Moonbat Math

Political correctness (a.k.a. liberalism, moonbattery) is a totalitarian ideology, requiring that absolutely everything be brought into compliance with it — even math:

Rethinking Schools [is] an organization that’s been sneaking left-wing “social justice” lessons into America’s K-12 classrooms for nearly three decades.

The group’s latest effort to indoctrinate the nation’s youth is a 286-page book aimed at teachers, titled “Rethinking Mathematics: Teaching Social Justice by the Numbers.” The book is a mix of math lesson plans and essays from activist educators who explain how they’ve used their classrooms to advance a progressive political philosophy.

Two main themes emerge from the pages of “Rethinking Mathematics.”

The first is that the U.S. is a hopelessly racist country that routinely oppresses “people of color.”

This message is conveyed through lessons and essays about racial profiling, environmental racism, unfair mortgage lending practices of Big Banks, the “overabundance of liquor stores” in minority communities, and slave-owning U.S. presidents.

The book’s other major theme is that capitalism’s unequal distribution of wealth is the root cause of the world’s suffering. Students learn to despise free market economics in lessons about third-world sweatshops, “living wage” laws, the earnings of fast food workers and restaurant CEOs, and the “hidden” costs of meat production.

All of this sounds like material from a college sociology textbook. What could it possibly have to do with mathematics?

As the “Rethinking” teachers demonstrate, the math concepts of ratios, averages, percentages, bar graphs, density and geometric formulas are very useful when training kids to see the world in their preferred categories of “haves” and “have nots.”

The “have nots” consist mainly of groups created by the government through immigration and welfare policy that are being exploited community organizer–style to tear down American civilization and replace it with a Third World banana republic more conducive to socialist rule.

The idea is that

if students are taught that the constitutional principles of private property ownership and free market capitalism are merely tools white people use to oppress “people of color,” they’ll eventually demand a socialist form of government.

This liberal objective sheds light on the federal government’s refusal to defend the border or even to stop offering lucrative financial incentives to Third World immigrants.

Here’s the essential equation behind moonbat math: left-wing propaganda in schools + the immigration floodgates opened the rest of the way by amnesty = the deliberate obliteration of America.

The USA will be replaced by a second-rate, authoritarian collectivist nation that will more closely resemble Brazil — if not Zimbabwe. That has been the purpose of political correctness from the beginning.

    This actually is an opportunity. Home-school your kids or have after-school education for them in which YOU teach them the right way to do it and that the schools are teaching them bigoted bunk.

    Result: when they grow up they can either (a) hire the stupid kids (who became stupid adults) to do back-breaking menial spit-work or (b) come up with clever ways to scam them out of their money.

    Maybe it is time to let them enjoy all their utopic vision has to offer? Just let the rest of start a new homeland and get to enjoy 24 hour a day coverage of the the People’s Utopia of the former United States.

    My son, who has an engineering degree is a high school math teacher. For some time now the higher-ups have been trying to institute a new math curriculum similar to the one in the above article. Only worse. It won’t matter if the student gets the right answer as long as they use the right process. If they feel good about what they did, then it doesn’t matter if the answer is correct. Naturally the front line math teachers are livid. So my son got up at one of these rah-rah meeting and said “So, if a bridge fails and dozens of people plunge to their deaths–it doesn’t matter, as long as the engineer felt good about his calculations?” He got the usual sour looks, accusations of not being a team player, and a whole lot of “move along–nothing to see here.” They shut him up as soon as they could.

    This is what is passing for education here in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts.

    The Marxists have a product and they’ve sold it to the public. In America, it’s legal to be a Marxist. It’s legal for anyone (even a Marxist) to become a teacher or professor if they pass the requisite tests. It’s legal for a publishing house to publish any book they see fit to publish. It’s legal for anyone to write a textbook and see if he can convince a publisher to publish it.

    If Marxists win in the free market of ideas, then that’s it: they capture the minds of he populace. I really don’t see where they stopped any right-wing or even mildly conservative person from starting a textbook publishing company.

    HERE’S MY SURVEY: So, tell me: What would you do differently if you could turn the clock back to post-WW2 America?

    Me? I’d make it illegal to be a Marxist. But we sort of tried that and what did we get? “Have you no decency, sir?”

    Maybe we needed conservatives to get in the information/education professions with a sense of duty (like the leftists did!); to say, “We need to get jobs as teachers!” But conservatives acted like “No worries! Those leftists are just flakes!” Sadly, those leftists turned out to be quite dedicated and organized. Not so flakey after all. Oops. We underestimated them.

    Personally, I’m lost. Is there an answer?

    We have a couple of problems. First, government controls education. Therefore, anyone who thinks that kids will hear anything other than what the government wants taught is a fool. We have unionized government workers teaching our kids. Surprised that they are learning socialism?

    “Government can perform only two basic actions: it can use force or threat to prevent or compel the actions of others and it can take the property of others via that same force or threat.”

    The first mistake of conservatives was accepting the concept of compulsory, government-supplied education. All that socialism is is government seizing property from some and sharing some of the spoils with others. It is legalized theft, and that is what our schools are teaching.

    So…how to get out of this problem?
    1. Homeschool your kids.
    2. School vouchers for everyone. As long as the government is in the business of collecting money for education, those who value freedom must push for a specific sum of money to be associated with each kid; let the parents spend that money as they see best. Hire a person in the neighborhood to teach your kids. Or use that voucher to send your kid to any school you wish.

    Freedom should be our rallying cry. Freedom from government coercion.

I feel sorry for Whites that have to share classrooms with bitter, envious, stupid coloreds who are going to be even more uppity and more entitled as their fake grievances are reinforced by fake education.
