Vultures Quickly Gather to Exploit Tragedy in Connecticut

The authoritarian leftists running the “mainstream” media couldn’t even wait for the bodies to cool:

MSNBC’s Alex Wagner said the elementary school shooting will hopefully offer “some political capital” to reform gun laws.

When liberals say “reform gun laws,” they mean “gut or repeal the Second Amendment.”

Throughout the show, Wagner and her panel discussed gun violence and gun control. MSNBC contributor and Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart added shortly after Wagner’s comments that if Friday’s violence “doesn’t sear the consciousness of political leaders from the president on down, I don’t know what will.”

NBC’s David Gregory proclaims that the tragedy will “heighten everyone’s awareness” of liberals’ anti-gun objectives. That it will — the media will see to it.

USA Today’s Washington bureau chief Susan Page suggests that this could be “the tipping point.” The tipping point toward what? A bastion of liberal elitism spells it out:

“27 SHOT dead by GUN at CT elementary school, 14 r kids, & if I say our lawmakers & gun laws are killing us I’ll be told now ain’t the time,” Philip Gourevitch, the New Yorker staff writer wrote.

Still not clear? Let’s try a publication that is even more ham-fistedly statist:

“If any other plague was leaving piles of dead bodies all over the country, including children, our country would figure it out,” said New York Times media columnist David Carr.

From the liberal point of view, that plague won’t be cured until no firearms remain in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Then they will go after sharp implements.

There is no more dangerous weapon in the hands of a demagogue than a dead child in a puddle of blood. As authoritarians ramp up the rhetoric, keep in mind that mass-murdering maniacs are likely to target schools precisely because they are gun-free zones, where no one can stop them until the police arrive.

My prayers are with the victims and their families.

How terrible that Liberals will exploit this tragedy.

  2. Nathaniel M says:

My heart just sank. I remember going to school in CT and living there for a time. Gonna be hard to talk to my students today or Monday…

  3. jim says:

I am ashamed of both sides of the gun control debate. Those children aren’t even cold yet, their parents haven’t even mourned yet and they have already become tools, symbols of an agenda. Go slink back into your holes all of you, I’ve had a bellyful

  4. Jester says:

I fully expect to see the Second Amendment completely removed from the Constitution within my lifetime.

  5. StanInTexas says:

Jim, BOTH SIDES? And what pro-gun control people have jumped up to exploit this tragedy so soon?

  6. artfldgr says:

here is the argument that just was won by me with a bunch of libs..

that these people wish to change a constitutional right, for the purpose of saving lives.

yes? and they said yes! lives are sacred.

ok… the worst year for gun violence racked up 17,000 deaths… lets double it to 34,000. this should cover the suicides, accidental deaths, and crime…

now… i said…lets take that number and pretend that the deaths related to guns had been fixed at this double the worst number value, and lets say this horrible situation goes on for 40 years.

    i said thats about 1.3 million people…

i said to them… we all know that we cant erase them, and save those 1.3 million. but lets imagine we can and that taking away the constitutional right will save those lives.

    would you?

    they all said yes…

    i said thats interesting…

because thats less than 3% of the total number of humans murdered before birth over the same 40 years.

that is, the inflated ridiculous number in which 1.3 million people is completely dwarfed by the 50-60 million humans aborted…

that changing the abortion rate by 6% over that period, would have saved more people than all the guns deaths combined and doubled.

so… which constitutional point would you get rid of first to show you really care about life and thats the reason for it?

  7. artfldgr says:

by the way, a colleagues daughter works there…
so i pray she is ok… and sad for those who arent…

  8. StanInTexas says:

Great argument, Art. I used a similar argument a few years back.

I took a few consecutive years and showed the dozens of kids killed in school shootings, including suicides and shootings that happened on school grounds. I then showed statistics that showed that more school children died during that same period as a direct result of playing high school football.

And surprisingly, no one called for banning high-school football.

  9. StanInTexas says:

Good thoughts and prayers to your colleague and their daughter, Art!

  10. Sinister66 says:

    jim says:

    I hear ya there.

  11. jim says:

Oh I don’t know maybe like your buddy artful up there who felt this would be the pre-eminent moment to jump on the abortion soapbox – geez people take a day off maybe

  12. Joe says:

This is so sad, right before Christmas. Bless these people and their families.

I remember when I was in high school. I had a couple friends who lived about a mile from the school. They would walk the railroad tracks as a shortcut. Some days they would bring their 22’s to school and put them in their lockers, so they could use them to hunt rabbits on the way home. I remember a day when a teacher was admiring one of the guns. Nobody ever got in trouble, nobody shot up the school. It’s not guns that are the problem, it’s crazy people, and you’ll never get rid of them.

  13. Ummah Gummah says:

I was not aware that this shooter was in possession of a legally obtained firearm.

  14. StanInTexas says:

Jim, Art posted that AFTER you made your idiotic statement. You owe those of us that are pro-gun an apology!

  15. Son of Taz says:

OK, let all of the law-abiding gun owners turn in their guns and watch them be destroyed like they did in Australia.

    Another mass shooting will occur.

What will the leftists blame when it happens again?

Carry your firearms and toss the bleeding hearts out. But first, let’s pray and grieve for the young that died today at the hands of pure evil.

  16. Sinister66 says:

Its being reported he also killed:
    His roommate in NJ
    His Father

And his brother is being held as an accomplice.

  17. James McEnanly says:

This is one of the difference between Conservatives and Liberals. When something like this , Conservatives offer prayers, Liberals propose stricter gun laws.

  18. Ummah Gummah says:

Just today, the citizens of Bonn, Germany avoided a far greater tragedy, had a bomb with the explosive potential of the one planted by moslem terrorists in the trains in Madrid in 2004, gone off as its islamic makers had intended.

Luckily, the bomb makers lacked in competence, what they had in intent.

No firearms of any kind were involved.

No firearms were involved on 9/11 either. What if the pilots had been armed that day?

  19. Lightwave says:

And there it is from Obamee:

“And we’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.”

Spoken like a true tyrant, paving the way to hell with gun control laws, none of which would have done a damnable thing to stop this tragedy from happening.

Gun control laws only assure more will be killed with guns. Period.

  20. Comrade J says:

The Commie Clown should then take meaningful actions and ban knifes.

  29. AC says:

Why else would he be supporting gun control?

  30. StanInTexas says:

AC, I think Sinister is either taking too much medication… or not enough.

You think I support gun control then you’ve eaten too many paint chips as a kid.
I would ask you to back up that statement but we both know you cant.

  34. Sinister66 says:

This whole story is just a mess. Now:

    shooter is Adam Lanza, 20.
shooter’s 24-year-old brother Ryan, of Hoboken, N.J., is being questioned.
    20 children, six adults killed
    plus the shooter self inflicted
one additional individual at a separate location

  35. Bob Roberts says:

Left rushing to blame the right for school shooting.

So what’s changed? It is not the number of guns that’s changed. If you people on the left are so eager to control things, we actually need some values control. We actually need some social guardrails. I don’t even know if that would eliminate stuff like this. We don’t know why yet, purpose, reason. The psychological community is eagerly trying to understand this, too.

Here’s Piers Morgan, British import, CNN. He just tweeted: “Nothing happened after Aurora. Now it must.” We don’t even know what happened yet. We know the end result of what happened, but we don’t know anything about this yet, and the left is already mobilized. As they always will and always do, they try to politicize the event for their advantage, mobilize down their anti-gun highway.

Please provide the quotes from the people demanding that all teachers be armed.

In china, they don’t have access to firearms, and yet they seem to be able to murder the innocent as well!

  44. gordo says:

And of course Connecticut has some of the strictest gun ownership laws in the country. Fat lot of good it does them, other than disarming law abiding citizens. If you don’t think this has been Obama’s plan all along, you have been hiding under a rock. Fast and Furious, “under the radar”, executive privilege to hide wrongdoing. It’s all right there for anyone with an open mind and half an ounce of sense.

  45. AC says:

So why was my statement idiotic. The gun confiscation class is screaming for new laws and the gunscaries are screaming we should arm all the teachers. Teachers? Have you met any teachers?

A teacher who can’t be trusted to be armed has no place in the school in the first place.

Teachers don’t need guns to hurt children – unionized teachers molest children with alarming frequency, in large part due to the union culture of protectionism.

RE: Joe on December 14, 2012 at 1:43 pm:

Yeah, Joe – I remember that, too. I remember kids that had gun racks in the back windows of their pickup trucks, too – and I grew up here on the PA / DE border, which ain’t exactly hicksville. We have more fox hounds than coon hounds here in “Hunt Country”……or “Weyeth Country” for you artsy types out there.

A lot of us used to carry pocket knives when we went to school in the not-so-distant past.

And nobody ever had a problem.

What’s even MORE ironic is that fistfights were a regular occurence then, too – being a kid meant you’d get in fights and have to deal with bullies. People talk about “school violence” – h#ll, that used to be a part of growing up.

I spent 12 years in the Catholic school system. Try walking to school wearing a tie or a blazer while all the kids going to the “pubic school” are going the other way dressed like bums and making fun of you.

I learned a lot about dealing with Liberals from that.

  47. Paladin says:

Whenever a mass shooting happens there are those who immediately call for stricter gun control laws.

But mass shootings always seem to happen in areas where it’s illegal to have a firearm, and Connecticut already has some strict gun control laws. If I read the law correctly, it was illegal for the shooter to have those guns at the school, to have transported them to the school, to even be in possession of them, and to have them in a loaded condition outside of his house.

The problem is that laws are not much of a detriment to those who have a mind to break them. Areas with stricter gun control have a higher rate of gun violence, being that the offender doesn’t have to worry about serious resistance.

  48. TonyD95B says:

RE: Paladin on December 14, 2012 at 5:12 pm:

Yes, funny how the places with the strictest gun control have the worst violence……like Washington, DC, New Mogadishu (aka Detroit), Chicago, New York, Filthadelphia…..Mexico………….

    ………..Germany, Russia, China, Cambodia, Cuba……..

  49. Fat Stanley says:

Sticking up for reason.’s headline “Today is a day for Tears, not Politics.”

Politicians of ANY stripe will react opportunistically to the tragedy of the day. Today it’s Cuomo piling on about gun control. Tomorrow it’ll be DeMint or Saxby Chambliss decrying some other perceived erosion of Christian morality.

Oh, and liberals pray too. Be sad. Pray for the families. But stop making stupid false equivalents to Cambodia, snarky comments that teachers are somehow ill-suited to carry, or suggesting that Piers Morgan can pass for an intelligent representation of a human being.

BTW CBS news just named the shooter and described the SigSaur and Glock pistols reportedly used as legally obtained.

To steal a gun and commit a crime with it
To aid someone in the commission of a crime with a gun
    To plan to murder someone
To threaten to murder someone with a gun
To attempt to murder someone with a gun
To conceal a gun or carry with out a permit
To transport a loaded gun in some places

So why didn’t all these laws stop this crime commmies?

    Take you time… I’ll wait!

  61. facebkwallflower says:

    @Michelle It’s A CRIME. Very nicely written!

Gun Control Laws aid and abet mass murders. Why do parents send their children to spend the day in Gun Free zones without protection from criminal gun owners? Isn’t that neglect? Parents need to do some serious thinking about this. If at all possible protect your children and do not take them into gun free zones. Why would you do that? Why would you take your child to, say, a gun-free zone college football stadium with 50,000 other people and rely on the minimal security/police to manage the crowd and protect you and your child? Time to rethink. Gun laws a Killer enablers.

  62. facebkwallflower says:

Hussein says, “We are going to have to come together to take meaningful action to prevent tragedies like this, regardless of politics.” Obama stated.

This statement shows how inept and unqualified this guy is to be president as it is known his stand on guns and is referring to more gun control. Gun control creates a receptive environment for these tragedies, tightening gun control laws will make future tragedies worse and heighten. Easing gun control and restrictions will not limit these tragedies BUT will greatly REDUCE the body bag count and SAVE LIVES.

Interestingly enough, every single mass shooter in the past decade has had a publicly reported involvement w/the mental health profession.
When will we begin to realize that the American Medical Establishment’s fetish for letting the mentally ill walk freely in society is a danger to us all?

  65. Jodie says:

Exactly! Instead of looking into gun control, we need to look into the mental health profession. We have had so many recent examples of young males shooting up large groups of people. In almost every case, there has been a history of mental health – often involving mind altering prescription drugs.

I want to know if there is hypnotism going on or any other kind of mind control. The guns are the last things I’m concerned about right now.

But obviously not legally obtained by the shooter.

Personally, I’m really upset that these adults couldn’t keep these kids safe. Obviously they had no means to protect these kids from a gunman other than trying to run and hide.

In Utah, concealed carry permit holders can carry in all public schools and the public universities. Many folks who teach concealed carry classes give school teachers a discount or offer classes for free.

Oddly enough no reports of mass shootings.

Try and come for the CONSTITUTIONALLY GUARANTEED weapons of US Citizens and you’ll see what REAL carnage looks like.

  68. Clingtomyguns says:

“We are going to have to come together to take meaningful action to prevent tragedies like this, regardless of politics.” Obama stated.

We know he won’t take any meaningful action, “regardless of politics” because the only “meaningful” action in response would be to abolish “gun-free zones” and require a number of reponsible adults who are concealed carry trained to be armed and ready. Only then will meaningful action be taken. Obama’s response will never be “regardless of politics” since everything he does is political, and the only respons he will have is to attack the 2nd amendent, which he hates.

Larry Pratt, the Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, believes correctly points out that gun control advocates can claim some responsibility for the Friday shootings.

“I would say there’s blood on their hands becauser they were the ones that supported the gun free zones that are the law in almost every state of our country around schools. They’re the ones with their support of gun free zones,” he said.

“In the last 20 years, every single mass murder of five people or more has taken place in a gun free zone. Now, at some point we’ve got to ask is there a better way,” Pratt told 9News Now.

“Almost never does a mass murder occur in our country outside of a gun free zone. Murderers seem to have it figured out. They might be evil but they’re not flat stupid, so if they want to have, for whatever perverse reason, have a large body count, go to a school, or go to an Oregon mall where the guy didn’t killl but two people, but that’s because his gun jammed, not because he wasn’t trying,” he said.

“The most dangerous places in America are “gun-free zones,” including schools. Crazed killers have plenty of time to finish their carnage before anyone will show up who can actually stop them.”

    Read more:

Meanwhile, in sane venues when people have access to guns, the carnage can be stopped, and lives saved:

Edinboro, Pennsylvania. A 14-year-old middle school student opened fire at a school graduation dance, being held at a local restaurant. The shooter killed one teacher and wounded two students and another teacher. The armed teenager was apprehended by the restaurant owner, who grabbed his own shotgun from his office and went after the shooter. Staring into the owner’s shotgun, the teen dropped his gun and surrendered.

Pearl, Mississippi. A 16-year-old sophomore entered Pearl High with a hunting rifle under his overcoat. He opened fire, killing two students and wounding seven. The assistant principal, Joel Myrick, ran to his truck and retrieved the .45 automatic he kept there. Running back, he spotted the shooter in the parking lot. Ordering the teen to stop, the vice principal put his gun to the shooter’s neck and held him until police arrived.

Grundy, Virginia. At Appalachian Law School, a disgruntled student on the verge of his second suspension entered a school building and shot and killed the dean and a professor. He then shot four students, killing one. Hearing the shots fired, two students, Michael Gross and Tracy Bridges, ran to their cars to retrieve their guns.

With guns aimed at the shooter, Bridges ordered him to drop his weapon. When the shooter turned and saw Bridges’ gun, he laid down his weapon and put his hands in the air. (My pro-Second Amendment documentary, “Michael and Me,” goes into detail about this incident, as well as others.)

What do felons think about an armed citizenry? A survey of convicted felons by the National Institute of Justice found 74 percent of the felons agreed that, “One reason burglars avoid houses when people are home is that they fear being shot during the crime.” The survey also asked these felons whether they had abandoned at least one crime because they feared the intended victim might be armed. Thirty-nine percent said they abandoned at least one crime; 8 percent had abandoned such a crime “many” times; 34 percent admitted being “scared off, shot at, wounded, or captured by an armed victim”; and nearly 70 percent knew a “colleague” who had abandoned a crime, been scared off, been shot at, wounded or captured by a victim packing heat.

The foregoing is an excellent piece by Larry Elder, who by the way is black and conservative. Obama’s skin color doesn’t inhibit his ability to do something “meaningful,” his rotten core philosophy does.

  69. Smokey says:

Exactly right. If teachers and staff had been packing, a lot of those kids would be alive today.

  70. Sam Adams says:

Most people regret this senseless loss of innocent life. Many wish to take steps to prevent the loss of innocent life in the future.

Planned Parenthood runs about 322 facilities nationwide. Assuming that half of the abortions performed in the US this year were conducted by Planned Parenthood, between five and ten innocent unborn children were killed each and every calender day in each Planned Parenthood Clinic.

On average, more blood is spilled at each clinic each week than was lost in Connecticut. None of those lost lives makes it to the national news.

  71. Highway Hospital Student says:

The gun control conversation is useless without these obvious facts:

    (1) Over 60 million gun owners, about a quarter of whom own concealed-carry licenses, did not on friday shoot anyone.

    (2) To keep and bear arms is a constitution right intended for individual defense in the preservation of freedom.

    (3) Guns are a deterrent and necessary for defense

    (4) Liberals cannot possibly take all guns

    (5) Criminals and insane people have guns

    (6) Mass murders happen in gun-free areas

    (7) Liberals are wrong about everything else; why would anything they advocate about gun control be correct?

Therefore, with respect to #1 – #7, one has to question the real intent of liberals in their relentless quest to disarm citizens.
