywhere.

Once they get a hook in they only eat away more and more of what was once ‘normal’.

If Happy Meals are responsible for fat kids then we’d better ban forks and knives as well because they make it easier to eat.
