Michigan Becomes Right to Work State, Unions React With Violence

A state that has been economically crippled by unions for years finally puts up some resistance:

The Michigan Legislature gave final approval Tuesday to a bitterly contested right-to-work plan limiting the power of unions, a devastating and once unthinkable defeat for organized labor in a state considered a cradle of the movement.

Unswayed by Democrats’ pleas and thousands of protesters inside and outside the state Capitol, the House approved two final bills, sending them on to Republican Gov. Rick Snyder. One dealt with private sector workers, the other with government employees.

Unions will no longer be able to force those who want no part of them to pay dues as a condition of employment.

Neither unions nor the party that represents them was likely to take this challenge to their power lying down. Before the vote, Democrat State representative Douglas Geiss snarled,

“There will be blood, there will be repercussions.”

A tent set up on the lawn of the Michigan State Capitol by Americans for Prosperity was attacked by union thugs and torn to the ground. Steven Crowder was on hand to receive a death threat following this sucker punch:

Obama himself weighed in, appearing near Detroit to denounce the concept of having a right to work without interference from the unions that helped him to power and that have bled Michigan nearly dry.

This video will be familiar to history students from the Russia of 1917 and the Germany of the 1930s:

Our country didn’t use to be like this.

If you are glad that we now need to live in fear of vicious, knuckle-dragging union goons, thank those who voted for their leader, Barack Hussein Obama. At some level, all of them had to know that this is what they were voting for.

On tips from Steven Crowder, Artfldgr, The MaryHunter, Ghost of FA Hayek, and Bill T.

The Union should file a grievance against this Union thug. For one he threw his own punch. Union contract states that after a threat of harm is made to a person that the one who made the threat is to have a union punch thrower, throw the actual punch. And that a union coat holder is to hold the coat of the punch thrower even if said punch thrower is not wearing said coat.

  2. IslandLifer says:

Now that’s one party I wish I could’ve been. Those beer guts sure look like they need some pounding.

  3. Clingtomyguns says:

Democraps aren’t taking this lying down, they are, of course, going to the courts (liberal judges) to overturn the duly enacted laws.

Despite the Democraps immorality and socialist position, if only the wimp RINO’s in the house leadership had some of their political fire …

Obama was up there to agitate, i.e. community organize, and rail some more against the evil rich wanting to keep their hard earned money. Wonder if he reassured the Detroit city council that the federal gubmint would print them some new bail-out money as a quid pro quo for their votes.

  4. Hillman says:

As a former union member, and union employer…I can say without a doubt…unions are a cancer to this country. Especially the IBEW. I hate them all. Ed Hill of the IBEW is an A-Hole.

  6. Comrade J says:

The thug who has assaulted Steven was id’d – Tony Cummings.

Funny thing about Tony (if it’s the same guy) – “…former financial secretary for United Steelworkers of America Local 735, was indicted in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas for one count of theft in the amount of $6,451 from the Cleveland-based union and 10 counts of forgery.

Who’s stealing from union members again?

    H/t iconoclast

  7. Highway Hospital Student says:

    And so endth the lessons.

The lesson by the Union Thugs being that a Thug has a right to the contents of another man’s pocket as long as said Thug has Thugs around.

Crowder’s lesson is that you don’t attempt to reason with someone with a brain the size of a pencil eraser.

I’m sure Crowder would have been inclined to demonstrate some of his MMA talents on that very, very o-so-brave Union Thug were the Union Thug not backed up by dozens of other Union Thugs.

Well when its all over and done, them there Union Thugs will have to go back to emptying waste cans.

You know who needs unions? The little kids in taiwan, or wherever, making air jordans for 6 cents an hour. Not these stupid, fucking, useless assholes.

And to a man, they will defend this piece of garbage.

  12. Bloodless Coup says:

I predict that the Unions will become progressively violent and that their violence will rapidly escalate into acts of domestic terrorism.

  13. Huh says:

The BEST part of the story is that these DEMOCRAT union thugs are mad that OTHER Democrat union thugs will be free loading buy not paying their dues!! That is why we don’t like Democrats too!

I despise Unions, and refuse to buy union made items as best I can.

  19. Jimbo says:

@Stephanie – that’s the reason I drive Toyota trucks. Proudly assembled by caring non-communists.

  20. Stephanie says:

In fact, I will NEVER buy an American made car from Chrysler, Ford and GM, until they abolish the UAW. I’ll buy foreign cars and trucks.

  21. Stephanie….that’s exactly why I just bought another foreign car. Everytime we do it makes a UAW ” worker” cry….

  22. Alan says:

“Our country didn’t use to be like this.”

Actually it used to be a lot worse, in the other direction. Workers who tried to unionize in the 1930s were often beaten up or threatened. Look up “1894 Pullman Strike” and “Industrial Workers of the World Union history.” Since the 1950s of course, the shoe is on the other foot. Unions the past fifty years have become bloated, corrupt, and violent.

The Crowder tape is obviously edited. What did he say or do to to provoke these people? Surely these people aren’t dumb enough to attack someone on camera in public…

    … surely …

  23. AC says:

Unless Crowder placed his hands on the goon then the goon is guilty of battery.

  24. facebkwallflower says:

Ha ha, now the union defenders are putting this out on facebook.

Here is my answer (As fast as I put it up under this accusation of false video, it gets removed. So typical to only let their supporters see their side. Keep the delusion going.)

“Only gotta kid yourself. Watch the video. Even if as you say the the mob thugs did not untie the tent, what just were they doing in that video? Why did not the yellow vest union leads back off the mob in their destruction? Why did NOT the police step in? The answer is NOT that it did not happen, that is for sure.

Credibility will be given to the claims of fraudulent video when any of those in this video. that can be seen with a camera, show it happening as this article states. At this point, all there is to go by is an uncut video of a bunch of identifiable union people engaging in mob violence and…………their drones are quick to NOT decry the behavior of the union in the video. Until something more validating comes along, this video is historical documentation as to what went down.

As to the claim of the tent being untied by the owners: Do you know the protocol for maintaining a tent in the event of a mob attack? How do men protect those, including women, inside from the mob? How do you keep the mob out? Do you know the tent is set up in an manner, inside, so if collapsed people can find safety under tables?

Peaceful protest is stating what you stand for; not for yelling and screaming and spitting and as a mass invading the opposition’s space. That IS violence. You may be able to justify in in your mind that the video is fake but many people in that vid are being identified, right down to their local union. Oh, the joys of the internet and past vids for identification.

You are known by the company you keep. It was not a peaceful event. AND YOU KNOW IT IN THE DEEP RECESSES OF YOUR MIND. Decision time.

Unionize the illegal mexicans and imported STEM workers,so they don’t drag the prevailing wage down to third world levels.
It would also be humane,no more wetbacks working for food and shelter whilst legal citizens go unemployed due to illegal competition.
    Chew on that one!

  26. AC says:

The mob went on to slice up the tent and hand out pieces as souvenirs as onlooking goons laughed.

  28. Eoin says:

Who the hell thinks union goons being emboldened is a bad thing?

I, for one, will find the practice on my already honed trigger squeeze to be rather cathartic. The only thing I will feel is recoil… and there ain’t a whole lot of recoil with 5.56.

  29. True Blue says:

Well, that is the going propaganda, isn’t it?
Facts are that Unions have been almost without exception pure and simple communist organizations. Wages were low at the time due to nothing more than simple immigration policy, and a flood of workers from the countryside into the cities for jobs.
Economics are simple, if there is alot of something, it is cheap. If there is an abundance of labor; pay is going to be very low, because there will be someone willing to do the job for the same or less.
Government immigration policy helped keep labor cheap, ‘No Irish need apply’ signs do not pop up if there is a labor shortage and you can’t find enough guys to work. I mean, why should I pay you $30 per hour when Fritz Freshofftheboat or Barney Bumpkinhopper will push that same button on the widget-stamper for $10 per hour?
Unions demanded that employers ignore this Fact (too much labor needing jobs) and pay workers Above their ‘free market’ value.
This is why Philco Radios had to fire 2/3 or their workforce as soon as the union moved into their shop. With all the union’s demands and perks, the company could only afford to keep 6,000 jobs out of 18,000, with quality going down and prices going up.
So, the union was never for the actual workers -or they would have thought about the 12,000 unemployed instead of the 6,000 who wanted 3X the pay that they were worth compared to the next ‘average Joe’ on the street.
If the unions were for the workers, they would have pushed for tighter immigration controls to dry up the labor market and raise workers wages naturally.
    Sound familiar?
I don’t mean to be argumentative, but I get so tired of the ‘unions were good once’ claptrap that people are fed these days. They’ve always been just what they are today.

  30. Bloodless Coup says:

Terrorism is defined as…”The unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property in order to coerce or intimidate a government or the civilian population in furtherance of political or social objectives.”

Make no mistake about it, these Union Goons are TERRORISTS.

  31. Secret Squirrel says:

    True Blue:

I took macro and micro economics one semester ago. I can tell you, that you are spot on with what you said.

  32. Bloodless Coup says:

There is absolutely no doubt that Union violence and threats meet the definiton of Domestic Terrorism.

    Domestic Terrorism is….

“The unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property in order to
coerce or intimidate a government or the civilian population in furtherance of
    political or social objectives.”

The only question that remains is…

what are the Feds are going to do to stop it?

I was in the IBEW once I got out because they told me who to VOTE for i am a vet. and nobody tells me who i can VOTE for . i don’t need a union to talk for me if I don’t like what is going on i tell them or go and find a better job by the way i made 35$ less a week after i got out of the union but it coast me 40$ a week in gas to go to work i the union

  35. Winston Smith says:

Typical of hard core union thuggery by union goons usually under the influence of booze and drugs. They are violent types to begin with and add alchohol and drugs and it makes for an explosive situation. Will the guy that punched the reporter be arrested and given prison time? Will those that attacked the tent be arrested and charged? The chance of that are Slim and None and Slim left town on the 6am train; to paraphrase Dan Blather circa November 2000.

  36. Ghost of FA Hayek says:

    True Blue
    How true
People fail to understand that labor is a commodity.
It is up to you as an individual to add value to yourself.
Those union work rules are designed to cover up for the workers unwillingness to do this.
Hiding behind the union thugs with clubs, brass knuckles, and Democrapts may provide a temporary wage boost, but in the end will more often leave you with nothing to show.

  37. snuss says:

Gee, I thought only conservatives, like the TEA party, were so hate-filled and violent. At least, that is what the Leftists and their Lame-stream media sycophants keep telling us, ad nauseum.

  38. Mr Evilwrench says:

Industrial Workers of the World? The wobblies? Are you fucking kidding me? That’s a communist .org at the root, with a flaking union paintjob on it to fool the foolish. As an aside, it may interest people to know that Helen Keller, everyone’s hero, was a communist herself, and a big supporter of the wobblies in particular.

I will say, there was a time when workers were treated as an expendable resource, and a union might come along and say “don’t be a dick”, but we have all these utopian .gov regulations now, OSHA, EEOC, whatnot. What are the unions for now? Financing casinos in Vegas?

  39. smokeclay says:

The golden triad. The white house, unions and the communist party.

  40. Laurie says:

Steven Crowder ignored Rule #1 when dealing with people who have the IQ of a carrot: Be prepared for a physical altercation at any time.

When union goons are angry enough to yell, they’re angry enough to throw punches.

The only way to stop this sort of thing is to hand out a serious ass-whuppin’ to a couple of these beer-gut-packing blowhards. Crowder should have fought back like a cornered wolverine and put that fat bastard into the hospital. Considering this was all caught on tape, there isn’t a jury in the world who would convict him of anything.

    Well…except racism. Oh wait….

  41. Alan says:

Thanks for the feedback, True Blue & co. I believe unions were a good idea 100-150 years ago, what with rampant discrimination, hazardous working environments (Triangle ShirtWaist fire, etc) and corrupt “company towns.”

Of course times have changed, and today’s educated, mobile population has more options to shop around for better pay and conditions. So congratulations unions, mission accomplished, now go away. People who call themselves Progressives still pretend it’s 1912, and hate real progress.
