Anniversary of Ruby Ridge

Today is the 27th anniversary of the siege at Ruby Ridge, a significant day in the annals of Big Government run amok.

The event is particularly relevant given the hysterical hostility the media has been generating against “white nationalists.” Randy and Vicki Weaver held racial separatist views that would be less tolerated than ever by the liberal establishment. They moved with their four kids to a remote part of Idaho hoping to be left alone by a world they saw as going to hell.

Moonbattery.com sponsor Ammo.com reminds us what happened:

Specifically for his beliefs, Randy Weaver was targeted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) in an entrapping “sting” operation designed to gain his cooperation as a snitch. When he refused to become a federal informant, he was charged with illegally selling firearms. Due to a miscommunication about his court date, the Marshal Service was brought in, who laid siege to his house and shot and killed his wife and 14-year-old son.

His son Sammy was shot in the back. His wife Vicki was shot in the head while she held their 10-month-old daughter in her arms.

An internal investigation found that the [shot that killed Vicki] was out of policy and that the failure to request surrender was “inexcusable.”

The Feds wanted Weaver to inform on the Aryan Nations, a group that he did not actually belong to and that was already so completely infiltrated by federal law enforcement as to be “effectively a government-run shop.”

Despite the lethal abuse of force and illicit attempts by the government to cover its tracks, there were few consequences for those involved. At least we all got a reminder as to why government power must be limited.
