Anti-Christian LGBT Blitzkrieg Closes Down Sweet Cakes by Melissa

Cheer up, Gary Johnson. Hardly anyone is voting for you despite the weakest competition ever, but at least Sweet Cakes by Melissa has been destroyed:

After years of court battles, the Christian-owned bakery Sweet Cakes by Melissa is closing its doors.

The Oregon-based company was targeted by LGBT activists when owners Aaron and Melissa Klein said they wouldn’t bake a cake for a gay wedding because of their Christian beliefs.

The subsequent legal battled crippled the bakery. The Kleins had been operating out of their home for the last few years. But now they’ve announced on their Facebook page, “We have closed Sweet Cakes. We appreciate everyone’s continued prayer and support!”

They lost their business to anti-Christian repression, but they didn’t betray their beliefs, so unlike some, they get to keep their souls.

Left-wing authoritarians like Johnson would spin this tragedy as a big win against the boogeyman “discrimination.” LGBT activists must be whooping with triumph. But this is not about discrimination, and militant perverts are expendable tools. For those who impose it, tyranny is its own reward. The victory is particularly sweet when it comes at the expense of tyranny’s historic enemy, Christianity.

On tips from Manuel R and Torcer.

Regarding the caption, I would say there is nothing “soft” about this tyranny. The government destroyed their victims using financial tools. But if the victims had refused to pay, guns and clubs would have followed.

  2. Mr. Freemarket says:

A fine example of passing an innocent-sounding rule that destroys others.

For the non-discrimination rule to apply, Sweet Cakes had to be treated as a “public accommodation.” In other words, Sweet Cakes was treated as if, were they to deny their services to a portion of the public, those poor oppressed people would likely die….just like if a motel didn’t rent to blacks.

Currently, if you do any business with the public, you are a public accommodation. The only exceptions appear to be churches. We shall see how long that exception stands.

  3. TrojanMan says:

Its sad that so many on that side see oppression as freedom. So much for Freedom of Association and Freedom of Religion and free exercise thereof.

    ‘Left-wing authoritarians like Johnson’

Calling Johnson a left-wing authoritarian is silly.

Have you noticed that the specific criticisms leveled against Johnson are at a
completely different (lower) level than any of the others? For example, Hillary
makes geographical gaffes on a weekly basis which are seldom mentioned; Johnson did it once and it goes to the top of the news cycle. Or Johnson can’t name a present world leader he admires and struggles to remember the name of a former leader? (I can barely name a present leader I admire, either). He is
nowhere close to perfect – but he is a ‘normal’ politician and his strengths
and weaknesses are close to those of a normal Republican presidential
candidate, like a Romney or a McCain and unlike the other present candidates (who are definitely not normal; corrupt or deranged lunatics or both). The prejudice against Johnson is based on the fact he is 3rd party and that he stands (mostly) for freedom. To evaluate a politician you need to look at the whole picture not cherry pick for bad policies and mistakes because for every mistake you could find for Johnson, I could find a hundred for Trump.

If Johnson was running as a Republican, he’d be 6-10 points up on Hillary right now and no one (including you) would bat an eye to vote for him. If you don’t believe me, imagine that he was in fact running as a Republican. I would prefer Johnson to any of the Republican’s who ran in the primaries with the exception of Cruz who (along with Austin Peterson) were the only candidates more oriented toward freedom in this election cycle than Johnson.

The ideal of freedom has fled the Republican Party. The last bastion of freedom in America resides now with the Libertarians whether we are willing to admit it or not.

“We shall see how long that exception stands.” Such is the point of same sex “marriage”.

If the goal was equality this would have been easy. I believe that most Christians could care less if two adults want to sodomize each other. I can say “hey you are on the highway to hell” but in the end its your soul do with as you wish. What I care about is bastardizing the word marriage. Call it a civil union and almost everyone on the right would have been ok with that. You want equal protection under the secular law as normal people… FINE but don’t call it marriage. But alas the goal is to eradicate Christianity and tear down what built this country and replace it with gubermint.

    Sweet Cakes by Melissa, public accommodation therefore the bigots have to bake the cake;

Twitter, Google, etc…. private business therefore can discriminate freely against persons holding untoward political opinions (which they do, routinely)

“they didn’t betray their beliefs, so unlike some, they get to keep their souls”

Ah yes, three things which will surely send you to hell:

    1. Blaspheme against the holy spirit,
    2. Denying the divinity of Jesus;
    3. Seriously doubting whether ethanol subsidies are the biggest problem we need to deal with right now

  7. JeffersonSpinningInGrave says:

According to Johnson, he would have shut down Sweet Cakes, too. He said it, then doubled down on it. He has also supported wealth redistribution measures (so-called carbon taxes). My guess is that he’s authoritarian on other issues too, given that. But those two are enough to disqualify him as a libertarian (but not, it seems, as a Libertarian).

  8. NeverTrumper Assholes says:

But let’s make sure Hillary gets elected!

  17. CRC60 says:

Another exception is likely Muslim bakers.

  18. CRC60 says:

Time for Melissa to go on public assistant for a decade or two.

  19. Vic Kelley says:

Good luck to Mr. and Mrs. Klein. I don’t want to think about what they’ve been through.

  20. StephaneDumas says:

I wonder how they would had reacted if the owners of the bakery had converted to
    Islam?
Slightly off-topic, I saw that editorial toon made by a cartoonist from South Africa named Zapiro. https://zapiro.com/cartoons/160915tt

  21. StephaneDumas says:

They should be careful for what they wish for (violent ends), they might get it.

  22. crankywhitewoman says:

When will we see an Islamic bakery shut down for refusing to participate in a same sex marriage? Never. The LGBT crowd know Christians aren’t going to physically attack them, but Muslims will.

  23. crankywhitewoman says:

    He’s no Libertarian.

  24. JeffersonSpinningInGrave says:

As a libertarian, I have been hoping for a libertarian candidate to represent the Libertarian Party for years. None has come forward yet. Perhaps in earlier decades they had one.

  25. Mr. Freemarket says:

The reality is that the same sex marriage folks never wanted to be “married.” They were seeking for government approval of their marriage so that they could use it as a bludgeon against any who disapproved.

Same sex couples could have walked the streets of any conservative city, proclaiming that they were “married” and who would care? (FWIW, if a guy claims to be married to more than one woman at a time, the state can and has thrown him in prison whether he got an official “marriage license” or not).

But the same sex marriage folks simply wanted to use their legal status as “married” in order to attack any who disagreed.
