Imposing Cap & Trade Through LOST

The insane LOST treaty that Obama et al. are trying to sneak through the Senate would do much more than redistribute $billions of Americans’ money to Third World dictatorships. It would cripple the economy by inflicting backdoor Cap & Trade. Unsurprisingly, the treasonous Hanoi John Kerry is behind the latest maneuver:

President Obama’s plans to pass economy killing cap and trade regulations may have died in the Senate in 2010. But, if Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., gets his way, they will be resurrected after the presidential election.

At a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing Wednesday, Kerry announced that he would not be submitting the United Nations Conventions on the Law of the Sea (LOST) before the November election. Instead, Kerry intends to hold a series of hearings before the election, building the case for passage, before pushing the treaty in a lame duck session. This is the exact same game plan Kerry executed to pass the New START treaty in the 2010 lame duck.

Demorrhoids would have you believe that sacrificing American sovereignty to supranational entities will enhance our security. Obviously, it will not. The real purpose is to inflict devastatingly harmful regulations while evading responsibility in the public mind.

Here is how it would work: In much the same way that the contract you signed to get your credit card contains a binding arbitration clause, every country that signs LOST submits themselves to the jurisdiction of international tribunals for “maritime disputes” with other signatory countries.

When you hear the term “maritime dispute” you might think of something like an argument over shipping lanes. But LOST also obligates signatories to “take all measures necessary to ensure that activities under their jurisdiction or control are so conducted as not to cause damage by pollution to other States and their environment.” Carbons emissions are considered “pollution” according to most sources of international law.

So, if the Senate approves LOST this December, any country who believes they are being harmed by global warming could force the U.S. into binding arbitration, most likely in front of the Annex VII Arbitral Tribunal, LOST’s default dispute resolution forum.

Any judgment from that tribunal would not only be final, it could not be appealed, and it would be immediately enforceable in U.S. federal court. In 1982, a similar arbitration body forced Canada to set caps on their sulfur dioxide emissions causing industry to spend millions on mitigation efforts. A LOST tribunal could set similar caps on U.S. carbon emissions, triggering trillions in economic damages.

Anyone who attempts to turn over American sovereignty to hostile foreigners is a traitor by definition; it should come as no surprise that their motivations are malevolent.

Nanny Bloomberg Cracks Down on Soda

Under NYC’s Mayor for Life Michael Bloomberg, the liberal compulsion to dictate every picayune aspect of our lives has reached the point of self-parody:

New York City plans to enact a far-reaching ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts, in the most ambitious effort yet by the Bloomberg administration to combat rising obesity.

The proposed ban would affect virtually the entire menu of popular sugary drinks found in delis, fast-food franchises and even sports arenas, from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas. The sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle — would be prohibited under the first-in-the-nation plan, which could take effect as soon as next March.

If petty tyrants like Bloomberg can tell you how much you can weigh and how large a cup of soda you can drink, do you have any personal liberty whatsoever? Is there any intrusion into your personal business sanctimonious thugs won’t feel entitled to inflict?

The answer to both questions is no, as confirmed by Bloomberg’s characteristically snide and arrogant response to critics.

“Your argument, I guess, could be that it’s a little less convenient to have to carry two 16-ounce drinks to your seat in the movie theater rather than one 32 ounce,” Mr. Bloomberg said in a sarcastic tone. “I don’t think you can make the case that we’re taking things away.”

It’s almost as if Bloomberg doesn’t understand the obvious question, “By what right?”

He also said he foresaw no adverse effect on local businesses, and he suggested that restaurants could simply charge more for smaller drinks if their sales were to drop.

Charging more is a sure fix for declining sales.

Mayor Mike has taken this jihad to such an extreme that he even tried to restrict the use of food stamps to buy soda. But the federal government shot him down on that.

Who died and made this jerk dictator?

United Nations Honors Robert Mugabe

Only the United Nations could top the disgusting outrage of Obama awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the communist Dolores Huerta. Here’s how:

The United Nations has “hit a new low” with its decision to honor Zimbabwe strongman Robert Mugabe as an international tourism leader, House Foreign Affairs Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) said Tuesday.

Mugabe has been accused of rigging elections, cracking down on political opponents and plunging his country into economic ruin. The president is an international pariah subject to a travel ban by the United States and the European Union.

But on Tuesday, Mugabe and one of his political allies, Zambian President Michael Sata, inked an agreement for their countries to co-host the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s general assembly in August 2013. The U.N. also sent Mugabe and Sata a letter asking them to serve as “global leaders” for tourism.

They must have picked Mugabe because so many tourists travel to his country to watch the fly-covered, pot-bellied children starve.

The UNWTO controversy comes just days after U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay called for the suspension of international sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe since 2002.

Under British colonial rule, Rhodesia was known as the Breadbasket of Africa. Then came Hope & Change. It is now known as Zimbabwe. The white-run farms that produced such abundance have been seized in the name of The People and given over to weeds. Mugabe, a socialist, rules with an iron fist from his palace. Inflation has reduced the currency to worthlessness.

At least Zimbabwe offers hope to the USA. If we continue on our current course, the UN will start to like us.

Sacred Victim Status for Fat People in UK

At last some good news out of the sinking remnants of Britain. Soon even normal people will qualify for the many perks of victimhood. All they’ll have to do is put on a little weight:

A parliamentary report published [Tuesday] says that a lack of self esteem is damaging a generation of children who may struggle with school work and forming friendships.

All children could now attend body confidence and self esteem classes at school.

And now calling someone ‘fatty’ should be deemed a hate crime, these MPs say.

The Government should consider putting ‘appearance-based discrimination’ on a legal par with race and sexual discrimination, the report suggests.

The Equalities Act 2010 makes it unlawful to harass, victimise or discriminate against anyone because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

There was a time when you had to be a blood relative of the king to have that kind of status. Before long, everyone in Britain will be special. But they’ll have to communicate with hand gestures, because anything they could possibly say will be regarded by someone as hate speech.

Obama’s War on Capitalism

Despite the obviously insincere rhetoric he will sometimes dutifully recite at fundraisers, the first red diaper baby to grow up to be president has faithfully pursued the Marxist ideology of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Obama has been at war with economic freedom:

The former community organizer had just entered office when, in the summer of 2009, the federal government gave General Motors $49.5 billion in aid, including a $6.7 billion loan, to finance its bankruptcy. The result: Washington, not private shareholders, took roughly 61% ownership of GM.

The bailout wasn’t to save capitalism; it was a payback to the United Auto Workers union that gave Obama and his party more than $4 million. The UAW’s pension fund was given 17.5% of the new GM, worth about $7 billion.

GM wasn’t Obama’s only trophy. Chrysler was bailed out in 2009 as well, receiving $30 billion from Washington. Once again, the UAW was rewarded, this time with a 55% share of the company. In both bailouts, those with nonunion financial interests in the companies, from bondholders to creditors, received third-class treatment.

While it’s comforting to think the bailouts ended with GM and Chrysler, Obama has ominously said, “What’s happening in Detroit can happen in other industries.”

And it will, if Obama gets another four years to wreak havoc.

Obama has continued his capitalism-wrecking, union-favoring campaign by naming members to the National Labor Relations Board who tried to block Boeing from opening a plant in South Carolina to build the company’s 787 Dreamliner.

The NLRB accused Boeing of locating in a right-to-work state as a reprisal against union workers who organized strikes at the company’s Washington plant — one of which delayed production of the long-awaited 787 and cost the company $1.8 billion.

Calvin Coolidge, who presided over a period of burgeoning prosperity, famously said, “The business of America is business.” Comrade Obama’s other attacks on it include:

• Trying to put private insurers out of business and taking over one-seventh of the economy through ObamaCare.

• Seizing, in effect, the bank industry and nationalizing the student loan program.

• Blocking the Keystone XL pipeline.

• Delaying approval of the South Korea, Colombia and Panama trade deals.

• The sharp spike in costly regulations.

• His hope of hiking the tax burdens on oil companies by stripping them of the same tax breaks available to all industries.

As early as his first State of the Union address, the Manchurian Moonbat alerted Lawrence Kudlow that he had declared “war on investors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, large corporations, and private-equity and venture-capital funds.”

In 2008, voters picked a pig in a poke. This time, the choice is clear: socialism and poverty, or freedom and wealth. That Obama even dares put his name on the ballot is an alarming indication of how liberalism has corroded not only our national character but our sanity.

Green Energy Model Spain Drops Subsidies

Not being the first to go over the cliff into moonbattery-induced ruin affords us the advantage of benefiting from the expensive lessons of others:

Spanish renewable-energy companies that once got Europe’s biggest subsidies are deserting the nation after the government shut off aid, pushing project developers and equipment-makers to work abroad or perish.

From wind-turbine maker Gamesa Corp. Tecnologica SA (GAM) to solar park developer T-Solar Global SA, companies are locked out of their home market for new business. These are the same suppliers that spearheaded more than $69 billion of wind and solar projects since 2004 that today supply more than 50 percent of Spain’s power demand on the most breezy and sunny days.

Spain has figured out that even 50% green energy is economically unsustainable.

Saddled with a budget deficit more than twice the European Union limit and a ballooning gap between income and costs in its power system, Spain halted subsidies for new renewable-energy projects in January. The surprise move by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy one month after taking office helped pierce investor confidence in stable aid for clean energy across Europe.

“They destroyed the Spanish market overnight with the moratorium,” European Wind Energy Association Chief Executive Officer Christian Kjaer said in an interview. “The wider implication of this is that if Spanish politicians can do that, probably most European politicians can do that.”

The smarter ones will do it before they are staring bankruptcy in the face like Spain.

Meanwhile, the last I heard Obama wants to follow the Spanish model. If he means us well, he will skip to the part where the whole green energy farce is abandoned as crony capitalist boondoggling draped in unaffordable PC posturing.

Money up in smoke.

Obama Grants Highest Civilian Honor to Radical Socialist Dolores Huerta

What else can Obama do to disgrace the office of the presidency? I know — award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to a commie:

President Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Tuesday to Dolores Huerta, an 82-year-old labor activist and co-founder of the United Farm Workers union.

Huerta is also an honorary chair of the Democratic Socialists of America.

DSA describes itself as “the largest socialist organization in the United States, and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International.”

Readers might remember Huerta as the unhinged moonbat who shrieked at Tucson schoolchildren that “Republicans hate Latinos.”

She has said of socialist dictator Hugo Chavez’s oppressive and disastrously failed policies, “Why can’t we do that here in the United States?”

By now we can drop the absurd charade that Barack Hussein is not a socialist.

Being a commie wins Dolores the highest award.

Arabs Lobby for Special Privileges From Big Government

It’s hard to believe that it would take 11 years from 9/11 for the Commerce Department to make it official that Arabs are more equal than others:

The Commerce Department is considering naming Arab Americans a socially and economically disadvantaged minority group that is eligible for special business assistance.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) petitioned Commerce earlier this year to ask that Arab Americans be made eligible for the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), which helps minority entrepreneurs gain access to capital, contracts and trade opportunities.

Appallingly, the petition specifically cites the September 11 attacks as a reason Arabs should be granted special advantages over non-Arabs.

The ADC petition cited “discrimination and prejudice in American society[,] resulting in conditions under which Arab-American individuals have been unable to compete in a business world.” The group claimed discrimination against Arab Americans increased after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Funny, all I’ve seen since 9/11 is people obsequiously bending over backward in their reverence for anyone who might be Muslim.

“The ADC petition asserts that, in the government’s efforts to protect Americans, they essentially took away the rights of other Americans,” according to the notice of proposed rulemaking about the petition.

Sort of like the way they disadvantage some groups by heaping special advantages onto others.

Groups that are already more equal than others in the eyes of the Commerce Department include

African-Americans, Puerto Ricans, Spanish-speaking Americans, American Indians, Eskimos, Aleuts, Hasidic Jews, Asian-Pacific Americans and Asian Indians.

Why don’t the bureaurats make it easy on themselves and just say everybody gets help except English-speaking Caucasians, who get Obama’s infamous boot on the neck?

Earning prized victim status for Arabs.

Outraged Poles Demand Apology After Obama Gaffe

Barack Hussein Obama would make the whole world love us, moonbats promised. Now our rivals openly despise us, and our friends are getting sick of the insults.

First he drove Britain away and betrayed Israel; now he continues to alienate Poland:

Poland’s foreign minister has demanded Barack Obama apologise after referring to “Polish death camps” during the Second World War.

The US President made the slip while honouring Jan Karski, a Polish resistance fighter who was among the first to raise the alarm over the Nazi concentration camps, during a ceremony at the White House.

Diplomatically, this could be compared to raising doubts about whether the Holocaust really happened at a ceremony to honor its victims.

Poland has long been sensitive to any implication that it was involved in the Holocaust, accurately pointing out that the camps on Polish soil were run by occupying German forces.

Foreign Minister Radek Sikorsi took to Twitter to insist that the White House apologise for the “outrageous error” and said that Prime Minister Donald Tusk would make a statement on Wednesday morning.

“It’s a pity that this important ceremony was upstaged by ignorance and incompetence,” he wrote.

At least there’s a silver lining; many Americans have come to understand that President of the USA is not an entry-level position that should be assigned on an Affirmative Action basis.

In Poland, but hardly Polish.

Michelle Obama and the Girls-Only Sub

The nice thing about giving liberals power over the military is it allows them to conduct social engineering experiments while devoting our defense resources to making PC statements:

First Lady Michelle Obama has agreed to sponsor a future submarine named after her home state that will be staffed by an all-female crew.

The USNS Illinois will cost about $2.7 billion. No word yet on the color scheme.

The Navy recently launched the USNS Cesar Chavez, but so far as I know, the crew isn’t all Mexican. I wonder what the makeup of the USNS Harvey Milk will be.
