You Can Do Anything

Now that we have self-esteem, we can dispense with talent, determination, hard work, and tough skin:

Don’t laugh. It didn’t take much more than unwarranted self-esteem to get Barack Hussein eight years in the White House.

On a tip from IslandLifer.

I’m sorry, but that is about the funniest yet most depressing thing I have ever watched.

    Monty Python’s LIFE OF BRIAN

Stan: I want to be a woman. From now on, I want you all to call me Loretta.

    Reg: What?

Loretta: It’s my right as a man.

Judith: Well, why do you want to be Loretta, Stan?

Loretta: I want to have babies.

Reg: You want to have babies?!

Loretta: It’s every man’s right to have babies if he wants them.

    Reg: But…you can’t have babies!

    Loretta: Don’t you opress me!

Reg: I’m not opressing you, Stan. You haven’t got a womb. Where is the foetus going to gestate? You’re going to keep it in a box?

    Loretta: Sniff.

Judith: Here, I’ve got an idea. Suppose you agree that he can’t actually have babies, not having a womb, which is nobody’s fault, not even the Romans’, but that he can have the right to have babies.

Rogers: Good idea, Judith. We shall fight the oppressors for your right to have babies, brother. Sister! Sorry.

    Reg: What’s the point?

    Rogers: What?

Reg: What’s the point of fighting for his right to have babies, when he can’t have babies?

Rogers: It is symbolic of our struggle against opression.

Reg: Symbolic of his struggle against reality.

Kind of gives new and scarier meaning to that worn-out progressivist phrase “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

  6. rinardman says:

Most of those who think they can do anything are only good at doing nothing.

I couldn’t even laugh because it was all too true! Geez, you know when even the mainstream TV pokes fun at the absurdity of pop ‘self-esteem,’ things have got really bad!

  8. Ghost of FA Hayek says:

A great article on self esteem vs. self respect
When people speak of their low self-esteem, they imply two things: first, that it is a physiological fact, rather like low hemoglobin, and second, that they have a right to more of it. What they seek, if you like, is a transfusion of self-esteem, given (curiously enough) by others; and once they have it, the quality of their lives will improve as the night succeeds the day. For the record, I never had a patient who complained of having too much self-esteem, and who therefore asked for a reduction. Self-esteem, it appears, is like money or health: you can’t have too much of it.

This can also apply to the left’s election strategy of class envy.
“you know, it’s not your fault that your life is in shambles, that big house loan the bank turned you down on, that repossessed car, that the degree in cultures and lifestyles of the Antarctic prepared you for no more than a job flippin burgers.
Vote D, and we will set the world right.

    Well, this is where it goes from there if the statists have their way;
No doubt with Moochelle 0 for Handicapper General.

See also ‘the Dunning-Kruger effect’ a cognitive bias many liberals suffer from, in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average.

You people keep talking like the election wasn’t stolen, stand up and tell the truth.

I’m equally shocked how frightneningly close to the mark they hit reality and highly amused. Maybe when I stop being shocked I’ll remember to laugh.
