Mike Huckabee: Sell Out to Trump or Leave the GOP

Of all the phony, opportunistic, unprincipled, slug-like reprobates who make politics so unappealing that many Americans turn their backs on it, among the most difficult to respect is Mike Huckabee, a failed presidential candidate who started obsequiously selling out to Trump prior to the Iowa caucuses. Now that the party is in collapse, conservativism having been rejected in favor of a cheesy, reality show version of national socialism, he demands that all Republicans shed their limited government notions and follow suit or leave the GOP:

As Mediaite reported, on Thursday Huckabee offered on Fox’s America’s Newsroom: “When we nominated people over the past several election cycles, some of us had heartburn, but we stepped up and supported the nominee.” Huckabee told those who wouldn’t support Trump to leave the party, “This isn’t Burger King. This is an election. And you don’t get it all the time just like you want it. You’re either on the team, or you’re not on the team.”

What Huckleberry ignores is that Trump is not merely a poor candidate, but a cataclysmically awful candidate, hated by most of the population.

Worse, Trump is not merely not conservative. He is anti-conservative. Conservatives didn’t like Romney or McCain either, but most of us held our noses and voted for them because at least they were better than the enemy. That enemy is people like Donald Trump — a statist authoritarian who does not even pretend that he will not aggressively increase the size and power of the federal government at the expense of our liberty.

Romney and McCain did not have lifelong histories of taking radical left positions and showering money upon corrupt left-wing Democrats. Romney and McCain did not promise to force US troops to commit war crimes, or threaten to twist libel laws into a tool for silencing political dissent.

Another crucial difference is that despite their political flaws, Romney and McCain are decent men. No informed person believes that of Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, Huckabee had ripped Never Trumpers, stating, “The dirty little secret is that the Never Trump movement was more about providing high dollar work for the political consultants than stopping the disaster of an Obama third term which is the result of electing Hillary Clinton.”

A more unjust smear would be difficult to imagine. The idea that people would fall on their sword for their principles rather than sell out to an evil man like Donald Trump is so incomprehensible to someone of Huckabee’s caliber that he is left to project is own shallow, morbidly self-centered motives onto others.

Huckabee also hilariously claimed, “We will go to Cleveland with a presumptive nominee, and we will realize that whatever squabbles we have among people in the GOP, it’s nothing compared to the chasm between us and the socialist, big government approach of the Democrats.”

That was before Trump said he’d consider raising the minimum wage to $15 to join with his other big government positions.

Like Trump, Huckabee has far more in common with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders than he does with the conservatives who he demands leave the doleful ruins of the Republican Party.

A few samples of how that demand has been received:

GOP leaders have a choice to make that would be less excruciating if only they had more courage and character. Either they stop Trump at the convention on the grounds that his candidacy is obscenely inappropriate, or they turn the party over to Trump and statist toadies like Huckabee and Chris Christie.

Since their fecklessness in standing up to Obama helped bring about this crisis, it is likely that they will choose the latter. As a result, not only conservatives but decent people in general will abandon it, and the Republican Party will die.

What a Trumpian apparatchik looks like.

Nice big tent you have there Huckabee…not. BTW you claim to be a Christian, how do you justify voting for a dank reprobate like Trump before the God you say you worship? Oh that’s right pragmatic Christianity allows you (and far too many others) to ignore all that for the sake politics. Your god is too small Mike…

  3. daPenguin says:

ok but let’s get to the super important question. How does Chuck (slam a revolving door) Norris feel about Huck now?

  4. Troll Magnet says:

So we’ll keep seeing anti Trump crap till November now? Lovely.

  5. JeffersonSpinningInGrave says:

Yep. I can’t take Mike up on leaving. Left years ago.

  6. MicahStone says:

    Now you know !!!!

  7. Skip says:

I am sure you have not been missed. Donald Trump is our next president…get over it!

  8. MAS says:

Well at least you are half right…haven’t missed them either. Oh and I am so over Trump already, not you though…cult like in you slavish devotion.

Skips real battle cry; HILLARY 2016!

  9. Tom says:

So you have a direct line to God? You know who God wants you to vote for? You’re ridiculous…telling someone that their God is “too small”?
    Spare us your sanctimony, sore-loser.

  10. Occam's Stubble says:

Oh, Mike, I do support the voters’ choice. 63% did not vote for Trump.

  11. marcus tullius cicero says:

…Huckster only got 29 pieces of silver and he’s angry!

  12. Jeremiah says:

Even if everyone who supported any other Republican candidate held his nose and voted for Trump, Hillary would still win by a Reaganesque landslide, because Trump won’t get the women’s vote, the Hispanic vote, or the black vote.
Then, Hillary will use this (wo)mandate to replace Obamacare with Hillarycare (the socialist medicine plan she developed when her husband was president). Then, she’ll put monsters on the bench that’ll make Kagen look like Bork. Then, she’ll give all felons and immigration criminals the right to vote, so there’ll never be another Republican president of any stripe ever again.
And to top it off, Hillary will reward Trump with an ambassadorship to someplace opulent.
Of course, on O’bama’s last day, he’ll give Hillary a blanket pardon bigger than the one Ford gave Nixon.
God has decided to destroy this nation

  13. MAS says:

I have Scriptures to back the position, how about you?

  14. Some soldier for Christ he turned out to be

  15. CTsOpinion says:

Add Trump won’t get the vote of anyone with a political IQ over 60.

  16. Skip says:

Hillary is going to get smashed by Trump, it will be no contest, the people are tired of the Democrats and what they have done during the past seven-plus years. Apparently you folks are not.

  17. 762x51 says:

Yeah, except for the part where he loses to her.

In 2016, any voters and there could be dozens of them, will decide and vote for the candidate they dislike the least. Against one of the most despicable, phony, pretentious, impersonal, impolite, elitist swine of all times, your boy Donnie comes in last.

    Good job, jackass!

  18. 762x51 says:

Exactly! The Trumpanzees love to squeal about how, “tRump won, get over it”. They are not capable of understanding that he was a plurality candidate that well over half of the GOP voters rejected. I figure they got here on their own, they don’t need me the rest of the way.

  19. 762x51 says:

You have no idea what I have in store for you dirt bags.

I wouldn’t count on it stopping in Nov. if I were you.

  20. 762x51 says:

He was rejected by over half of the GOP voters which you tRumptards have managed to alienate into not supporting your boy.

Newsflash, imbecile, you can’t win a general election with 25% of the electorate. Trump loses, you lose and America loses. We will never forget the evil you have brought down on us.

  21. 762x51 says:

I left the GOPee many years ago. WAAAAAAY ahead of the Trumpettes. I’m just not a cult of personalty, Alinsky Progressive like the tRumptards.

  24. david says:

America will be identical to Europe in a couple decades thanks to weak, childish conservatives who handed the nation to liberals just so they could cast a protest vote.

You do not have an opportunity this year to elect a candidate that shares your principles. Period. If you’re intelligent, you’ll evaluate the available options and pick the best that you have. If Hillary wins, the Consistitution will be shredded by her liberal SCOTUS pick. If Trump wins, he’ll either pick a brilliant conservative judge to appease his base, or he’ll pick a moderate/liberal out of naivety. That’s not ideal, but it’s far better than Hillary, who is GUARANTEED to destroy everything that she can put her mitts on.

A third party vote has only two possible outcomes: helping Hillary or–less likey–having no effect if the third party left/right votes happen to balance out.

A non-vote for Trump is a vote for Hillary.

  25. david says:

You believe a poll suggesting that most Americans trust Hillary more on immigration and terrorism?

  26. Johnny Monday says:

A vote for Drumpf is a vote for larger government and higher taxes. #NeverTrump

  29. Occam's Stubble says:

As a conservative, I am unfortunately quite accustomed to holding my nose while I vote. I will do it again.

If by some miracle, Jim Webb had become the Democratic nominee, I would be voting for him over Trump.

  30. Troll Magnet says:

Aren’t you a tough guy ha?! Don’t you have a rebellion to start or something? You sure talk a lot of shit on here. I used to reply to you in the past and respected your opinion. Now I see you’re just a pathetic keyboard command. Why don’t you take one of those 7.62 NATO and show it up your ass.

  31. grayjohn says:

I left the GOP a long long time ago. Right around the time of the first gulf war. Something was wrong and I wanted no part of it. A few years later I walked away from the NRA for the same reason. Both have been infiltrated and compromised and have nothing in common with the organizations I used to belong to. They raise money for the left by making us think we are supporting the right. They pretend to be like us, while they work against everything we believe.

  32. grayjohn says:

    Trump is Hillary. Wake up.

  33. Dolan Tump says:

If not voting for Hillary is a vote for Hillary, then what would actually voting for Hillary be?

  34. Dolan Tump says:

He’s a fraud like many supposed Christians.

  35. sandyaz says:

The wolves in sheep’s clothing are joining ranks. Shame on him. I’ve left. The last principled individual leaving needs to turn the lights out and lock the doors. Though I will never consider Johnson as a possibility, I will probably write in a candidate that I feel is worthy of my vote. I will not caste my lot with either of the front-runners and thereby “endorsing” their candidacy. I will bare no responsibility for either.

  36. 762x51 says:

That is the data that is out there, I didn’t make it up, I’m just reporting it.

You believe that the media is going to continue to help tRump now that it him against Hillary? Since 1982, the media has helped the republican candidate they wanted to run against the democrat they wanted to win. In the general election, they have in each of the quadrennial election cycles since then, turned on that republican candidate and destroy him. That is a true historical fact and it is about to be replayed again.

Either way, they have set it up that your choice in Nov. will be between Hillary Clinton or the guy who used to fund Hillary Clinton. The Trumpettes have bought into the media hype yet again. That’s a shallow learning curve.

  37. Rotohammer says:

I had no problem voting for Romney because he ran on a conservative platform, as I recall. His prior record wasn’t so conservative, but his campaign message was OK. I thought if he won on that, he would see that platform as a mandate on how to govern as president. Romney was also just a solid guy with a head for finance and a good background in venture capitalism. Wealthy, but he earned it.

Donald’s platform is unclear. Too much vacillation in his statements. He inherited his wealth and has only tread water with it. His deal making is bluster. I will vote against Hillary, which probably means voting for Donald. If he wins, I hope that at worst we just tread water for four years. Hillary could sink us.

  38. Rotohammer says:

It’s time to form the Conservative Party! Sean Hannity is leading the way!

Oh, wait. “Ironic” hardly does this justice.

  39. 762x51 says:

Oh I don’t just do this on the Internet, junior.

We can arrange a little real life demonstration if you have the balls for it. So let’s just see who the keyboard commando really is. What do you say, tRumpie? You going to back up your name calling, faux bravdo? Is there any grit behind that spittle? I doubt it.

  40. 762x51 says:

Appropriate since tRumps campaign has all the form and substance of water vapor.

  42. Nobama says:

I believe Trump is mostly bluster and because of that, I don’t fear all the cataclysmic predictions of what his presidency might be. For instance, Trump himself has said multiple times that his tariff proposals are really nothing but threats that he doesn’t expect to ever implement. He also speaks off the cuff and says crazy things only to walk them back later. It’s all part of his MO. He prides himself in being unpredictable.

I’m surprised that so many people here still take everything Trump says so seriously. Haven’t you learned anything about him yet? In the end, I honestly don’t expect him to do any more damage than a RINO like Jeb, and he might actually accomplish some good (like stopping the illegals). Aside from Cruz, I still have more faith in Trump in changing the status quo than any of the other candidates. Of course he still has to get elected first, which I still have serious doubts about.

  43. Troll Magnet says:

You are deranged. Seek professional help.

  44. Ed. G. Mann says:

Dà já vu 2014. Romney is GOPe hump.

  45. Ed. G. Mann says:

Every one demanded that Trump take and then sign the pledge to support the GOPe candidate for President. Wasn’t that great when Cruz, Rubio, Jeb! or anybody but Trump was going to be the proud standard bearer?

Now all your GOP assholes are reneging. They have a problem with whom the voters chose. Well Trump proved money doesn’t always buy elections. The piper of politics led all other candidates awry and you followed without realizing the tune changed and the voters followed.

You can vote for Trump or else. The OR ELSE is you’re screwed in every orifice in your body and probably a couple more to be added if you don’t vote for him.

You brought this upon yourselves by being closed minded years ago by staying in the GOP,

  46. grayjohn says:

The GOP is dead and gone. This thing that calls itself the GOP is BS and so is everyone in it.

  47. grayjohn says:

Holding your nose won’t cut it for this one. This one will take a lobotomy.

  48. 762x51 says:

No, I’m teaching you a valuable lesson. Calling someone out should be avoided unless you can back it up. Your boy tRump loves to call people out because he is nothing but a bully. He would NEVER face anyone alone, just as you will not. Unlike you, he has an armed security detail so he gets away with it and therefore believes his own bullshit. Fascism like tRumps, and for that matter Hillary’s, can only succeed if no one stands up to it which is why I and many of my brothers are prepared to do just that.

Now, unless you are prepared to come and shove one of those rounds up my ass, or at least try, we have determined exactly who the is the keyboard warrior in this conversation.

You are the keyboard warrior, just as I thought.

  49. Occam's Stubble says:

Maybe I can find some of that stuff coroners put on their upper lip when they’re working on a decomposing corpse, man.

  50. Troll Magnet says:

I though about our discussion over the last few days. My name calling was uncalled for. I apologize for that. We should not be swinging mud at each other. We both want the same thing: freedom, liberty, our country back and free of the leftist cancer. I want my children to grow up and live in a free and prosperous America, with less regulation, less government, and more freedom, be it economic, personal such as gun ownership, free speech, you name it.
