New York City Wants to Loot Major Energy Companies for Causing Weather

Fly into New York City at night and you will see an impressive sea of light stretching across the horizon, emblematic of mankind’s triumph over the darkness of savagery. But it may not be easy to keep the lights on with lunatic leftists like Bill de Blasio in charge:

[T]he city filed a lawsuit in Manhattan federal court late Tuesday against the five largest fossil fuel companies in the world — BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil, and Royal Dutch Shell — looking to force them to help foot the bill for the $20 billion the city is spending to rebuild from Hurricane Sandy and protect itself against future storms.

According to liberal ideology, weather is caused by global warming, and global warming is caused by those who provide the energy required to sustain our population.

Barks de Blasio:

“We’re going after those who have profited — and what a horrible, disgusting way to profit.”

This is why global warming B.S. is not just amusing kookiness but a threat to civilization. In the sort of lunatic asylum New York is turning into as a result of stratospheric taxation driving sane people out, it should be no problem finding a jury that will concur that Exxon Mobil caused Hurricane Sandy. From there, the looting spree will continue until the whole country is left shivering in the dark.

The city charges that the companies should be forced to pay damages because they knew as early as the 1980s that burning fossil fuels could have a catastrophic effect on the climate, but deliberately deceived authorities and the public.

They argue in court papers that the five oil giants broke public and private nuisance laws and are guilty of illegal trespassing on city property by causing floods and sea level rises.

As insatiably greedy as most communists, de Blasio is seeking $billions. That ought to keep New York’s welfare state limping along for a few more years. But it might have to limp along in the dark.

At least New York can meet part of its voracious appetite for energy with nuclear power. Oh that’s right, the moonbats are closing down Indian Point, which provides 25% of the electricity to the area, because they don’t like nuclear power either.

For her part, climate activist Naomi Klein is delighted to see the “largest city in the most powerful country in the planet” attempting to snuff out the lights for everyone in the name of an ideology that doesn’t pass the laugh test.

A sane judge should dismiss the case as frivolous.

  2. Brian says:

This is a balloon trial, to establish a legal precedent, reinforce the AGW narrative which is slouching badly, and open up some kind of brokered scheme down the line, where the public will front the cost as intended. As for Indian Point, it’s not safe and I live down river from that leaky bastard. Good riddance. Better to burn the oil.

  3. MAS says:

They’ll judge shop until they find one not sane enough…

  4. MAS says:

    Good, close Gotham down.

  5. Nome Sane says:

Indian Point should be shut down, torn down and replaced with solar, wind and political gas power. Send the bill to the SJW users down river – the ones who serially elect idiots.

100% Predictable Fraud From Government Climate Scientists:

In 1990, Tom Karl and the IPCC showed that Earth was much warmer 900 years ago, during the Medieval Warm Period (MWP.)

By 2001, Michael Mann and the IPCC followed up on their plans, and eliminated the MWP.

Government scientists also knew in 1985 that Arctic sea ice extent was much lower in the 1940’s and 1950’s than it was in 1973.

The pre-1979 Arctic sea ice data was extremely inconvenient, so NOAA simply made it disappear. They now start their graphs right at the peak year in 1979. I have been trying to obtain the pre-1979 IPCC satellite data from NOAA for over six months, and they have been “unable to locate it.”

Satellite data does not give NASA the answer they want, so the US space agency ignores satellites, and instead releases fraudulent surface temperatures. (50% of which is made up because of missing data.) for documentation of the fraud, complete with irrefutable charts and graphs.

  8. Mr. Freemarket says:

The solution seems simple. Energy companies, those who sell gasoline oil diesel or electricity, should refuse to sell any products within the city of New York.

  9. Alisa says:

What the Big Oil Companies need is to get their hands on the interview from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland Jan. 22, 2014 where UN Climate Chief Christiana Figueres Admits global warming Is To Destroy Capitalism.

Can’t get any better than getting the truth straight out of the horses mouth!!!

    What a nasty, evil person.

  11. rocketride says:

When energy shortages occur, entities which actively have interfered with the efforts of energy providers to do their job should definitely be the first to get their supply cut.

  12. Ol' Uncle Lar says:

You mentioned the wrong end of the horse.

  13. Mr. Freemarket says:

Let them freeze and blog in the dark.

  14. ICEvictim says:

the lawsuit does not rely on actually providing power to NY. It is the satanic gases “spewed” into the air by the power plants no matter where they are this is the supposed cause of hurricanes. Of course we’ve had the lowest hurricane count in decades but I’m sure that won’t be allowed in evidence.

  15. ICEvictim says:

my son has been taken to the dark side on AGW. No matter how many science papers like Scafetta, et al I show him, he’s certain we’re all going to die if we don’t stop producing reliable power.

  16. ICEvictim says:

God no! they’ll just disperse into the nice parts of the country and infect them.

  17. Franklyfrank says:

As a New Yorker, I would LOVE to see Bill Deblabio get his comeuppance, that arrogant, troglodytic a**hole. I guess he’s planning on getting a Fred Flintstone car to drive his fat ass around and light his house with candles.
What a fool and for the life of me I cannot understand people who voted for this dope.

  18. Franklyfrank says:

    We aren’t all a**holes.

  19. Alisa says:

LMAO!! 😀 They even kinda look-a-like haha!! Maybe they really are twins that were separated at birth.

  20. Alisa says:

Can you imagine what this world would be like if they ever got their way & got rid of all us nice folks & the only people left were them–the nasty, evil people? What a nightmare!!!

Think NWO One World Government with the Antichrist as its leader.

  21. Alisa says:

Ooops!! That I did. Hard to tell on this nag as both ends look alike.

  22. Alisa says:

What if you showed him the article I posted above, or if you could find video of the interview that bigbug UN official did, where she point blank comes out arrogantly & for once telling the truth that the global warming lie is all about destroying Capitalism. Would hearing It straight from the horses mouth open his eyes to the truth?

  23. Billy TwoKnives says:

Money, money, money. Lying, scheming, plotting to get it. Scheming, plotting lying to get it. Plotting, scheming, lying to get it. It’s what democrats do. They have it down to a science. No one can best a Democrat at deviousness. Shake hands with a Democrat count your fingers when you get your hand back.

  24. Callawyn says:

Exxon is suing California over something similar.

Seems whenever CA wants to issue bonds, they NEVER mention that “climate change” might affect the tax payments that will be used to pay back the bonds, despite claiming that “climate change” is a significant risk to their economy when suing Exxon for payoffs.

Should do the same to NY.

What are the odds that NY State, or any government within the state, has noted the “risks” of “climate change” in their public information when trying to sell bonds?

  25. rocketride says:

And good luck* with the blogging part.

    * And by ‘good luck’, I mean ‘may they f–k off and die in the ignonimity and squalor’ they’d gleefully inflict on the rest of us.

It would probably be fun to watch, in a ‘game of Thrones’-y kind of way, from a great distance.

  27. Mr. Freemarket says:

Sadly with no cell service, nor electricity to power their phones or internet, they will be reduced to communicating with two tin cans attached by a string. Oh the humanity!!!

  28. Mr. Freemarket says:

While the deadly gases spewed anywhere in the world have caused NY’s massive suffering, locally emitted gases probably have the most local influence. (If they aren’t going to be bound by science, then neither am I). Therefore, we should stop all local emissions.

At least it is a start.

  29. ICEvictim says:

no. I sent him multiple links to papers by Scafetta, Nikolov and Zeller, etc. and he keeps ranting on about all the usual BS of rising oceans, etc. He works in marketing over in the Peoples Palace of Minneapolis so he is surrounded by the type of people that revel in being more socially responsible than everyone else because “they care” more than you do.

It’s not about objective facts and empirical evidence, i.e. real science, it’s about being accepted by the self described alpha herd. By way of explanation, I’m an engineer. We can ONLY deal in facts and empirical data.

  30. Alisa says:

Sorry to hear your son has been so overwhelmed by the dark side he’s too far gone to bring back to reality. 🙁

I’m just your ordinary, average girl who likes to think I have good common sense along with getting the facts straight on any given situation. Along with going with strong gut feelings. I knew (in my gut) back in the mid to late 70s when they started with the warming thing & removed Freon from fridges & air conditioners that it wasn’t right. I didn’t have any hard facts but I knew it was BS. All the crap they were saying people were going to have to do, live without conveniences & be in hardship all to save the planet. Didn’t believe it then & as I’ve read about it through the years it only proves I was right from the get go.

Maybe we should send all the global warming idiots starting with Al Bore to Venus. They’d be right at home there & would have real global warming to squawk about!!!

Of course, when they hit the fires of hell they’ll have global warming to their hearts content!!!

I’m thinking front row seats on the balcony of heaven after the Rapture. Be sure to grab a big bowl of popcorn & a large picture of ice cold pop because things will get very interesting very fast then.

  32. pogeybait says:

Perhaps a carbon tax could be placed on every person who lives and works within NYC and everyone could wear little climate hockey stick pins to support the fashionable idea. In fact the mayor could also propose the placing windmills on top of buildings which would not only produce just the right amount of social justice energy but would provide enough wind to cool off the sun and prevent brownouts. Who needs energy companies? .

  33. Mr. Freemarket says:

Excellent suggestions. There is a mighty wind that blows out of NYC 24/7.

  34. rocketride says:

    Works for me.
