New Orleans Continues to Erase Southern History

The purging of Southern history from New Orleans continues. Recently, authorities working under cover of darkness brought down the Liberty Monument. Now, down comes Jefferson Davis himself — an undeniably important historical figure who is currently out of political fashion and therefore must be erased:

Workers wearing face masks, bulletproof vests and helmets Thursday morning removed the statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis in New Orleans, the second of four Confederate monuments slated for removal in a contentious, months-long process that has sparked protests on both sides.

Next to be frog-marched down the New Orleans memory hole are General P.G.T. Beauregard and the great Robert E. Lee.

The Lee statue is the most prominent of the four. Unveiled in 1884, the likeness of Lee stands atop a 60-foot-tall column in the center of a traffic circle on historic St. Charles Avenue. Monument supporters say each of the statues weighs tons and they feared moving the aging icons could result in significant damage.

How nice for Mayor Mitch Landrieu that he is able to stay in power by pandering to blacks with gestures like this. But there is a price to be paid, and not primarily by “racists” or siders with the CSA in a war that ended 152 years ago. The victims are Southern heritage and beyond that, history itself. You would think liberals promoting this purge might be worried that those who forget history end up repeating it.

  1. As Mary Landrieu’s brother, you really shouldn’t expect much more out of this coward.

They’re just doing the Reconstruction the Union tried to do after the Civil War, but the Democrats prevented, because the end of the 3/5th rule gave them so much congressional power.
Any officer who changed his uniform to a Confederate one and led troops against the Union should have been hanged for mutiny, but Lincoln was too magnanimous.
Personally, I think that the Lord gave the Democrats of the Confederacy their defeat, not because the North was more virtuous, but because for 300 years Christians prayed to be released from slavery. And if you think the Civil War was not about slavery; you should just join the Democrat Party and be done with it.

There is no obligation for any state to remain in the union. In fact, the declaration of independence specifically states that we the people have the right to change our form of government if it doesn’t protect our rights.

Something to keep in mind when Liberal Moonbats are again in charge.

AS I KEEP SAYING, you Yankees could NEVER PROVE that secession was illegal. Your ancestors had invaded a foreign country and forced us to be in your country, thus creating an EMPIRE.
The people after the war knew that if they had tried a single Confederate leader, they would have to PROOVE that secession was illegal to make ANY of the charges stick. They knew they couldn’t and they would have to recognize the CSA as a foreign country and all those northern men would have died for NOTHING.
That’s why you fools have to hate and lie about us for eternity.

The good Mayor Mitch is 50+ years old and just recently he had an epiphany that these statues may offend somebody, possibly, theoretically… This same Mayor Mitch, whom I would guess as a teen, drove around Lee Circle and the Robert E. Lee statue during his teenage years, drinking beer with not a clue who was on the statue. Now the pandering Mayor Mitch has the fire department dressed up like the Taliban with their face’s covered taking down the statues. What an ass. History repeats itself you know and this individual is destroying history. This is nothing more than an attempt to take the focus off the rising murder rate, the failing infrastructure, and his pitiful tenure as mayor. It is nothing more than pushing a political agenda of promoting division!
