Los Angeles May Commandeer Luxury Hotels to House Homeless Because COVID-19

Any aspect of the progressive agenda can be inflicted in the name of the ChiCom virus, up to and including actual confiscation of property of the type that was seen in the homeland of the virus after communists seized power.

Via Fox News:

The Los Angeles City Council Wednesday voted to identify hotels refusing to take in the homeless during the coronavirus pandemic and said they could possibly be “commandeered.”

Rights that our ancestors fought and died for must be sacrificed if it theoretically might save lives according to the experts. This applies even to the basic rights that serve as the pillars of civilization, like property rights.

“Each hotel brings new hope, each room could save a life,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said of Project Roomkey, according to KABC-TV.

Councilman Mike Bonin frames commandeering hotels as a “civil rights” issue. At this point, “civil rights” are to rights what “social justice” is to justice.

The motion, co-authored by Bonin, says, some hotels have been “unwilling to participate, reneged on initial interest, citing security concerns, liability issues, objections from corporate management or fear of lost revenue from being branded a ‘homeless hotel,’” according to KABC.

Therefore, their property must be taken by force.

The Third Amendment restricts government from forcibly quartering soldiers in people’s homes. Too bad this doesn’t apply to the unofficial zombie army of the Democrat Party, for which recruitment is accomplished through open borders, encouragement of drug use, a refusal to address mental illness, and job-destroying liberal policies.

The Ritz Carlton in downtown Los Angeles, which has luxury condo residences, was among those resisting.

The Ritz won’t have quite the same cachet after it has been used as a government homeless shelter — always assuming that Big Government ever feels a need to give the hotel back to its rightful owners.

The hotel has received millions of dollars in tax breaks from the city over the years, according to FOX 11.

Any favor from Big Government comes with strings attached — even the “favor” of it refraining from confiscating as much money as it might have otherwise.

The condo residence’s homeowner’s association cited security, health and property value concerns in a letter to homeowners saying they would resist housing the homeless.

The average price for a one-bedroom condo in the hotel is about $1 million; some go for 40 times as much.

For that money, owners expect not to trip over drug-addled derelicts defecating in the hallway. They shouldn’t have spent so much on the mortgage that there was not enough left over to bribe councilmen to leave their property alone.

You might have thought it would take a bloody and protracted war before leftists could impose this level of tyranny on Americans. But decades of having our national character rotted away by moonbattery seem to have accomplished the job.

Confirmed in Los Angeles County: COVID-19 Antibodies Vastly More Prevalent Than Previously Believed

The Stanford University study showing that antibodies to the Wuhan coronavirus are vastly more prevalent than previously suspected was a game changer. As noted earlier,

This would mean that the disease is less serious than we were told, that the mortality rate is lower, that herd immunity will end this soon despite being unfortunately delayed by the Flatten the Curve strategy, and that the job-killing police state lockdowns were a hysterical overreaction.

We needed confirmation that we have let authoritarians take a sledgehammer to the economy and a blowtorch to the Constitution for little or no benefit. That confirmation has begun to arrive:

Researchers from the University of Southern California conducted antibody tests on a random sample of 863 Los Angeles County residents on April 10 and 11.

The results echo the shocking revelation in Santa Clara County: an estimated 4.1% of adults in LA County have COVID-19 antibodies, meaning they already had the disease, even if many of them never knew they were sick.

[T]he results mean between 221,000 and 442,000 adults in Los Angeles County have had COVID-19. According to the Los Angeles County health department website, there were 13,816 confirmed cases in the county as of Monday.

That reduces the LA County fatality rate from 4.4% to as low as 0.28%.

The good news is that the Chinese virus appears to be nowhere near as big a deal as we were led to believe. The bad news is that knowing this does not put the economy back together. It doesn’t even put an end to the lockdown.

The millions of people who have had their lives destroyed so that Anthony Fauci could “flatten the curve” may be a little annoyed to learn that the curve did not necessarily need flattening, and that the lockdown probably didn’t start until the disease had largely spread throughout the population anyway.

Los Angeles Has Fallen

Since we got Democrats out of the White House, the economy has been booming. Unemployment is at a historic low. Yet the homeless situation in California continues to spiral out of control. Slightly Offens*ve ventures into the moonbat dystopia of Los Angeles to show us how intolerable the situation has become:

This is the price of single-party liberal rule. The Democrat Party is an alliance of authoritarian elitists and the dysfunctional poor against the middle class. Where Democrats have cleared the battlefield of opposition — which they have been able to do in California thanks to mass immigration — the middle class shrivels and dies. The liberal elite ruling class lives extravagantly; the rest live with the rats.

Meanwhile, we have to listen to zillionaire Democrats shriek sanctimoniously about “income inequality” as they use Marxist rhetoric to inflict the same fate on the rest of the country.

Revolution Club Los Angeles: America Was Never Great!

Let’s not single out Pete Buttigieg. Lots of moonbats think America was never great. Revolution Club Los Angeles, for example.

Via the New York Post:

A self-described communist group burned an American flag outside a Los Angeles hotel Tuesday in protest of President Trump’s arrival in the city, sparking a series of fights with pro-Trump counter-protesters.

“America was never great!” chanted a contingent from Revolution Club Los Angeles as they locked hands in a circle outside the Beverly Hills Hotel, a video of the act tweeted by the group shows.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too. You can’t side with the left and pretend not to despise the USA, its history, its heritage, and its freewheeling, free-market, freedom-loving way of beating every other country to the top — which Old Glory represents.

The tweet accompanying the video confirms that Revolution Club Los Angeles SJWs side with foreign invaders and Iran against their own country, and champion the drug-addled hordes of derelicts that have turned large parts of their own city into a hellscape resembling the zombie apocalypse. That is to say, they are within today’s Democrat mainstream.

Los Angeles Is a Sh**hole

There is no point importing a different population from sh**hole countries when we have sh**holes right here in the USA. Portland and San Francisco are two examples. Los Angeles is another. Paul Joseph Watson lifts the lid:

Any city will become a sh**hole that remains under moonbat rule for long.

Los Angeles Assemblymoonbat Sides With Rats Against Humans

Progressives always self-righteously side with “them” versus “us.” In the dystopia subsidized homelessness is making of Los Angeles, it comes down to humans versus the burgeoning rats that spread serious diseases like typhus. Guess whose side leftist local authorities take. That’s right, the side of the rats.

California Assemblyman Richard Bloom of hoity-toity Santa Monica wants to ban second-generation rat poisons. (The rats developed immunity to first-generation poisons.)

He is worried about “predatory species, such as raptors, bobcats, and foxes (that) regularly consume rodents as part of their diet. Poisoned rodents also become more lethargic and exhibit abnormal behavior” according to an analysis of the bill.

However,

The analysis says that data is “less conclusive in pointing to (rat poisons) as the specific cause of death in necropsied animals.”

Hawks dying from the rat poison is theoretical, like CO2 exacerbating global warming.

What is not theoretical is the threat LA’s exploding rat population poses to humans.

Typhus cases spread by fleas hosted primarily by rats numbered 109 in 2018, having more than doubled in seven years.

People die of typhus, which has already reached epidemic levels in Los Angeles. Rats have even carried it into City Hall. Some suspect that bubonic plague, also spread by rats, is already present in LA.

Another threat that is not theoretical but actual is posed by wind turbines, which kill hundreds of hawks every year. These turbines are subsidized by the same sort of moonbats who would ban rat poison.

Too bad we can’t just send in a few thousand feral cats; there is no shortage. But with today’s rats, that might not work out:

Los Angeles With No Gas Stations

I just spent most of a 3-day weekend driving to, around, and back from Los Angeles. It would be virtually impossible to get around the place without a car. That’s why Los Angeles will die if the envirofascist moonbats running the county get their way. Can you imagine a Los Angeles with no gas stations? Social engineers can. It’s part of their sustainability plan.

If carried out, the list of 159 action items included in the plan could dramatically transform LA’s landscape in the coming decades. County officials call the scheme to phase out fossil fuels the “nation’s most ambitious” regional proposal.

Modern economies at every level — including the local level — rely heavily on fossil fuels to function. Jacobins have decided that these precious fuels will have no place in America’s second largest city in the near future. Because global warming.

No sane person thinks that the global climate is perceptibly influenced by whether people in Los Angeles drive or try to get around on bicycles like Cuban peasants. But sanity has nothing to do with authoritarian virtue signaling.

Maybe it’s just as well that there won’t be any gas stations. Traffic would come to a complete stop anyway due to the plan to install bus-only lanes throughout a region that already has nowhere near enough traffic lanes. In addition, planners will eliminate parking requirements for new housing. A car isn’t much use if you have nowhere to keep it.

They also want to put an end to oil drilling and refining in the region, which will hurt not only the local economy but the whole country.

The demented goal is to make the entire county “carbon neutral” by 2050.

It’s more than a trendy posture. As the former brains behind AOC confirmed, the global warming hoax is not about the climate. It is about totalitarianism. In the kind of country progressives have planned, transportation will only take us where someone in authority has decided we should go.

If whole cities plunge into economic collapse, so much the better. Poor people are easier to rule.

Visit Skid Row, Los Angeles

Austen Fletcher is your tour guide for an informative visit to Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles:

Even the street people seem to understand that throwing money at LA homelessness won’t lessen it, any more than the booming economy does. On the contrary, other people’s money is fuel for the fire. Zombie hordes of mentally ill, drug-addled derelicts inundate Left Coast cities because liberal rule incentives dysfunction.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s solution is to double down by doubling the state taxpayer money spent subsidizing homelessness to an astounding $1 billion. As we will soon see, you can buy a lot of homelessness with that kind of money.

What would Democrats do differently if they were deliberately trying to collapse Western Civilization? That would sure make for a stumper of a Jeopardy question.

Moonbattery Destroys San Francisco and Los Angeles

Everything that moonbattery touches is made corrupt, filthy, diseased, hideous, and dysfunctional. This includes even some of the most beautiful cities in the world, like the crown jewels of California, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Once upon a time, some of the most beautiful cities in the entire world were on the west coast, but now those same cities are degenerating into drug-infested cesspools of filth and garbage right in front of our eyes. … Right now, nearly a quarter of the nation’s homeless population lives in the state of California, and more are arriving with each passing day. When you walk the streets of San Francisco or Los Angeles, you can’t help but notice the open air drug markets, the giant mountains of trash, and the discarded needles and piles of human feces that are seemingly everywhere. If this is what things look like when the U.S. economy is still relatively stable, how bad are things going to get when the economy tanks?

Tank it will, if only because liberals are sure to get back into power and inflict policies motivated by Marxism and climate ideology that are explicitly hostile toward the success of the free market economy.

UN official Leilani Farha visited San Francisco last year. She compared the conditions there to Third World hellholes like Mumbai. The difference is, San Francisco is the epicenter of the tech industry and therefore one of the wealthiest cities in the world. The condition of its streets is purely a function of liberal local politicians who incentivize homeless and tolerate illegal aliens and recreational drugs. Add in a severe economic slowdown and it will make Mumbai look like paradise.

As for Los Angeles,

If someone predicted half a century ago that a Los Angeles police station or indeed L.A. City Hall would be in danger of periodic, flea-borne infectious typhus outbreaks, he would have been considered unhinged. … Yet typhus, along with outbreaks of infectious hepatitis A, are in the news on California streets. … Hygienists warn that permissive municipal governments are setting the stage — through spiking populations of history’s banes of fleas, lice, and rats — for possible dark-age outbreaks of plague or worse.

If moonbattery can do this to California, it can do it to the rest of the country.

Debating the Issues on a Los Angeles Street Corner

The relentless, race-tinged campaign by the media to stoke hatred against anyone supportive of the President is having its effects. Watch what happens when Trump supporters try to hold a peaceful rally in Los Angeles (sorry about the language):

Note how heroically the oversized SJW zeroes in on the smallest guy he can find to lord it over, before spitting in a woman’s face.

Imagine trying to hold an intelligent discussion with this maniac. He illustrates why historically low levels of black unemployment during the Trump Administration don’t make any difference. All that matters is that Trump and his supporters are racist and bad; everyone knows it is true, because the media says so over and over and over again.

Los Angeles Garbage Heaps Breed Typhus

No story could be more emblematic of Los Angeles, a city inundated with moonbats, illegal aliens, bums, and degenerates. The garbage situation and therefore the rat situation are getting out of control:

Laying out a welcome mat for derelicts from every corner of the world turns out not to be such a bright idea. Already diseased vermin have infiltrated City Hall, and I’m not referring to liberal bureaucrats.

Typhus is no laughing matter. People die of it.

As noted earlier,

The word “typhus” comes from the Greek word for “hazy,” “describing the state of mind of those infected.” If hazy minds had not already been a problem at City Hall, the epidemic might have been avoided.

Whooping Cough Hits the Rich in Los Angeles

Liberal elitists inflict their agenda on regular Americans as if the consequences could never affect themselves. However, even as the rising tide of liberty lifts all boats, drilling holes in the bottom of a boat will eventually get everyone on board wet, even those in the captain’s quarters.

California’s elite don’t see a problem with flooding the state with unvetted illegal aliens from the Third World. Cheap landscaping and maid service, lots of Democrat votes, what’s not to like? Only the little people have to deal with the Third World conditions massive numbers of Third Worlders inevitably bring with them.

These conditions include diseases that we thought we had left behind us but that are now making a comeback in welfare-colonized California. The diseases did not get the memo regarding limiting the downside of illegal immigration to the little people.

Earlier, we learned that a typhus epidemic has infiltrated Los Angeles City Hall, probably spread by the rats that can be found in large numbers wherever Third World conditions prevail.

Now the elites of Los Angeles County have been hit with whooping cough:

Health officials say they are monitoring three large clusters of highly contagious whooping cough among 11- to 18-year-olds. …

Harvard-Westlake, which has campuses in Studio City and Beverly Crest, was hit particularly hard, with 30 students coming down with whooping cough since November, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Tuition at Harvard-Westlake is about $40,000 per year. This is on top of what their parents pay for public schools through outrageously high taxation — and the kids aren’t even in college yet. All of the infected students had been vaccinated.

Whooping cough is highly contagious and can be fatal for infants.

You can’t help but suspect that the whooping cough is another facet of cross-border multicultural enrichment, along with Chagas disease, dengue fever, malaria, leprosy, drug-resistant tuberculosis, hepatitis A–E, mumps, AIDS, chickenpox, scabies, flesh-eating bacteria, measles, chikungunya, and more measles. This is why, back when the people in charge wished our country well, immigrants were checked for disease before being allowed in.

Meanwhile, California’s ruling democrats want to ban paper receipts lest the BPA coating them make someone sick — even though it won’t. Because they are so concerned about public health.

If enough bureaucrats and rich people’s kids come down with awful diseases, the concern for public health may become more genuine. By then it will likely be too late to avoid major outbreaks.

Diseased Vermin Run Wild at Los Angeles City Hall

Previously we learned that the typhus epidemic in Los Angeles had sickened at least one bureaucrat, Deputy City Attorney Liz Greenwood. Looks like she won’t be the last:

On Thursday, Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez provided to KTLA video showing rats running through City Hall offices. Spooked staffers could be heard shrieking in the background.

With typhus, as with plague, rats spread the fleas that spread the disease.

Council President Herb Wesson has filed a motion:

Wesson’s motion asks for a report on the scope of vermin and pest control issues at City Hall, and instructs city staff to report back with a cost estimate for removing all carpets in the building…

Speaking of vermin and pests, the scope of the moonbat issue at City Hall is vast, or Los Angeles would not be suffering from terrible diseases from out of the history books. Sanctuary city and homelessness-promoting policies are likely to blame, in addition to the incompetence regarding trash disposal that can be expected when a city focuses on providing a welfare safety net hammock rather than appropriate services.
