NYC Merchant Looted for Selling Novelty Lighter

Michael Bloomberg’s authoritarian jihad against the right to bear arms has lurched so far into self-parody, a tourist shop has been fined $60,000 for selling cigarette lighters shaped like tiny pistols:

“We don’t have the money,” said Fred Shayes, 49, who owns US Camera & Computer Inc. near Penn Station. “I would have to take a loan out from the bank to pay that.”

But as Shrillary memorably pointed out, our rulers don’t concern themselves with the plight of undercapitalized businesses.

Under city law, toy guns can’t be sold in the city unless they are bright green, blue, red or a neon color.

It’s not a toy, you say? It’s a lighter? Quiet. Lighters facilitate smoking; Bloomberg might double the fine.

Inspectors for the Bloomberg Regime assert that the lighters could be confused with real handguns, as if that justified banning them. Judge for yourself:

After the thugs appeared at his shop, Shayes pulled the lighters off the shelf immediately and returned them to the manufacturer. Not good enough. Maintaining a bloated obscenity the size of New York City’s government costs money. This may be the reason officials shake down business owners over trifles rather than address crime.

Shayes may have to go out of business because of the fine. The Mafia would have left him with enough to keep the doors open, so they could shake him down again in the future. But our statist rulers are not as forward-thinking or responsible as the Mafia. They assume there will always be someone else to loot and destroy.

On tips from Sean C, Dr. 9, and Mickey Shea.

My gawd I hate liberals. Thieving, lying, cheating, greedy thugs is all the bastards are. They destroy everything in their paths – purposely. Worthless crap-eating faggots.

  2. stopprintn says:

Since it is not a ‘toy’ gun the law should not apply, I believe lighters can be any color……..for now!

  3. Spider says:

In the event queen Bloomberg has any notions of going for a national political office, this is what the rest of the country has in store. And, when you are the worlds most arrogant elitist, and you’ve got $27+ BILLION, there aren’t too many jobs you can’t get. BEWARE!

  4. A. Levy says:

Actually, the TSA would have treated it the same way when boarding a plane. Yes, they’re just as nuts as Bloomberg is.

  5. KHarn says:

This is an example of why American businesses have been moving overseas.

Even in the 1990s, a woman had to give up her earrings to the airport cops because they had dime-sized pistols on them.

Once I was told during the same decade that I couldn’t have a bullet on my key ring even though it had a small chain running through it. Fighting an urge to tell the officious jerk that it couldn’t even FIT into a gun, I tossed the bullet to my dad and walked through the checkpoint without waiting for the “exalted permission” of this representative of our “noble and good” government.

Kinda looks like a Smith and Wesson 9. So there is 100% employment in Nanny’s fiefdom? Crime rate is zero? Ohh…they don’t have anything more important to worry about. It must be nice.

  9. Elizabeth says:

That’s an automatic rifle killing machine right there. If it saves one kid, ban it.

  10. bobdog says:

When I saw the photo of that ghastly assault weapon, a shiver of horror went down my spine and I think I peed myself a little.

Clearly a throwback to an earlier time. Like four years ago, back when our constitutional rights were a little more assured.
