Crash and Burn

After months on end of over-the-top viciousness, Trump supporters now demand that conservatives join them in support of the presumptive Republican nominee on the grounds that Shrillary is supposedly even worse.

Not going to happen.

An authoritarian progressive has hijacked conservatives’ party with all the good will of Mohamed Atta. If the mob of Kool Aid–guzzling cretins who helped him do it think conservatives will now obediently fall into line behind them while they fly the plane 9/11 style at what is left of America’s founding principles, they are even more delusional than I thought. Far better for the plane to go down in Shanksville.

Principled conservatives are still the base of the Republican Party. Without their support, Trump will lose all 50 states by wide margins, which will be preferable to letting an enemy within take over our party. This Alexander Hamilton quote has been getting a lot of mileage lately:

“If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures.”

The angry mob called for massive destruction. In November they will get it. These wicked fools deserve to crash and burn, and they will.

Then the long job of rebuilding can begin, after the GOP has been purged of people who oppose the limited government principles that are its reason for being.

The only alternative is letting the GOP die while we start a new party.

Flight 93 left us with a lesson.

  1. Exactly. Really glad to have sites like this that didn’t sell their conservative souls for 30 pieces of (fake) Trump silver. You and RedState are two that come to mind that did the right thing. I hope that Fox, Palin, Coulter, etc. feel the pain quickly.

  2. Dolan Tump says:

Here’s what has been said to me so far for simply saying I won’t be voting for Hillary or Trump…

“Guess you were a Liberal all along.”

“Awwww…because little babies like you are going to cry and go home because Trump won? How PATHETIC.
You make me sick to my stomach. Grow up you fvcking baby.”

“We don’t need you, I’m sure your first preference was Jeb. Your getting holes on your jeans from being on your knees your whole life. Stand up”

“You are too much of purist! Sorry your boy got defeaTED!
Get on board the TRUMP TRAIN.”

  3. grayjohn says:

    Conservatives have no party.

  4. Jethro Harris says:

There was an election that happened in history where folks were in a similar situation. You had a candidate who was a stiff nationalist pitted up against two candidates that folks decried “anyone but!”.

Anyone but Ernst Thälmann of the Communist Party!!
Anyone but Otto Wels of the Social Democratic Party!!

These were the country’s choices to pick from. Between a man that campaigned on his love for his country, how he would build up his country’s defense. How, even if the government had to force it, would make business to start producing again. How he would make his country great again. This man, verses a communist and a socialist. Study some history. “Anyone but…” has been the war cry to the world’s most darkest times.

Nothing good has ever come from “voting against”, but only “voting for”. If Trump wasn’t good enough for a primary vote, he’s doesn’t deserve the general election vote because currently he is less evil looking. The world has been down this road before.

  5. J.j. Cintia says:

You fake conservatives can SUCK IT. You all lined up for Mitt Romney and McCain, but not for Trump? Why? Cause he’s an American that cares about America and doesn’t plan spending four years sending Americans to fight thousands of miles away while their families are murdered and raped by the gardeners and peon slaves of the Rich, that’s why. We were born free and you’ll die before we lose that Right SUCKER!

  10. Auburn Rapunzel says:

And now you know how I’ve felt for many a recent election.

I’ll let you get along without an apology, though. I’m just that kind of nice person.

  11. Christmas Ape says:

If the Libertarians get even 10% of the vote, it may be the start of a new political era in the US.

  12. calmly_observing says:

Sorry. The was NO hijacking. Conservatives did this to us all. Especially the elected class. Conservative voters have been desperate for a change. The Tea Party formed primarily as a way to formalize it without falling into the status quo political games trap. Throw in the fire stoking from conservative pundits, especially talk radio, and the explosion was bound to happen. The elected class has been playing conservatives for suckers for 20+ years. That’s why spending never changes, for starters.

So the revolution was inevitable. The sad thing is neither side – conservative voters nor the elected class – got what they wanted. We got the revolution. But the leader of the revolution was not who they wanted, and the results will not be what they wanted. The groundwork was laid, but the politicians and the voters lost control.

  13. Occam's Stubble says:

You all lined up for Mitt Romney and McCain, but not for Trump? Why?

Because he thinks health care and education are in the top three responsibilities of government. Because he said he would make deals with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. Because he gave money to Hillary Clinton and invited her to his wedding. Because he thinks the best way to get Mexico to pay for the wall is by extorting them. Because he supports touch back amnesty. Because he can’t quote anything from the Bible. Because he’s big on what but not big on how.

Despite their disgusting RINO-ness, Romney and McCain were at least better than that. They could at least fake being a conservative. Trump doesn’t even bother. He throws out red meat and his followers eat it up.

That said, I will support him in the fall because while I truly don’t know what Trump will do, I know that Hillary is unacceptable.

  14. Occam's Stubble says:

    Didn’t Ross Perot get 20%?

  15. Occam's Stubble says:

To be fair, if Cruz had pulled it out, we would be asking Trumpkins to come back into the fold.

  16. Christmas Ape says:

True, but I’m thinking we may get a better political party to replace the current mess of the GOP

  17. Occam's Stubble says:

I doubt the Libertarians are ready for such an influx. I think the current mess of the GOP needs to be replaced from within. I’m going to my state convention next week and I’ll see if there’s a way to get started.

  18. kerri says:

    Gotta do it !
I know what Hillary will do.

  20. Jethro Harris says:

The last time I held my nose and pulled the lever was with McCain. That was the last year I pledged allegiance to the Republican party, and corrected myself to pledge allegiance to the Constitution from there on in. I’ve just hoped that the republican party would be able to possibly produce a candidate I can vote for in the general election. This just isn’t true

  21. J.j. Cintia says:

That’s hilarious Mr. Spork. Lemme tell ya, Boehner was Speaker and couldn’t get Pelosi to deal, he was spineless. Schumer had Rubio signing his bill and maybe cleaning his pool too. Quote the Holy Bible all ya want but yer boy Cruzzie was laying with whores at a DC Whorehouse and there are phone logs to prove it. All your high hat and high faluting talk ain’t done shit, pardner. Abortion is the head of the list on election day, and doesn’t even hit the floor on C-SPAN 2. Kiss my ass, with those excuses you must get into a lot of trouble and stay there. The GOP has been conserving nothing. The economy is dead, we’re openly invaded from the Rio Grande and Obummer is flying ISIS next door and Crying Ryan still ain’t done SHIT!

  22. Occam's Stubble says:

So of course the solution is to nominate a NY liberal.

  23. Gene says:

Several times in my life I’ve taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution. I took when I joined the Marines and several times since as an attorney. That oath I first took almost 30 years ago still means something to me. It’s why I could never vote for Hillary or Bernie Sanders. It’s also why, if the election were held today, I could not vote for Trump. Everything I have seen up to now has confirmed that he is a despicable, arrogant, fool, who is wholly undeserving to hold the office of president (like the one we have had for the last 7+ years). He’s shown himself incapable of listening to anyone but himself (and has said so). He was a liberal a year ago and still hasn’t explained why he changed. He doesn’t understand foreign policy, and just blames others when it shows. He’s a serial adulterer worse than Clinton, who cheated on his wife but stayed married to her. Etc. Etc. Trump says he will change, but I will believe it if and when he does. But until he does, until he explains when and why he became a conservative, until he convinces me that he will honor and abide by the Constitution and defend our rights and liberty rather than simply issuing edits (such as ordering the military to commit war crimes, and expecting them to obey simply because he said so), until he acts like someone who should be president, I cannot vote for him.

  24. Torcer says:

A couple of points that need to be made:
    1. First of all the polling and analysis shows that Donner and his party will be eviscerated in the general election.

Nate Silver: Trump Has About 5% Chance Of Winning | Video | RealClearPolitics

    2. As soon as the national socialist media begins their onslaught against him, what once was an advantage to him in the primaries will be come a liability in the general election.

    And here we go…

  25. Ahoy says:

Stop with your Trump derangement syndrome David. We know Hillary is going to be a disaster and so will Bernie. The best course now is for the party to get behind Trump and support him for the win. Then the party can influence his decisions.

Either way you and the rest of the Trump haters need to get over your but hurt.

  26. Johnny Monday says:

The stand against Trump is a principled one. There is no way those of us with principles will now back Trump.

  27. Johnny Monday says:

Populism is not always a good thing. Look up the Reign of Terror.

  28. BobSykes says:

The Republican Party has always been a center/left party, and it has always had a Progressive wing. Trump is a perfectly good Republican of the Northeast type. The so-called principled opposition to him is a childish temper tantrum.

Trump will beat Clinton, who is a very weak candidate. Vote for Trump, and you get a moderate. Walk away, and you put another socialist in power.

  29. J.j. Cintia says:

Liberal in general you mean. In New York this guy might as well be a fascist for having the temerity to build something and make money.
It took almost a Century for the Left to Fuck Up America. Are you expecting a Savior to come and fix it all in four years? After getting nothing since Reagan left, I’d think any step right of Lenin would be preferable to the Zoo Crew in Socialist Fantasy Land next door.
You know, these crazy fuckers are talking about a Guaranteed Minimum Income for people even if they don’t work at all! Holy Shit but there is no end to crazy on the Left! Trump is Light Years from that in Colonel Sanders Fantasy World.

  30. Owen says:

Good lord what a bunch of overwrought hysterics. You do realize the “it’s either our guy or the Democrat” tactic is exactly what led to this in the first place, don’t you? Plenty of people held their noses and voted for whatever the GOP trotted out, election after election, with nothing to show for it. I don’t know why you bemoan the death of the GOP. It is the most deserved expiration imaginable.

  31. CTsOpinion says:

    You are easily fooled.

  32. CTsOpinion says:

    Not going to happen.

  33. JohnCalla says:

There is no sense talking about the Constitution and limited government and conservatism as long as the nation continues to be invaded by third-worlders. The oligarchy has totally done an end-run around the Constitution and everything else, so arguing about the Constitution is like tilting at windmills. If you read carefully between the lines, Scalia pretty much said what we all know: the Constitution is dead.

I think Trump is a total clown and I probably won’t vote, but he’s the only one talking about the only issue that matters right now (immigration). This is the GOP’s fault. They had decades to field a candidate who took the most primary issues facing our nation seriously, but they decided to sneer at the populace. They created a void and Trump filled it.

  34. JohnCalla says:

We conservatives went out and did our duty and voted to give Congress the mandate to oppose Obama’s agenda. Instead they decided to grab their ankles and take everything Obama wanted to give.

Now the Republican Congress has given us the highest federal budget ever. And people are still talking about “limited government” like it’s a legit voting issue rather than the rainbow unicorn that it is.

  35. Buffalobob says:

Damn, the moonbattery being expressed by the never Trump crazies leads me to believe they might just be die in the wool Hillary/Obama voters.

  36. Dolan Tump says:

    I wouldn’t

  37. define “always”…and while you’re at it, define “perfectly good Republican of the Northeast type”.

  38. I’m confused – illegal immigration has been a political topic for the past 40 years. How did Trump manage to be handed the credit for being the sole candidate in favor of our national security?

  39. Pyrran says:

So, we have a choice between a Cheeto-faced narcissist and a power mad criminal.
    Some choice.

  40. Pyrran says:

You left out the third disaster-Trump.
    Hillary is Obama 2

Of the two, I might have to pick the devil I know over the devil I don’t.
I can’t vote for Trump because his volatility actually scares me.

We still have a little time left, not much but a little.
    Maybe things will clear up.

  41. JohnCalla says:

Please list the presidential candidates of the past 40 years that have campaigned on promises to end illegal immigration, deport illegal aliens, build a border wall, curtail work visas and halt the Muslim invasion.

I’m sure this will be some list.

  42. dude! your man won the primary. calm down, before you blow a seal. just relax, keep repeating the mantra: make America great…make America great….hope and change…make America great…

  43. Pyrran says:

That is an awfully large collection of morons you have there.

  45. Lobotomist says:

    Extremely easily I’d say.

  46. 762x51 says:

    3. Wicked fools
..and he’s supposed to be an intellect? Call me when Hilary Diane Clinton appoints two new Supreme court justices and then comes for your firearms. Eight years of her and America will be a distant memory. There is a ton of denial on this blog.
There is already talk of positioning Rubio for 2012, now there’s a revolution or maybe just revolting?

Insults are the first refuge of people who lost.

  55. Brigadon says:

Your principles will allow you to lose, again, to the unprincipled. The same way ‘conservatives’ have been losing for the last 150 years.

Me, the survival of my country is too important to retreat into claims that my ‘principles’ prohibited me from opposing evil in the form of Hillary. If I get punched in the face too often, I will eventually pound the guy, whether or not I oppose violence on principle.

    Gary ‘who?’ is a loser.

  56. Brigadon says:

except that Trump is not going to eviscerate the constitution you swore to protect. Hillary already has.

There is nothing in the constitution that opposes what Trump suggests. I hate to have to tell you this, but torture of foreign spies is absolutely NOT prohibited by the constitution.

If you allow a criminal like Hillary into the white house by voting for anyone but trump, you will be willfully violating your oath because she has proven willing and able to damage the constitution.

For anyone that has taken their oath seriously, the choice is Clear. You either vote for Trump, or you take up arms against Hillary.

  57. Brigadon says:

Bubba Woodman, for Hackinsack Arkansas, said he would ‘chase them for’ners out of town’ if he were elected as president of the local lion’s club charter.

    I think that’s about it.

  60. Brigadon says:

    honorless scum.

  61. Brigadon says:

That’s true. anti-trumpists are bullying the crap out of the republicans that decided Trump was their man.

  62. Lobotomist says:

It can’t form compete sentences, you cannot expect it to do research or even to be able to read.

  63. 762x51 says:

Do what I do, offer to shoot them in the face.

  64. 762x51 says:

No, you weren’t wrong. Trumpanzees are Progressives and therefore leftists, just like their candidate. Look at the extensive use of Alinsky Rules they have perpetrated on MB alone for the last year. tRump IS Clinton and his army of winged monkeys ARE Obama zombies.

Conservatives are the only members of the right, and they didn’t support tRump. The defining characteristic of the tRump campaign has been the “you’re with us or we will destroy you” attitude and tactic. Only Progressives behave that way and the tRump Trolls prove who they are with every post.

Standing against the fascistic tyranny they seek to implement, that is what that behavior is called when it comes from a political group, is what I do. I offer Trumpettes mutual combat to the death when they try their intimidation routine. Like any bully, they are brave in a group but run screaming when challenged to single combat to the death. We must be willing to engage them on the battlefield, it is the only way to rid ourselves of the Progressives from both parties.

  65. JeffersonSpinningInGrave says:

Some are. Some groups have labeled Trump supporters traitors to be ostracized. But, on average, I see many critics of Trump making reasoned arguments, starting with facts, and being answered by Trump supporters with ad hominem attacks. Not that I’ve never seen that from those on the right, but it’s much more consistent with what I would expect to face on Think Progress or Democratic Underground.

Cruz has his true believers, no doubt. But it seems to me that the fire of the zealot burns much hotter among those who favor Trump. It worries me, because that kind of sentiment all too often enables authoritarianism, the rule of a strong leader rather than rule of law. It’s how Obama has (often illegally) governed, and Obama has set some dangerous precedents.

If Trump gets elected, I think many Proggies may regret those precedents in the short term. But, in the long run, pushing for a series of dictatorial-style Presidents (and I fear Trump may be of that mold) can have only one outcome in the long run.

  66. Brigadon says:

You act like authoritarianism is automatically a bad thing.

  67. JeffersonSpinningInGrave says:

    I believe it very firmly.

In the long run, authority will always be abused. Always.

The argument that, “it’s cool, this guy is OUR monster” does not comfort me. Even if it is true, the next monster won’t be.

  68. Brigadon says:

Yes, we deal with the next monster when it comes.

The point is, you have to have upward mobility. As long as you have constant upward mobility, Authority CANNOT be abused.
Yes, I want ‘free trade’ within the confines of the united states. And I want heavy duties on foreign imports to bring their pricing in line with local products.

Doing this, as well as protecting something the size of a country, REQUIRES a line of authority. It is a necessary evil. But as long as the pool from which that authority can be drawn is constantly refreshing, the Authority can never become too onerous.

That was the original plan behind the presidency… but the founding fathers never realized that television could lead to lines of dynasty. The original plan of presidency accounted for ‘steal the china when I leave’ of a president wrecking the country in his lame duck, by having the vice president of the opposing party, but some bright boy changed that in the mid 1800’s and in so doing, assured both dynasty and lame duck.

The killed the republic. But republics always die eventually.

  69. Brigadon says:

btw, that fire you see? That’s not the fire of the true believer. Far from it.
    That’s rage.
