NPR: Decolonize Your Bookshelf

It would be hard to imagine a more pernicious waste of taxpayer money than the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds the leftist propaganda outlets PBS and NPR. Now the latter wants us to purge white authors from our private bookshelves:

You may have seen the phrase “decolonize your bookshelf” floating around. In essence, it is about actively resisting and casting aside the colonialist ideas of narrative, storytelling, and literature that have pervaded the American psyche for so long.

“Colonialist” means “Caucasian.” To decolonize a bookshelf means to throw William Shakespeare in the trash to make room for rubbish published on the basis of skin color.

If you are white, take a moment to examine your bookshelf. What do you see? What books and authors have you allowed to influence your worldview, and how you process the issues of racism and prejudice toward the disenfranchised? Have you considered that, if you identify as white and read only the work of white authors, you are in some ways listening to an extension of your own voice on repeat? While the details and depth of experience may differ, white voices have dominated what has been considered canon for eons. That means non-white readers have had to process stories and historical events through a white author’s lens. The problem goes deeper than that, anyway, considering that even now 76% of publishing professionals — the people you might call the gatekeepers — are white.

America is still 73% white, despite the best efforts of Democrats to supplant the country’s core population through open borders and the welfare state (in 1940, it was 89.8% white). Looks like we need more Affirmative Action to prevent whites from working in publishing.

The percentage of whites who made significant contributions to Western Civilization is far higher. This is for the obvious reason that Western Civilization was created by Europeans. Likewise, most significant contributions to Chinese civilization have been made by Chinese. But the Chinese are not denounced as racist, because no one is trying to eradicate both their culture and their people, as liberals have been succeeding at doing to the core population of the West.
