Authorities Side Against Proud Boys After New York Violence

Portland isn’t the only place starting to resemble Weimar Germany. Law and order are also breaking down in New York City. When Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes gave a speech at the Metropolitan Republican Club in Manhattan on Friday, it resulted in violence:

Evidently, an Antifa moonbat who came looking for trouble set off the melee by knocking off someone’s MAGA hat. But guess who the authorities blame?

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is questioning why state Republicans would have invited the founder of the far-right group the Proud Boys to speak in Manhattan, and blamed them and President Trump for violent clashes that took place after the speech.

The leftist hate group Southern Poverty Law Center is quoted as denouncing the Proud Boys because they “maintain affiliations with known extremists.” That is, they are right of center, and therefore qualify as unwelcome in New York by Cuomo’s criteria.

Cuomo said he had directed the state police to assist the New York Police Department in a probe of the violence that took place Friday night between the Proud Boys and those protesting the speech.

McInnes might be wise to stay out of New York for a while. The probe will not be evenhanded. Conceivably, it could degenerate into the criminalization of nonleftist views.

Three people have been arrested, but elected officials were outraged over videos posted online of the violence, saying they showed Proud Boys members were involved and should face consequences.

No doubt New York authorities are less enthusiastic about investigating the following:

The Republican Club had been vandalized ahead of the speech, with officials saying the damage included smashed windows, a spray-painted door and a keypad lock covered in glue. A note left at the scene claimed that the damage was “just the beginning.”

As state Republican Party spokeswoman Jessica Proud notes,

“It’s unconscionable that when Republicans were attacked and threatened, Governor Cuomo said absolutely nothing.”

Nonleftists can hardly expect a fair shake in Andrew Cuomo’s New York.
