HOA Issues Fine Over Shape Left by Parked Car

In the age of microaggressions, it is easy to exert power over others by being offended, especially since the offended have the final say in what is offensive, and intent is irrelevant. This even applies outside the realm of political correctness. For example, someone in Tennessee took offense after the outline left in the snow where a car had been parked reminded them of male genitalia. The homeowner association responded with a $100 dollar fine.

Kathryn [last name withheld] was shocked to find an email in her inbox notifying her that she’d been fined $100 because her car had violated the HOA’s rules on “displaying offensive images or slogans.”

The HOA had photographic evidence. Snow continuing to fall covered the tire tracks on the cooler pavement that had not been sheltered by the car, leaving a shape that someone with salacious preoccupations could find suggestive.

“Your car, specifically the Honda, left this offensive image on the ground after you left,” the email read. “I believe you will see why we have had complaints about it. One of our residents took the photo and reported it to us out of concern for our younger residents.”

Fortunately, Kathryn got the HOA to back down without calling in an expensive lawyer. Pushback against the repressively offended is always appropriate.
