Mad Tea Party at the White House

The wretched excess of the Louis XVI-esque Obama Regime turns out to be even more surreal than we knew:

A White House “Alice in Wonderland” costume ball — put on by Johnny Depp and Hollywood director Tim Burton — proved to be a Mad-as-a-Hatter idea that was never made public for fear of a political backlash during hard economic times, according to a new tell-all.

“The Obamas,” by New York Times correspondent Jodi Kantor, tells of the first Halloween party the first couple feted at the White House in 2009. It was so over the top that “Star Wars” creator George Lucas sent the original Chewbacca to mingle with invited guests.

At least, they say it was the original Chewbacca.

The book reveals how any official announcement of the glittering affair — coming at a time when Tea Party activists and voters furious over the lagging economy, 10-percent unemployment rate, bank bailouts and Obama’s health-care plan were staging protests — quickly vanished down the rabbit hole.

“White House officials were so nervous about how a splashy, Hollywood-esque party would look to jobless Americans — or their representatives in Congress, who would soon vote on health care — that the event was not discussed publicly and Burton’s and Depp’s contributions went unacknowledged,” the book says.

Our benevolent rulers care so much about us bitter clingers, they staged phony festivities to keep us happy.

[T]he White House made certain that more humble Halloween festivities earlier that day — for thousands of Washington-area schoolkids — were well reported by the press corps.

Then the Obamas went inside, where an invitation-only affair for children of military personnel and White House administrators unfolded in the East Room.

Meanwhile, where the public that pays for the Obamas’ frivolous extravagances couldn’t see:

Unbeknownst to reporters, the State Dining Room had also been transformed into a secretive White House Wonderland.

The setup was as tasteful as one of Michelle Obama’s ensembles:

“Fruit punch was served in blood vials at the bar. Burton’s own Mad Hatter, the actor Johnny Depp, presided over the scene in full costume, standing up on a table to welcome everyone in character.”

Depp should have stayed on as a cabinet member. He certainly has the America-hating credentials.

When an adolescent, obviously unqualified ultra-Left community organizer was elected President on the strength of having black skin and a name like a terrorist, many Americans suspected we had crossed through to the other side of the looking glass. Those suspicions have now been confirmed.

The White House, fundamentally transformed.

Look at that picture: Washington in a nutshell…

  2. Fiberal says:

BO was part of America’s ongoing investment in skin color.

So just add the cost of that party to the other costs of this less-than-wise investment and you get:

    2 million more unemployed Americans
    17% increase in unemployment rate
    gas prices up 85%
    federal debt up 39%
Debt per person up $12,316 (and rising)
    Misery index up 65%
    Food stamp recipients up 41%
    Health Insurance Premiums up 23%
    Home values down 11%
U.S. global competitiveness down to 5th place.
Americans in poverty up 6.4 million.

As this “A**holes in Wonderland” party shows, putting BO & his democrats in charge of the country is the same as opening a cage of wild monkeys in the oval office.

(Ironically, I will lay odds that BO has never read the book.)

Geez the Obama blowing millions for frivolous parties? Can you say Ghetto rich, anyone? With M’chelle blowing ridiculous bills for her “snacks”, this is not in the least surprising. In fact, expect to see a lot more of these “discoveries”.

Since stanWE and his sock insist… much ado about nothing…as usual.

It was so over the top that “Star Wars” creator George Lucas sent the original Chewbacca to mingle with invited guests.

    2009 White House Halloween

There’s Chewbacca and a storm trooper, outside with Obama.

Oh right, of course, the kids outside the White House were “invited guests” and having people in costume on halloween is over the top.

  12. blue says:

yes Lao, Chewy was there for the OUTSIDE party reported on by the press……what the book reveals is the over the top INSIDE party, entertaining only the Obama’s, not reported on by the press……

  13. StanInTexas says:

LaoZee, I cannot imagine someone other than you being so paranoia and so utterly clueless as to think all of your opposition on this board is the owrk of one person and a bunch of sock-puppets. Clearly becasue you go there so quickly in an impotent attempt to difflect blame, that it is YOU that employs sock-puppets often.

Having costumed characters for a halloween party is standard all over the country. What is NOT standard is getting them directly from George Lucas or Tim Burton. And that is after beign lectured to about sacrificing.

  14. Jess says:

Lao (my a## off at you) took the bait, hook, line, & sinker. Heh.

BTW, here’s your youtube link description: The President and First Lady host trick-or-treating at a Halloween party for local schoolchildren, military families and White House staff. October 31, 2009.

And as I & others have pointed out, this is the party after that… but hey, keep up the good work!

  17. J says:

Come on now lao, we all need to sacrifice.

Well, at least those of us who can’t afford to host Johnny Depp in his Mad Hatter costume from Alice, and have George Lucas send over the original Chewbacca costume ought to sacrifice.

    Right, class warrior?

  18. lao says:

Then the Obamas went inside, where an invitation-only affair for children of military personnel and White House administrators unfolded in the East Room.

Look at the previously linked video that portrays some events INSIDE the East Room and note how Obama thanks staff and their children.

On the wall behind the kids is a painting of Washington.

Like I said, much ado about nothing.

  19. StanInTexas says:

LaoZee, you forgot the part where the President asked the media not to report the party. If this truly was “much ado about nothing”, then why the secrecy?

Oh, but do not let facts stand in your way of defending Obama from everything he does.

  20. blue says:

    “…much ado about nothing.”

kind of sums up the current administraion…….

  21. Festivus says:

The secret party was in the State Dining room.

  22. lao says:

StanWE, for someone so concerned with “the facts”, you are remarkably free of them.

Feel free to provide a link to “the part where the President asked the media not to report the party.”

  23. GoY says:

“… much ado about nothing…” Yet, the Obamas went out of their way to keep it out of the media.

    Pure coincidence.

Yardsale’s quotes are not attributable to Obama himself.

The following day, Johnny Depp’s fan website noted he and Burton attended the White House Halloween party.

  27. Doug says:

    Dear Mr Soros,
See, even though you have abandoned The One who has stopped the rise of the oceans and healed our planet, I will still defend my ‘other’ master to the death. How’s that for blind obedience? At least I’ve filled my quota of useless links for the day on that vile conservative website I love to hate, Moonbattery. So please pay me today in Nigerian naira.
    All my love,

  28. StanInTexas says:

    LaoZee, you are amazing.

So because the order to keep the internal party quite was not spoken by Obama on National television, it never occurred?

Tell me something LaoZee, how is it that EVERYTHING that occurred in Government diring the Bush Administration was Bush’s fault, but directives that come from the White House has nothing whatsoever to do with Obama. Is the man so incompetent that he cannot control what the Executive Branch does?

  29. Spider says:

You can bet on one thing. The First Ho, (a.k.a. thunder-thighs Michelle) didn’t mind the party info getting out. It simply gives her another chance to do what she loves doing, that being, to spit in the face of White America.

  30. Doug says:

    Dear Mr Soros,
Stan has again asked me a question I cannot answer directly because it will reveal my weakness. Tell me, do I implement Directive 3 again [any questions which come too close to revealing the truth should be deflected by changing the subject and pointing the finger back at the enemy]. Please hurry with your answer, otherwise all I can do is hurl puerile insults. It is fun to call him StanWE [tee hee!] so I might just do that anyway.

  31. Festivus says:

If the thing was acknowledged on Depp’s web site, then that would tend to indicate that the media was complicit in hushing it up since every other WH bash they’ve had has had wide media coverage.

  32. StanInTexas says:

Isn’t it amazing that the media will hush up a party like this because it might embarrass Obama. Yet when the Bush administration asked the media to please not publish intelligence reports that had during a time of war due to national security dangers, the media blew them off.

  33. Festivus says:

Stan, but Bush was evil and had to be stopped at all cost.

  34. Jess says:

“The following day, Johnny Depp’s fan website noted he and Burton attended the White House Halloween party”

Ah, no. It said (Google Cache is great for catching “change”) that they attended the “Event for Military Families”… zippo @ the event in question. Keep up the good work, though!

  35. StanInTexas says:

That’s right, Festivus. And it did not matter to the Left how many of our military personnel had to die in order for them to regain power.

The ends always justifys the means for those people.

  36. Festivus says:

    Good catch, Jess.

  37. Dina says:

Pics of Tim Burton & Johnny Depp at The White House Halloween 2009

  38. StanInTexas says:

Hey LaoZee, Looks like the White House is also making “much ado about nothing”.

  39. SR says:

@Kevin. Wow! Looks very expensive must be nice to be royalty.

  40. lao says:

Laugh on stanWE, they are responding to media reports they call “silly”…another way of saying “much ado about nothing”.

Meanwhile, we see links to lots more pictures of the event including one of the Obama family posing with Depp, Burton and “Alice”.

It’s kind of hard to claim a “cover-up” when they so obviously posed for a picture.

  41. StanInTexas says:

LaoZee, it is at all of interest to you that the party was held in 2009 and we are only now (January 2012) hearing about it.

Yes, they took pictures. Doesn’t mean those pictures were released.

  42. Festivus says:

Where were the news stories on the event (the secret one – not the public one). The pics on these sites tend to indicate the news did not cover it despite info being available (which is different treatment as compared to all the other WH bashes).

  43. lao says:

So now, suddenly the pictures are just being released and, amazingly enough, those who have them are Johnny Depp and Tim Burton fan sites. This is a manufactured “controversy”. If the White House made a big deal about the “Alice” theme of the party they’d have been accused of pimping publicity for the film. I notice the fact that military families and their kids were the White House’s invited guests, isn’t getting much right wing play.

  44. Festivus says:

Yeah, the WH is not going to publicize a large party for military families and kids. uh-huh

I see that neither Tim Burton, Johnny Depp nor the actress that played Alice show up in the WH visitor logs.

  45. StanInTexas says:

LaoZee, Obama tried to hid the party because he didn’t want anything to think badly of him, after he had just lectured us on sacrifice. And the media, like the good little psychophants that they are, covered it up.

If the White House had made a big deal out of it, Obama would have been rightly criticized for his extravagance while telling all of us to suck it up. Except by people with their head up Obama’s ass… LIKE YOU!

  46. SR says:

The most transparent administration in American history. Lol

  49. Logic Mine says:

I don’t know what everyone is such in a uproar about. I’m sure there are PLENTY of pictures like these with the Obamas celebrating rather extravagantly.

But let me put your worries behind you. I can assure all of you that you will NEVER see a picture of this Man working.

Parties, Dissensions, and Eruptions at the White House

Writer Jodi Kantor had better watch her back. Her simply-titled book, The Obamas, set to be released January 10th, is simply a blockbuster which could bust the White House.

Described in part on Amazon as, ”Filled with riveting detail and insight into their [the Obama] partnership, emotions and personalities, and written with a keen eye for the ironies of public life, THE OBAMAS is an intimate portrait that will surprise even readers who thought they knew the President and First Lady,” the book does far more than that.

The tell-all book based on interviews with 30 administration aides exposes the First Couple as frauds and dissemblers, liars and back-biters.

Pre-release details of The Obamas have been leaking out in little dribs and major drabs and one of the latter is that during the depths of the Great Recession in 2009, Obama and Company threw a Halloween party at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue that would have rivaled anything Hollywood or Broadway could have ever conceived.
In fact, Hollywood may have conceived it. At least Tinseltown was well- represented at the Alice in Wonderland-themed event, with megastar Johnny Depp, director Tim Burton, and Star Wars’ Chewbacca along with White House staffers, military families, and D.C. kids in attendance as well as the mainstream media.

    Sounds like an extravaganza, right?

Well, it seems to have been–with the state dining room decorated by Burton in full Halloween regalia, Depp decked out as the Mad Hatter, Michelle Obama as a black and yellow cat, fruit punch served in blood vials, huge stuffed animals, etc.

Yet, it was as if it never happened since only one member of what calls Obama’s Palace Guards–the MSM–reported on the festivities. . . (Read more at

Yes, lao, the White House DID go out of their way to keep this garish affair out of the media. They bent over backwards to make sure the media hawked the trick-or-treaters and the military family party…but not THIS party. Why else are we hearing about it NOW for the first time? Why?? There is a dirty little secrets book coming out tomorrow. What the White House is feeding you is called DAMAGE CONTROL. Start thinking for yourself, and don’t be another victim of these self-serving people.

On the one hand, this is typical for the Obamas; Partying and living it up while Barack gives sanctimonious speeches about how all regular Americans need to “Make sacrifices” in this economic time.
On the other hand, I think Blount’s being a bit hard on Johnny Depp, for two reasons:
    1. The quote in question was from an interview he did with a German magazine that mistranslated what he said, taking it out of context.
    2. Shortly after the interview, Depp publicly apologized for what he said, and he hasn’t made any such controversial comments since then. He seems to have learned his lesson, so I’m all for letting it go.
