Seattle Imposes Hiring Preferences for Criminals

As Obama has made explicit, the modern Democrat Party exists to punish its enemies and reward its friends. Among its friends are criminals, who share liberals’ smash-and-grab, if-it-feels-good-do-it moral creed. Consequently, in a city run by moonbats,

The Seattle City Council [Monday] unanimously approved a bill that would prohibit employers from asking about an applicant’s criminal history until after an initial screening. Employers could reject an applicant because of a criminal record, but only if there is a legitimate business reason to do so.

The measure was strongly opposed by some business groups, including the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, which said they didn’t want the city second-guessing their hiring decisions. They also opposed a provision that will allow the city Office of Human Rights to investigate complaints by job applicants who believe they were turned down solely because of their criminal history.

This means that criminals will have de facto hiring priority, since not hiring them will cripple businesses with lawsuits. But the businesses will also be sued if the crooks bureaurats force them to hire continue to indulge in their criminal proclivities at the expense of customers.

Either way, wealth producers take it in the neck, as do law-abiding normal people. That’s what they get for being the Democrats’ enemies.

    If the city is going to force business owners to employ criminals then the city should be held legally and financially responsible for any theft, violence, or other actions of these criminals.

    Why wouldn’t you want to hire a person with a criminal background?
    Perhaps equally importantly, why do they have a criminal record in the first place?
    If the person was convicted of a financial crime, I don’t want them handling money. Can you imagine customers giving payments to someone convicted of stealing or identity theft?
    Do I want to employ someone for child care who has a history of violence or molesting little kids?
    How about a person with a problem with drugs or drunk driving being hired to drive around and deliver things for me?

    Now don’t get me wrong…convicted criminals need a chance after doing their time. I worked along a few guys in a metal finishing business who had records, and they worked out fine. But they weren’t put in a position to handle money. I know a person convicted of a financial crime that now has a great career as a salesman.

    But an employer not knowing about a person’s background before deciding if he is suitable for the kind of job that is available? Insanity.
