EPA Cracks Down on Key Ingredient of Bread

In a frenzy to inflict maximum tyranny before Obama leaves office, the EPA is now targeting bread:

The proposed regulation published Wednesday would make the emissions standards for industrial yeast makers much more strict. …

The cost of complying with the upgraded standards could be passed down to consumers. The yeast manufacturers must install a number of new monitoring technologies under the proposal to track the amount of hazardous pollutants that are being emitted to significantly control them. …

The agency calculated that the total annualized costs for meeting the proposed emission rules would be $172,000 per year. The estimated per-year compliance costs range from $16,000 to $109,000 per facility, which EPA brushed off as minimal.

The bureauweenies would feel differently if the cost came out of their budgets, instead of being dispersed throughout the general population, which is also forced to pay their salaries — though hopefully we will be paying fewer of them in the future.

BTW, the EPA is imposing this regulation because it “lost” a lawsuit to the Sierra Club. The EPA is complicit in these sweetheart suits. The lawsuits have been driving environmental law rather than the Legislative Branch, which would face retaliation from voters if it tried to inflict a hardcore enviroleftist agenda. Our freedom and our bank accounts are under assault by an Axis of Evil consisting of leftist activist nonprofits, leftist activist regulatory agencies, and our leftist activist courts.

Offensive to the environment.

On a tip from Jester.

“Agencies” do not come up with these regulations, people do, the people who are employed by these agencies. (Notice I didn’t say “work for these agencies.”?) The names of these people should be attached to the regulation in question so the electorate could engage in meaningful discussion with them.

Burn the EPA to the ground, salt the ashes, and make the former employees do an environmental impact statement on the process.

And, don’t forget, this affects beer too…

Lefties have been waging war on air and water; why not bread?

Oh my Lord, are you kidding me?!? When will it stop. They’ve already proven that the global warming scam was just that, a scam. Did these fools not get the memo or do they just not care? We need to start roughing up the employees of this ill gotten organization.

The world is too safe, too clean. And too much disposable income. Peasants must be relieved of that burden. For our own good of course.

  12. Mr. Freemarket says:

    When will it stop?

There is no logical stopping point. And that’s the point. They will not stop until they have legislated and regulated every item of your life, and then they will legislate and regulate some more.

  13. Mr. Freemarket says:

Very few sodas are fermented. Most of the time, liquid CO2 is injected.

Next up, the EPA bans farting… Which also may contain methane,…

They’ll also be holding secret hearings on banning breathing out…

It will stop when the totalitarians behind it are stopped. Totalitarianism has only been stopped one way throughout all of human history, by force of arms, there simply is no other way.

  18. 762x51 says:

Thus the term “Progressive”, it NEVER stops, of it’s own volition.

Everyone who thinks it won’t be passed down to consumers raise your hand.

Pretty much tells you who to target, doesn’t it?

There is only one reason why this regulation wouldn’t get rescinded the afternoon of Jan. 20th, 2017. That would be because the new President agrees with it. If tRump were serious, he would make a very short speech, then have a stack of EO’s ready to sign while still standing on the inauguration platform, revoking all of Obama’s EO’s, placing all federal regulations issued in the last 180 days on hold for further review, ordering the DHS to proceed immediately with border wall building that is already in the law, ordering Border Patrol to immediately begin actively enforcing existing law, etc.

Ohh the time to put up or shut up is rapidly approaching.

  21. Mr. Freemarket says:

    Well said.

  22. 762x51 says:

Air, water and now bread are all staples of life. They are, essentially infrastructure necessary for life to continue. These targets, much like a countries industrial infrastructure or oil producing infrastructure are merely a means to an end. In war, you either control or destroy the enemies ability to make war by destroying his infrastructure, resources and people. In Afghanistan for example, they have no industrial capacity or natural resources, they only have people willing to fight. Americas mistake there has been to refuse to destroy their capacity for making war by destroying the only “resource” they had capable of it which is their population.

Progressives are not waging war on air, water, health care, food, etc, they are waging war on life itself. Their diseased ideology requires them to control everything and to destroy that which they cannot control. Like their Islamic allies, Progressives are waging a war of annihilation against all humanity. Unlike war for treasure, land, revenge, etc, you cannot negotiate an end to a war of annihilation unless there is some level of annihilation you believe will be acceptable to you.

The enemy sets the terms of the engagement, you have to play until they stop, not until you want to stop.

  23. Jerryskids says:

Well said. It’s a religion with these folks so reason, logic, economics, common sense, the law – none of that matters and you can’t argue with them on those bases. They worship Mother Gaia and see human beings as a cancer upon the Earth. Forget the Industrial Revolution being the worst sin of humanity, the act of switching from hunter/gatherer to agricultural societies was the Original Sin they’re bound and determined to expunge. But not before every man, woman, and child on the planet is punished in full as atonement for that sin.

  24. Eddie_Valiant says:

No agency has a Constitutional right to issue regulations that carry the weight of law. This is, in my untrained mind, a clear violation of the Tenth Amendment that limits the Federal gubmint’s authority.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

I may not be a Constitutional scholar, but the meaning seems fairly clear.

  25. alanstorm says:

“The [hazardous pollutant] emitted by nutritional yeast manufacturing facilities is acetaldehyde, a probable carcinogen,”

Probable? How about you PROVE it first? Then calculate the dangerous dose?

THEN (and only then) do something about it, ASSUMING anything at all is required?

  26. Michael Onoo says:

They have already regulated cow farts in California

  27. tex says:

    “Are you serious?”
    –Nancy Pelosi

  28. JTW says:

they’ve muddied the waters by making it so the agency is under control of people appointed by elected officials, THEREFORE it’s an elected body by their logic, and THEREFORE it can pass laws without congressional oversight because after all, congress put them in those jobs THEREFORE they’ve got congressional approval for all they do…

It’s insiduous, but that’s how the reasoning goes.

  29. Momster says:

Yes, folks. The EPA is literally trying to take the bread out of our mouths.

  30. Momster says:

    Homemade root beer, mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

  31. Momster says:

    Ho ho ho.

  32. Momster says:

Is that why the EPA turned that river orange with pollution?

  33. Momster says:

And whatever they submit will be rejected as being incorrect or incomplete. Over and over for all eternity.

  34. SNuss says:

I would consider legislation that bans Leftists from speaking as they exhale a positive step.

  35. Gentry says:

Wish Trump would do away with the EPA, DHS, Department.of Agriculture, Department of Education, OSHA and get us out of the UN. Walking Tall comes to mind for Congress and Senate. Cut their expense accounts out.

  36. AJ says:

And the tyranny of an out-of-control federal government marches on with yet another new regulation designed to extort from the citizens the product of their labor. Superfluous government agencies such as EPA exist solely to steal the hard-earned resources of the citizens, while these same bureaucrats falsely claim the moral justification of “protecting the environment”.

I read recently that employee morale at EPA has never been lower due to the election of The Donald.

Why do I feel no sympathy for these petty tyrants?

  37. Bosun Higgs says:

Just trying to add a little leavening, er levity to the discussion.

And that is why it is “home-made.”

Brewing is always more time-consuming than is an assembly line.

But soooooo worth the wait! The bst aing soda pop on earth! Every other root beer has paled in comparison. A cold homemade root beer and a fluffer-nutter sitting on the porch outshines a gourmet meal in a fancy restaurant by 1000 to 1.

  44. Momster says:

    Very yeasty.

  45. Mr. Freemarket says:

Apparently you live in a place with limited restaurant choices.

  46. Momster says:

Teee heeeee…Unless you live in NYC, I believe my area might have way more restaurants of many types than your area.

  47. Mr. Freemarket says:

If your homemade root beer is 1000 times better……
    1000 times?
    Get out much?

  48. […] …Moonbattery: Meanwhile, the EPA also wants to fundamentally change bread […]

  49. Momster says:

I would give more than $1, 000 for another glass of dad’s root beer and a fluffer-nutter made by mom.
