John Coleman, RIP

It is a sad day for meteorology. Beloved weatherman John Coleman has passed away, probably as a result of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Coleman is well known for founding The Weather Channel and helping make Good Morning America a success. He is even better known for pulling back the curtain on the global warming hoax. Here he is in action, via Climate Depot:

On tips from Bodhisattva and Stormfax.

Interesting that Kelly suggests the weather channel might now lose his license because they do not support global climate change. Such ignorance is sometimes painful; no one licenses the weather Channel.

I was ignorant too. I thought all stations had to be licensed by the FCC. You need a license to have a lemonade stand but not a broadcast license for a weather channel. Who knew?

Cable TV can originate anywhere, and the signal is transmitted by privately operated satellites and copper or fiber optic cables. Satellite frequencies are not considered to be owned “by the people” like the broadcast frequencies are so no license for the content providers is necessary.

my son is a thirty something True Believer of the Church of Global Warming. Not even this great man could convince him that humankind’s contribution to climate change is minuscule and less than the noise factor in the data. But then, he works in Minnecrapolis the cesspool of liberalism that also brought us a trainload of moo slimes to disrupt our lives.

  5. ICEvictim says:

the satellite operators do have to have a license for the uplink and downlink frequencies they use but it is not like the old days of broadcast TV.

  6. Grumpy Cat says:

Very sorry to hear that. Just keep in mind that in the end, children always come around to their parents beliefs.

  7. ICEvictim says:

one can only hope but that entire generation was poisoned by the school system despite my best intentions and he has to go along with his employment peer class or move to a different career.

The Weather Channel is not a “broadcast channel.” (Just like NBC is not a broadcast channel). The Weather Channel provides content to broadcast and cable channels. It is the broadcast channels (like your local NBC affiliate) that is licensed by the FCC.

  10. Eddie_Valiant says:

That’s correct. That type of license is for technical reasons and has no impact on content. Maybe it’s time to review that.

I want to thank you guys for educating me about this. I never thought about it nor has it ever been brought up in my experience. You have explained it well. Now my question is: do the bureaucrats and agencies know they missed taxing and regulating something? Shhhhh. They’re listening.
