Massive AOC Campaign Finance Violation

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez looms large in the news lately. In addition to her revelation that Congress should not have authorized the use of military force against Al Qaeda following 9/11, we learn that her chief of staff stands accused of hiding $1 million in campaign cash in a massive campaign finance violation:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s top aide illegally funneled campaign donations to two companies he owned, according to a complaint filed Monday with the Federal Elections Commission.

Saikat Chakrabarti set up Brand New Congress PAC to collect and bundle donations for newbie politicians including Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. He then diverted more than $1 million to two of his companies that did campaign work, skirting reporting requirements, said the complaint by the National Legal and Policy Center.

When last we encountered Saikat Chakrabarti, he was wearing a t-shirt expressing his admiration for Subhas Chandra Bose, an ally of the Nazis during World War II.

“These are not minor or technical violations. We are talking about real money here,” said Tom Anderson, director of NLPC’s Government Integrity Project. “In all my years of studying FEC reports, I’ve never seen a more ambitious operation to circumvent reporting requirements.”

According to former FEC commissioner Brad Smith, this could land both Chakrabarti and AOC herself in prison.

The story sheds some light on her denunciation of “dark money,” which turns out to be as hypocritical as her unnecessarily oversized carbon footprint that contrasts jarringly with the draconian restrictions she would impose on the rest of us as part of the Green New Deal.
