Ministries of Truth Blossom in Europe

In the West, tyranny no longer arrives as a fist in your face. Now it sneaks up on you softly, usually under the guise of solving a phony problem like “hate speech” or “fake news”:

Germany recently enacted a law that allows the government to censor social media and fine related companies that won’t take down what government officials deem fake news or hate speech.

France isn’t far behind. French President Emmanuel Macron proposed a ban on fake news, especially around election time, “in order to protect democracy.”

And on Tuesday, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May announced the creation of a commission to respond to fake news called the National Security Communications Unit.

All news is fake to the extent that it is biased, if only in what it chooses to cover. It does not become less fake by supporting the point of view favored by the government. People have to decide for themselves what sources are relatively credible.

As for factually inaccurate news,

A recent study concluded that while fake news often spreads far with the help of tools such as social media, it has a shallow impact on what Americans believe. This begs the question of why near-authoritarian measures would be implemented that so badly undermine free speech rights.

Now there’s an easy question. The answer: to gain power over people’s thoughts and attitudes.

Anything progressive bureaucrats don’t like is “hate speech,” just ask the NFL…

The so-called mainstream media has not been about the business of reporting real news for at least a couple of decades. Their mission is not to report news, but rather to mold public opinion.

They hit their peak in 2007-2008 after years of pummeling G.W. Bush, who foolishly never fought back, and paved the way for the most unqualified candidate ever, to be elected POTUS. His deficiencies were kept hidden, as they protected him like the Praetorian Guard protects the pope.

In 2016 they thought they once again had everything wrapped up in a nice neat little package, paving the way for Hillary. The first sign that something was amiss, was when they couldn’t succeed in making Jeb! the repub candidate, which to them, was nearly as important as getting Madame Hillary elected. After that, things really went to hell, insofar as they were concerned, and the unbelievable happened. Trump won. “How could this happen?”, they wondered and lamented. “We’re the Mainstream Media. We tell people how to think! We’re the king-makers”!

Since that election day the MSM has engaged in a multiple months long tantrum, like a petulant child who didn’t get their own way, but fortunately, many Americans regardless of political affiliation, and regardless of whether or not they voted for Trump, are beginning to see them for what they really are, the modern day version of the Soviet Union’s TASS or Pravda.

When all the news from the different news sources are the same, then the people of Europe won’t question it. The government will have mind control. Yeah he internet won’t save them either because they have Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram under their collective thumbs. When the next war in Europe breaks out don’t call on Americans to help fight it.

…and see how many people seem to think it’s a great idea to have a central government decide what can and cannot be reported, and think we should do something similar in the USA. I can basically blow off a great deal of ranting about many topics, there have always been idiots and loons and there always will be. But some idiot was spouting off about how Germany is ahead of us in this, since they have greater insight because of the propaganda of Hitler. I guess their point was that the government needs to stop someone like Hitler from influencing people, by, err, acting going full fascist and censoring the press. The lack of awareness here is stunning. This is freaking terrifying.

    Ha…must have had a senior moment there….lol.

    “SWISS Guard” ….NOT Praetorian Guard!

Although, the analogy might have worked better by sticking with the Praetorian Guard given their history of protecting a string of inept, corrupt emperors, inasmuch as that the analogy was referring to Obama….lol.

And it’s becoming more and more clear now that the internet has destroyed their monopoly on the information flow. Which itself makes it more clear than ever that freedom of speech and the press is vital. We need to make damn sure information flow is not controlled, even if it means that people like Alex Jones and Joy Reid have a platform. Truth will will eventually win.

  8. JeffersonSpinningInGrave says:

And the fact that the people of Germany don’t see that is astounding. In relatively recent history, they’ve survived the Gestapo and the Stasi, and STILL they take a serious step down the road of creating something essentially the same. I can’t think of words strong enough to describe the sheer, gibbering, window licking stupidity.
