Out of the blue, the couple got a ticket for parking in their own driveway. …

It came with an enormous fine: $1,542 dollars, plus another $250 per day if they didn’t get the car off their carpad.

The city’s Planning Department said maybe they could get a waiver and be allowed to use their own property — provided they could “prove that parking was a historic use on the lot.”

The couple dug up and submitted various photographic evidence that cars had been parked there since at least 1938. But bureaucrats sniffed that the proof was unsatisfactory.

Why was this elderly couple suddenly forbidden to park their car at their own home?

Planning Chief Dan Sider … said someone made an anonymous complaint to the city.

Two types benefit from government hypertrophy: petty tyrants and rats.

In their condescending benevolence, SF’s pencil-pushing overlords deigned to let the fine slide — so long as the Craines never park on their car pad again.

We have hit peak moonbattery. Now the backlash can begin. Weather Underground scion Chesa Boudin has been recalled as DA in the world capital of degenerate woke lunacy, San Francisco:

Voters in progressive San Francisco on Tuesday overwhelmingly supported the recall of Chesa Boudin, the city’s radical left-wing district attorney, two years after he was elected on a platform that emphasized reducing the jail population and prioritizing “restorative justice.”

“Restorative justice” is Liberalese for mollycoddling criminals.

Boudin’s platform could be summed up as “F the Police.” This was fashionable as the Black Lives Matter riots raged, but less so now that the media-manufactured mania had died down and people are waking up to the inevitable effects of wokeism, which include rampant crime.

Boudin’s liberal credentials are impeccable. He worked as a translator and advisor for Hugo Chavez, whose ruination of Venezuela has served as the primary template for the Democrat agenda. Born into moonbattery, he is the offspring of Weather Underground terrorists Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert. He was named after cop-killer Joanne Chesimard (aka Assata Shakur), the patron saint of Black Lives Matter, who now resides in communist Cuba.

Because his parents were incarcerated for killing two police officers and a security guard during a robbery, he was raised by two other Weather Underground terrorists, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. These same two terrorists launched the political career of Barack Obama from their Chicago apartment.

Boudin gave voters what they asked for:

He ended cash bail, stopped prosecuting drug-possession cases stemming from “pretextual” traffic stops, stopped using “enhancements” to extend prison sentences for convicted gang members, and stopped prosecuting so-called quality-of-life crimes — things such as prostitution, public camping, public defecation, and open-air drug use. Supporters of the recall say that sent a message that San Francisco was a consequence-free place to engage in low-level crimes, which simply encouraged more crime in the city generally.

By implementing the Broken Windows theory in reverse, Boudin helped make San Francisco into the uninhabitable hellhole it is today.

In 2021, a year that saw nearly 500 people in the city killed by a worsening fentanyl crisis, Boudin’s office didn’t convict a single person of dealing the drug. They chose instead to emphasize diversion programs and lower-level “accessory after the fact” charges, in part to protect immigrant drug dealers from deportation…

As with Biden, his administration has been a case study in applied liberalism.

That even left-wing San Francisco would overwhelmingly vote to oust one of the progressive-prosecutor movement’s leading figures shows just how much the nation’s mood has changed over the past two years as rising crime has plagued big cities across the country.

What are our rulers in the Democrat Party/mainstream media complex learning from this? Not a thing. Intelligencer honked in advance that if Boudin were to be recalled, it would be because San Francisco isn’t liberal after all. These kooks will continue to double down.

Those social justice politics included changing the names of 44 schools named after retroactively canceled thought criminals, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and even insufficiently left-wing former San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein. Not even being homosexual has spared whites from cancelation by the San Francisco Board of Education on a racial basis, as Seth Brenzel learned. The school board is so politically correct that it canceled the concept of acronyms for being racist.

Let’s see what voters can do about other Soros-backed maniacs in positions like Boudin’s (e.g., George Gascon [Los Angeles] Alvin Bragg [Manhattan], Kim Foxx [Chicago], Larry Krasner [Philadelphia], Kim Gardner [St Louis], and Marilyn Mosby [Baltimore]). San Francisco is the world capital of liberalism. That’s where to go if you want to find liberal tolerance:

A March 4 memorandum from City Administrator Carmen Chu reveals that San Francisco will not enter into contracts with businesses headquartered in most of the United States — 28 states in all. Official travel to those states is also forbidden.

These states have been canceled for being insufficiently left wing on the topics of submitting to the LGBT agenda, abortion, and election fraud.

It will come as little surprise to anyone familiar with the M.O. of San Francisco government that we have no tests nor audits nor analysis nor methodology to determine if our travel bans or boycotts are making any difference for the good.

The point is to posture; actual results are irrelevant.

Liberal tolerance doesn’t come cheap:

As a result of this vast boycott, San Francisco is constraining the number of businesses it can ink deals with, which all but certainly inhibits quality and drives up costs. It also adds onerous time constraints to the contracting process, which leads to poor outcomes and also drives up costs.

That could be said of moonbattery in general, which is why so many businesses are escaping California.

Few moonbats learn from their mistakes. When their intolerant idiocy inevitably produces bad outcomes, they tend to double down. Also, they federalize and metastasize. That’s why they may be able to pull the whole country down with them.

On Friday, three San Francisco police officers frequented the Hilda and Jesse restaurant – that offers “Breakfast without boundaries.” The police officers were seated, but shortly after, the “staff felt uncomfortable with the presence of their multiple weapons.”

The police officers were then “politely asked them to leave,” according to the restaurant.

The owners of Hilda and Jesse reportedly issued a response that said, “Our restaurant is a safe space – particularly for queer and BIPOC individuals.”

How safe do these moonbats figure their restaurant will be for politically sacred identity groups or anyone else without police protection?

“Community engagement is a core principle of SFPD’s 21st century police reforms, and we are intentional about asking our officers to support local businesses and get to know those they’re sworn to safeguard,” [San Francisco Police Chief Bill] Scott wrote on Twitter.

It isn’t easy to engage with a community that hates your guts — or to feel motivated to put your life on the line for it. If the police were less professional, owners Kristina Liedags Compton and Rachel Sillcocks would be likely to find them too busy to respond when the rising tide of anarchy forces them to make a 911 call.

A shocking 71% of respondents said the quality of life in the greater Bay Area is worse now compared to five years ago. Fifty-six percent of respondents said they are considering leaving in the next five years — including 53% of respondents who work in the tech sector.

Primary complaints include the high cost of housing, the high cost of living, homelessness, and crime — all areas that are unlikely to improve under liberal rule, as the Biden Administration has illustrated.

These same voters sent Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to Congress. She is one of the key figures in charting the current course of the country. What has been done to her district, Democrats want to inflict throughout the land.

The main difference is that the whole country does not enjoy the vast wealth Silicon Valley generates, so Building Back Better will entail severe poverty.

Mayor of San Francisco London Breed follows in the footsteps of Gavin Newsom, who previously held her position and who is also a flaming Covid hypocrite.

The Black Cat Nightclub’s Instagram page had posted, and then deleted, a photo showing Breed smiling and partying with friends maskless on Wednesday evening, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. She was accompanied by BLM co-founder Alicia Garza and singer Raphael Saadiq.

Breed’s moonbat rule is not conducive to liberty:

San Francisco’s mask mandate states, “Everyone, including people who are fully vaccinated, must wear a well-fitted mask in indoor public settings at all times,” and adds, “people may remove their well-fitted mask while actively eating or drinking.”

Or you can hang out with London Breed and a Marxist Black Lives Matter pooh-bah and not have to wear an obedience muzzle at all.

This isn’t the first time that Breed is being criticized for breaking her own coronavirus rules. She was spotted in the swanky French Laundry restaurant in November dining with seven other people to celebrate the birthday of a friend, socialite Goretti Lo Lui.

The French Laundry is the same extravagantly expensive restaurant where Gavin Newsom dined maskless indoors with lobbyists as Covid lockdowns drove any number of less connected restaurants out of business.

Please welcome London Breed to the DAISNAID files. If she continues to follow Newsom’s example, her next jobs will be Lieutenant Governor, then Governor of California. Then her tyranny and incompetence will subject her to a recall election, which the liberal establishment will guarantee fails.

San Francisco thinks it may have an answer for its rising gun violence problem: Paying people to not pull the trigger. …

The program, which will launch as a pilot in October, is called the Dream Keeper Fellowship. It’s San Francisco’s latest iteration of a guaranteed-income program that will provide high-risk individuals with $300 a month as a start.

In case $300/month isn’t enough,

Participants will be able to earn up to $200 more a month by hitting milestones in the program, such as landing a job interview, complying with probation or consistently meeting with a mentor.

As we have been learning in Afghanistan, putting liberals in positions of authority has consequences.

It’s being funded in part through the Dream Keeper Initiative, an effort from Mayor London Breed and Supervisor Shamann Walton to divert funding from law enforcement to the Black community.

Race riots bring more than fawning coverage from the media. They also bring cash. Just ask Patrisse Cullors.

“What we are talking about is saying we are going to invest resources in this 25-year-old who has eight previous arrests, who is on parole, who is a proud member of a neighborhood clique and who is not even seeking services,” [National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform Executive Director] Muhammad said.

Muhammad says this is “what you have to do in order to reduce gun violence.” Democrats have to pretend to be doing something to fight the skyrocketing crime they caused with their Black Lives Matter antipolice lunacy. They don’t yet have the political leverage to confiscate firearms from the law-abiding, although that is certainly on the horizon.

If they ever reverse course and start cracking down on violent criminals, it won’t be in San Francisco, where the DA is the openly pro-criminal Chesa Boudin, offspring of Weather Underground terrorists.

No wonder the feds are inflating our currency. Liberal governance is so expense, no matter how confiscatory the tax rates, more money will always be needed. In San Francisco, the city so liberal it sends Nancy Pelosi to Congress, new trash cans will cost $12,000 to $20,000 apiece.

Existing cans are regarded as hideous, are usually overflowing, and allow the derelicts that progressive policies have drawn to San Francisco in vast numbers to break into them to root for recyclables, in the process spreading trash all over for the rats to play in. Some recyclers find it convenient to pull out the bin and dump the whole mess on the sidewalk, which in San Francisco is often smeared with human waste anyway.

When mass-produced, the cost per can will drop to an estimated $2,000 to $3,000. Still, supervisors balked at the price to get there.

Nonetheless, a committee of the Board of Supervisors has agreed to a pilot program to test out the new cans. Since it took the bureaucrats in Public Works 3 years to come up with a prototype, they don’t want to delay any further.

The city worked with a designer on a custom trash can, hence the outlandish cost. The old cans cost $1,218 apiece back in 2018. Who knows what the next batch will cost in 2024 or so?

Public Works is asking supervisors to approve spending $537,000 from $840,000 on reserve to cover design costs for 15 trash cans, 10 garbage carts with wheels that go inside the stationary can, management, some existing trash can models and contingency money for unknown costs.

They might have gone with a model already in use somewhere else and saved a fortune, but local taxpayers don’t mind being looted, or they already would have escaped the area.

No matter how much they spend, trash all over the place will continue to be a problem, for local cultural reasons. As Lower Haight resident Marian Chatfield-Taylor observes,

“You could ask Frank Lloyd Wright to design a trash can, but if you don’t care whether (your street) is clean or dirty, you won’t put it in the trash can.”

The payments are scheduled to last for six months in total, according to The San Francisco Chronicle.

“Rooted in a historically marginalized community” means that this guy likely does not qualify; he needs to also identify as nonwhite:

In nearby Oakland, you only get $500/month free money, but you don’t have to identify as an artist; you just have to be nonwhite. Whites get taxed to pay for it though.

The program, which was designed to provide support during the pandemic, is open to artists working in a number of different mediums — including music, dance, creative writing, visual art, performance art, installation, photography, theater, and film.

San Francisco is paying $16.1 million to feed and house people in tent villages as the city struggles with a swelling homeless population. …

The 262 tents currently house more than 300 people, with some vacancies. The villages also provide access to bathrooms, meals and 24-hour security…

The residents are not provided with butlers, although they ought to be, for $5,121 per month per tent. Most people pay much less for their mortgages.

These days, paying people $147 per day (based on 300 people) to be homeless is nothing:

The funding is only a fraction of the more than $300 million the city spends annually on homeless services, and the average cost per night is less than what the city pays under a program to shelter homeless people in hotels…

However, the tent city is more controversial, because it is not eligible for federal reimbursement. It is better to waste money belonging to people far away in other parts of the country, who won’t see what it is being spent on when they step in the consequences.
