What a relief; Congressional Democrats are at least more sensible than the voters who elected Biden. They know that someone that irresponsible not to mention non compos mentis cannot be trusted with the capacity to launch a nuclear strike. Given Biden’s nasty disposition, he might set off a nuclear war in a disoriented fit of pique.

Politico reports:

Nearly three dozen House Democrats on Monday called on Biden to relinquish his sole authority to launch nuclear weapons, in the latest appeal to reform the command-and-control structure so that no single person can initiate a nuclear war.

The way things stand now, Joe Biden all on his own could have Armageddon underway in a matter of minutes.

They offer a number of alternatives, including requiring other officials in the line of succession, such as the vice president and the speaker of the House — “neither of whom can be removed by the president if they disagree — to concur with a launch order.”

With grownups like Kamala Harris and Nancy Pelosi potentially involved, I feel safer already.

As Ed Morrissey points out, the idea of not allowing a single person to launch a strike is not necessarily a bad one. However, Congress is characteristically going about it wrong. Congress could pass a law requiring the president to obtain approval before launching a strike…

That makes more sense if one is concerned not just about one particular president but all presidents. If all that this letter produces is an internal policy change requiring three fingers on the button, it might only last as long as this particular presidency does.

However, Congress doesn’t like taking responsibility. It prefers to focus on omnibus pork fest spending blowouts and politically motivated impeachment spectacles, and leave running the government to the executive branch and the vast, faceless, unelected bureaucracy that perpetually expands beneath it.
