Bureaucrats Stamp Out Acts of Kindness

No good deed goes unpunished, thanks to Big Government:

A chef in Decatur, Illinois, dared to serve food to the homeless without permission from the government, so armed police and health inspectors stormed into his house and seized his professional cooking equipment. …

[Khemuel “Chef”] Sanders has a food handler’s license. That is to say, he has already paid the state for permission to prepare food. That in and of itself is tyrannical, but that the cops and the food police would raid his house and take his cooking utensils into custody is so far beyond the pale that the pale isn’t even visible anymore.

You can’t see the pale in Los Angeles either, and not because of the smog:

Last September, city government shut down an operation that was providing tiny houses to the homeless in Los Angeles. Senior Assistant City Attorney Valerie Flores explained why her office couldn’t allow just anyone to offer shelter to people living on the street. “Most cities have very strict building codes to make sure that any structure approved have the bare minimum access to safe electricity, ventilation and water,” she said. “From what I’ve seen of these structures, they don’t meet current safety standards.”

Presumably sleeping on the sidewalk, as an exploding number of people do in Los Angeles, meets current safety standards.

Then, Flores doubled down on the despotism, declaring that even if an individual had one of these structures on private property, it would still be seized as it would likely not pass municipal code muster.

At least we can be grateful that there still is such a thing as private property — in theory, for now.

Greg Schiller of Chicago let homeless people get out of the bitter cold by sleeping in his garage. Authorities found out and wouldn’t allow it. So he let people sleep in the basement. Authorities told him to knock it off or they would condemn his house.

Charity is now a government operation, conducted strictly on a coercive basis. Interlopers from the shrinking realm of voluntary action will not be permitted.

Bolshevik genociders denied access to food and shelter to tens of millions last century and blamed the resulting deaths on “famines” and “bitter cold.” Starvation is far more effective an extermination technique than shooting and torturing to death.

Their American comrades have learned far more than they had previously let on from the idols. We are seeing it put into practice at ever faster rates.

Not to worry, they will get to the shooting and torturing us to death soon enough if we offer no resistance.

Not all homeless waifs are Oliver, the noble poor.

  3. SineWaveII says:

I notice that all of these stories happen in the deep blue democrap areas. I doubt you’d see as much of this in the deep red areas.

  4. ICEvictim says:

never move into a bureaucracy’s fief! By taking care of these homeless people and getting them off the street you reduce the “emergency” that requires millions (billions?) of tax money to fix it. Oh, and also thousands of bureaucrats to do the work.

  5. Angel says:

Bureaucrats have no incentive to “solve” the homeless problem. That would put them out of their cushy jobs.

  6. ICEvictim says:

exactly! true for any and every agency

  7. Brian Purcell says:

They’re going to kill off their voter base long before they get to us. They’re scared skillets of us, as well they should be. Trust me, they won’t “get to the shooting” of us in WV anytime soon. We’re gun loving, law-abiding real/actual citizens that will not be snuffed out quietly or otherwise

    Pay careful attention Democratic voters:
One of the many reasons Conservatives are against Big Government is because:
    They interfere with self-determination
They want to regulate all parts of peoples’ lives
They want to tax people for anything possible
And mostly, this is ever more proof that THEY DON’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE POOR they CLAIM to care so much about insofar as it can further their tax & spend & CONTROL agenda.

  11. Franklyfrank says:

Of course they do. That’s why here in NY everyone is taxed to death but they can’t fix any infrastructure.
My state is turning into more of a s***hole every day thanks to the likes of Deblasio, Schumer, Cuomo & others.
Yeah, that’s right I said it.
Trying to convince people that voting for Democrats always screws them over, but no, Limousine, NIMBY Liberals keep voting that way. And thankfully, some are starting to see the error of their ways since Comrade Deblasio mandated that a mens’ homeless shelter be smack dab in the middle of a tony, fifth Ave. neighborhood.
The wealthy there, are shocked, SHOCKED that their private Idaho is being disrupted by the mentally disturbed.
Guess they are getting what they voted for.

Anything that tends to bring into question, the leftist narrative that “good things ONLY flow from more government”, obviously needs to be terminated with extreme prejudice.
If things don’t change, in less than 10 years, the Dept. of Agriculture will have a special SWAT team that flies all over the country, exclusively dedicated to taking out kids’ lemonade stands.

  13. Occam's Stubble says:

Kind of like the Californians who thought ObamaCare was going to be paid for by taxes on the rich and then found out they were the rich.

  14. Mr. Freemarket says:

Well, that’s not true that they “don’t give a damn about the poor.” They care a great deal about the poor.

    1. When money is funneled to the poor, the bureaucrats consume about two thirds of those funds making sure that the poor are truly worthy of what they receive.

    2. By handing out things to the poor (such as iphones) they secure votes.

    3. They scare the poor by telling them if they elect republicans, the republicans will stop the gravy train.

It is all about votes and money.

  15. Mr. Freemarket says:

BTW, here’s a chart showing the percent of US citizens receiving food stamps. The democrats can use such a chart to show how fewer people are on food stamps, clearly because republicans and mean and democrats care more for the poor.

What they don’t tell you is that the downturn is due to more people getting jobs, no longer needing food stamps.

  16. Frank says:

    As always, the real issue is C O N T R O L!

“At least we can be grateful that there still is such a thing as private property — in theory, for now.”

That hasn’t been true since the not-so-supreme court ruled that governments can condemn and seize private property and give it to developers if new construction can increase the tax base.

  17. Franklyfrank says:

All true, and my point exactly (see my last line.)
    Your points are excellent.

  18. Mr. Freemarket says:

    Like minds….

  19. Jack Bauer says:

Yes….that case should be a red flag to all Americans, yet only a small percentage has likely ever heard about it.
Two other SCOTUS decisions that should send chills down everyone’s spines were the confirmation of “constitutionality” of the “McCain/Feingold campaign finance reform” which among other things, regulated free speech during an election cycle. What the hell ever happened to “Congress shall make no law…..of abridging freedom of speech”…?

The other was John Robert’s determination of constitutionality of Obamacare, with regards to the question of govt. having the authority to DEMAND that people buy a service or face a fine.

Corruption in government is everywhere…….even in the SCOTUS
