Justice Department Goes After Harvard Racism

A degree from Harvard is pricey, but it is worth a lot on the job market — unless you are black or Hispanic. Then it’s worth less, thanks to Affirmative Action. You might have deserved that degree as much as anyone else, but how are employers going to know that, when 45% of blacks and Hispanics are accepted for their race rather than merit?

PJ Media reports on a brief filed by the Justice Department:

The brief says Harvard “considers applicants’ race at virtually every step, from rating applicants to winnowing the field of applicants when attempting to avoid an oversubscribed class.” It notes that forty-five percent of African-Americans and Hispanics at Harvard are there because of racial preferences given to them during the admissions process.

Whites aren’t the only ones who are systematically discriminated against in favor of politically preferred groups. Admissions officers keep Asians out by giving them low subjective personal ratings.

The Justice Department brief also noted that Harvard employs a consistent racial quota to admit applicants to the class in essentially the same percentages, year after year.

Harvard’s racist quotas — which educrats no doubt justify with Orwellian rhetoric about combatting racism — are illegal.

Federal law, Title VI, forbids schools that receive federal assistance from discriminating based on race. Harvard expressly agreed to comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a civil-rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in programs and activities that receive any federal financial assistance.

Despite being private institutions with a combined endowment of $119 billion, Ivy League schools like Harvard rake in $billions per year from the federal government.
