ADA Used to Impose All Manner of Lunacy

The demented lawsuit bonanza known as the Americans With Disabilities Act has not yet inspired us to rebel, so bureaucrats tightened the screws still further with the “Revised ADA Standards for Accessible Design,” in affect as of March 15.

The 2010 ADA standards for Accessible Design require that at least 50 percent of golf holes on miniature golf courses be “accessible” — with a ground space that is “48 inches minimum by 60 inches minimum with slopes not steeper than 1:48 at the start of play.”

Virtually any type of recreational facility may be forced to make expensive if ludicrous alterations to comply with micromanagement by our moonbat masters:

Saunas — provision of accessible turning space and an accessible bench.

Shooting facilities — provision of accessible turning space “for each different type of firing position.”

Golf courses — “an accessible route to connect all accessible elements within the boundary.” An accessible route must also “connect golf car rental areas, bag drop areas, teeing grounds, putting greens, and weather shelters.”

Gyms — at least one of each type of exercise machine must be positioned for use by a person in a wheelchair.

Amusement parks — any new or altered ride must provide at least one seat for a person in a wheelchair.

As if all that isn’t sufficiently ridiculous to get across the message that the government is doing this to us just because it can,

A section of the guidelines regulating commercial facilities states that, “a public accommodation shall make reasonable modifications in policies, practices, or procedures to permit the use of a miniature horse by an individual with a disability if the miniature horse has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of the individual with a disability.”

That is, bureauweenies now require restaurants and china shops to pay obeisance to the sanctity of handicappedness by letting horses indoors.

Why use a horse instead of an animal that isn’t preposterously out of place indoors — a dog for example? Because Muslims don’t like dogs, and as of 9/11 there is nothing more sacred to our liberal rulers than a handicapped Muslim. This AP photo of a guide horse was not staged as a joke:

The absurdity of government regulations has passed the point where it has to be deliberate. The ADA is a test to determine just how much moonbattery we will put up with before we offer resistance.

So at least one leg lift machine at a gym has to be accessible by a person in a wheelchair? Is this so the person in the chair can sit and laugh at us WITH these clowns?

Well, now I need to talk to the board of the gun club to eliminate Public Shoot day (which will never happen because it’s one of the requirements of the lease from the USFS), and allow only members of the club on the premises.

This also reminds me that I need to contact the authorities about the lack of permanently installed handicap access devices at the $25 million (original price tag $3 million) aquatics center created with taxpayer dollars via eminent domain, but still requires taxpayers to pay an entrance fee for the few hours per week the center is actually open to the public.

I can only hope these idiots aren’t saying a roller coaster has to be capable of carrying a wheelchair. Parks have elevators and people may have to help a person to and from his wheelchair. But the fact of the matter is some thrill rides aren’t meant for people who are paralyzed. I’m sure those rides will soon be banned because it isn’t fair.

The ADA perfectly illustrates the axiom that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

    How about guide pigs?

I think the Muslim hatred of dogs must be because dogs can bite. When they’re buggering the farm animals anything with sharp teeth is a problem.

Now the blind Islamist can take his seeing-eye mini-donkey girlfriend with him wherever he goes!

How far do we go to “accommodate” people? I was waiting in line for a roller coaster at an amusement park last year. The line stopped moving as the attendants had to try to load an overweight mentally challenged man in a wheelchair onto the ride. Getting him out of the wheelchair was struggle enough. Then, when he wouldn’t fit in the seat, he began screaming hysterically. They took him out. However, he pointed back at the ride and screamed even louder. So, they tried again! After 15 minutes, they wheeled him back down the exit ramp. The man did not appear to be mentally stable enough to be on this ride. However, I’m sure the amusement park tells its attendants to at least TRY to accommodate anyone who asks to ride so the park isn’t accused of violating the ADA. Then, if this man had been injured on the ride, the park would probably be sued.
When the ADA was passed in 1990, I told everyone that this act would grow tentacles and become a huge burden on business. I had no idea, though, it would be expanded to roller coasters… or seeing-eye horses in china shops!

Notice how the woman in the rear of the bus has to face that horse’s ass the entire trip…

… And the service animal too. Ba-da-boom.

Seriously, amusement parks have had signs for years advising / restricting people under 48″ tall, with neck and back injuries, pregnant women, etc. EveryTHING is not for everyBODY. Common sense sometimes wins.

As I’ve posted here before, my Mom turns 84 next month. Diabetes and hip injuries limit her mobility to a walker. When we went to a restaurant she hobbled out of the car and to the table, asking for help from nobody except Dad. She refuses to get a handicap sticker for the car. “I’m alright, I can make it,” she says. Her eyes are fading too, so I read the menu to her.

Mom and Dad are from a different generation, one that loathes both pity and attention-seeking.

I feel for these people. I had this same problem with my guide panther. People kept refusing me service by running away when they saw us and that just pissed him off because they were never fast enough to be a challenge for him. It was cheaper to feed him that way but I couldn’t get a waitress to serve me.

  11. Spartan24 says:

At least landlords aren’t forced to accommodate people with disabilities-yet. A person wanting accommodations has to pay for the work that has to be done plus any restoration work that needs to be done when they move out. Older homes and apartments are grandfathered in so they do not have to be modified although new constructions need to meet standards. I can see a lawsuit some time in the future when some 400 pound diabetic in a wheelchair cannot fit into a 150 year old house that has been modified into apartments.

Shooting facilities? REAL handicapped shooters don’t need Obama OR the ADA.

“Growing up in Detroit, Ramouni could never get a dog because her devout Muslim family considered dogs unclean.”
As opposed to a donkey which everyone knows is so clean you could eat off of them, after you shoo away the flies.
By the way, the feeling is mutual, all of my dogs consider Muslims unclean.

  14. Momster says:

Dear Clingtomyguns. One muzzie who used to work at a local convenience store always smelled like onion soup…just walking into the store made my eyes water. Finally (just before he actually got deported!) someone explained to him about the fact that you put the deodorant on your skin…you don’t just put it on your shirt. I am not kidding.
