Big Brother Is Watching

Strutting around like an NFL rooster after making a touchdown catch, the Virginia Beach Police Department issues an ominous warning: Big Brother is watching.

Smoking in a car with a minor present makes you fair game for a $100 fine in Virginia.

You may well ask, Why don’t they just ban cigarettes outright if second-hand smoke is such an extreme hazard to innocent children? The answer is the massive amount of tax revenue cigarettes bring in. The cigarette tax is relatively low in Virginia at 30¢ per pack (compared to $5.85 per pack in the People’s Republic of New York), probably because the state’s economy is partially dependent on tobacco. Maybe Big Government is trying to make up the difference in fines.

On a tip from Chuck A.
