Unemployment Compensation for the Employed

Say what you will about the socialists running the District of Columbia, they have created for themselves a great unemployment plan. By collecting unemployment while they are still working, they are able to pay themselves twice, which no doubt stimulates the economy in accordance with Keynesian ideology:

District officials have estimated that the city had paid as much as $800,000 in jobless benefits to working city employees since 2009. … The improper payments ranged from a few hundred dollars to more than $20,000 per employee, authorities said.

Obama likes the idea of extending unemployment compensation to the employed so much, he is trying it out nationwide:

The Obama administration is looking for states that will experiment with unemployment insurance programs by letting people test a job while still receiving benefits. …

Supporters of the programs say it helps workers retain or learn new skills and add new job references to their resumes. The plan passed with support from leading [RINOs], including House Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

It also is designed to answer critics of unemployment benefits who say the aid discourages some people from aggressively seeking work.

How could unemployment benefits discourage people from looking for work if they can keep collecting them even after they have found a job? Don’t ask where the money will come from; if the government doesn’t care, why should you?
