Obama Approves Drone Strikes on American Citizens in USA Without Due Process

Mortal fear of the federal government isn’t just for the tinfoil hat set anymore — not now that the Obama Regime has authorized extrajudicial executions of American citizens on American soil using drones. Even the normally subservient toadies at NBC are alarmed:

The secrecy surrounding such strikes is fast emerging as a central issue in this week’s hearing of White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan, a key architect of the drone campaign, to be CIA director. Brennan was the first administration official to publicly acknowledge drone strikes in a speech last year, calling them “consistent with the inherent right of self-defense.” In a separate talk at the Northwestern University Law School in March, Attorney General Eric Holder specifically endorsed the constitutionality of targeted killings of Americans, saying they could be justified if government officials determine the target poses “an imminent threat of violent attack.”

But the confidential Justice Department “white paper” [PDF available here] introduces a more expansive definition of self-defense or imminent attack than described by Brennan or Holder in their public speeches. It refers, for example, to what it calls a “broader concept of imminence” than actual intelligence about any ongoing plot against the U.S. homeland.

“The condition that an operational leader present an ‘imminent’ threat of violent attack against the United States does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons and interests will take place in the immediate future,” the memo states.

Instead, it says, an “informed, high-level” official of the U.S. government may determine that the targeted American has been “recently” involved in “activities” posing a threat of a violent attack and “there is no evidence suggesting that he has renounced or abandoned such activities.” The memo does not define “recently” or “activities.”

Note that a new study funded in part by Homeland Security has recently characterized those who are “reverent of individual liberty” and/or “suspicious of centralized federal authority” as “extreme right-wing” terrorists. The pieces are in place for the federal government to assassinate you for believing in the principles this country was founded on. The judicial system need not be involved.

According to the memo, assassination by drone may be authorized if arresting the patriot terrorist would pose an “undue risk” to government personnel. Whether they will call in a drone strike on your house because you went to a Tea Party event and have a CCW depends on how far this Hopey Changey thing is allowed to go.

These developments fit smoothly among other harbingers of tyranny listed by Doug Ross:

The Department of Homeland Security recently acquired 2 billion rounds of ammunition.

Newly released drone records have revealed extensive military flights inside the U.S.

When can the U.S. kill Americans? The White House won’t say — and won’t even tell Congress.

The FBI director said in March he’d have to check whether the president can assassinate citizens inside the U.S.

The military recently deployed gunships over Miami.

Police departments throughout the country are receiving tanks, humvees and drones.

Anyone still wonder why the Democrats are pushing a gun grab?

Possibly watching you — through crosshairs.

I’m not worried. I’m gonna use my AR-15 to shoot down any possible drones. Jesse Jackson says I can do that.

Of course Obama wouldn’t target American citizens unless they were really bad. Like those bad folks in Waco Texas.

  3. Skyfall says:

Sam, don’t invoke Waco. I actually KNEW Vern Howell and he was a total phoney whack-job who used his gift of gab to get money and under-age girls. (He believed he was actually the Messiah about as much as I do.) Those folks were (mostly) nuts and sooner or later would have died in some sort of shoot out or mass suicide.

That said, I’m with you (and Jesse!). It’s SO transparent why they want any weapon that could possibly be used for anything besides target shooting or hunting jack-rabbits. “Gee, I guess THOSE guns couldn’t be used to kill kids.” Hey, Barack…we had a guy use a car to kill about 20 people at a farmer’s market. Shall we outlaw those? (My suggestion: start with the Chevy Volt.)

  4. oldguy says:

    The Republican party is finished.

  5. Sam Adams says:

Skyfall, that’s actually the point. The government never targets popular/normal people, just “whack jobs.” We are soon approaching the 20th anniversary of Waco. The government used the “save the children” excuse for killing a lot of American citizens (and their children).

Personally I don’t care if the whack job in charge of Waco was targeting underage girls, old ladies and their SS checks, or smoking dope. None of those justify capital punishment.

BTW, Toyota is giving up on the Pruis.

    The Republican party is finished.

With John McCain agreeing to not filibuster Chuck Hagel’s nomination for Secretary of State, why shouldn’t we rejoice over the demise of the republican party?

  8. Dr. 9 says:

It seems the NY Slimes took a slap in the face today in their effort to ban guns. They were attempting to get all the info on NYC’s “legal” gun owners. (they wouldn’t dare publish a list of criminal gun users) They were also looking for crime stats in an attempt to link the two, as in, “see, legal gun owners commit crimes“. They were stopped by what is normally a very liberal court. Amazing!

  9. Spider says:

I wonder if we can program the drones to hit leftist Demoncrats only. Now that would be my idea of a utopia!

So Obama displays a general garment, and you immediately assume it is cut to your fit?

This is targeting actual terrorists, not wannabe hillfolk who dream of replacing Obama with a cardboard cutout of a KKK leader or whatever.

I looove that this is somehow all about you and your ilk. Can’t be about actual terrorists who we should legitimately be exploding… (unless… is the deal here that you wish you were actually terrorists? Are you actually dangerous lunatics rather than harmless cranks and crackpots, who foresee drones coming to take your bibles and guns by force?)

  15. MissAnthropy says:

Prior to Obama’s inauguration in January 2009, Rose here would have been one of those screaming bloody murder about Bushitler and Darth Cheney targeting American citizens with drone attacks.

And what sort of dumbshit doesn’t intuitively know that this will progress to a more generalized tool of “homeland security”? Government power only ever grows, it’s like a malignant tumor in that regard.

  16. Skyfall says:

Point taken Sam, but Waco was a shootout waiting to happen. Vern Howell knew the gig was up, and he wasn’t about to go to jail. I’m just pointing out that Waco wasn’t all Janet Reno storming the gates…it was more “suicide by cop”.

Again, though…I’m with you. This is getting to be more and more like Germany in the late 20’s. We see it coming, the masks are off, Obama is as clear as Hitler with Mein Kampf and yet because most people just watch the MSM (and because we’ve got a majority with their hand out depending on the gov’t), it’s come to this.

    We are so screwed.

And rose? You are the poster child for “obedience to the state”.

Yeah, there could NEVER be a case where this kind of power could be mis-used. There will NEVER be a tyrannical politician who’d turn the military on the civilian population. We can TRUST the government in all things, so let’s give up our guns and ANY means to defend ourselves, ’cause Obama’s got our backs!

Yeah, we’re just hillbillies clinging to our guns and Bibles, just stupid little sod-busters who are skeerd of them furiners who live way up in the big city.

I’m upset about some of the commentary about the massacre of the innocents at Mount Carmel – “Waco.” Those people moved out in the boonies because they wanted to be left alone. It’s our government’s fault that that is considered criminal.

As for this thread it’s excellent. It’s not sensational or exaggerated. It is a very accurate assessment of the obama regime’s contempt for us.

Technology is indeed making what was once science fiction reality. Now that the election is over, what’s to stop the Obama Regime, under cover of executive secrecy, from having the “flexibility” to use a weaponized ARGUS drone to make its enemies “disappear” … very much like Star Trek fans will recall the evil Captain Kirk did with Star Trek’s Tantalus field.

Many Americans are waking up to the fact that America fundamentally transformed with hopey change represents just as draconian a parallel universe as was the one in the Star Trek episode.

Mere coincidence that the second time the Tantalus field appeared was in Star Trek: The Adventures of Argus: “Trial By Fire”)?

If any sane legislators are still left in the House, they should have full congressional hearings. Whatever happened to those Democraps who where all up in arms about this type of stuff when BOOSH was president?

  30. Skyfall says:

Vic, I knew Vernon Howell, OK? He was a total con man who was into getting people to give him money (and, it turns out, their under-age daughters as well). They weren’t a nice bunch of people moving to the country to be left alone. They were a bunch of very paranoid people in a cult who were armed to the teeth and lead by an even more paranoid grifter/pedophile.

I’m not trying to belabor this point, but it’s not like this was a Tea Party headquarters that was stormed by jackbooted thugs for no reason. There was a LOT more going on there than just a religious group who’d dropped out of society. Trust me.

  31. Skyfall says:

By the way, I DO believe we’re going to see people who are NOT a threat, who are NOT a whack-job cult start to be targeted in a very deadly way, and soon. This is why I want to separate the Waco style crowd from what’s coming down the pike.

  32. Arrest Obama NOW! says:

Tens of thousands of people need to surround the White House and demand that Obama be placed under arrest for declaring war on the US Constitution and the American People!

Obama does not have the right to kill innocent American Citizens based on the UNSUBSTANTIATED CLAIM that they MAY be terrorists!

The claim that he OBAMA has these right is absurd on the face of it and TOTALLY FALSE!

Actually not a far fetched idea at all. Most engineers that I have met tend to be quite conservative (if they build crap that fails, it makes the national news, therefore, they are conservative).

Unfortunatly their political overlords are likely to keep them in check.

Precisely. If you can justify killing one whack job, then it doesn’t take much effort to kill the next somewhat less whacked job, followed by another even less whacked job, until they get to you.

I don’t care if the guy leading Waco was a lunatic; still no justification for capital punishment. Even if 20 of those in the compound were loonie toons or completely evil, no justification for killing the innocents there. Of course, once they opened fire, it was Katie bar the door as far as the feds were concerned.

Obama has violated that oath and must be charged!

I heartily agree, but here is the reality of it: Unless/until the Republicans get their act together and get a solid Senate Majority they might impeach, but will never convict, Obama. Even if they do, two words: President Biden.

Further, with the current House makeup I’m not even positive they can impeach Obama – not that he doesn’t deserve it, of course.

  39. Bob Roberts says:

The main point of my last post is that it’s dire that Republicans get House and Senate SOLID majorities in the 2014 mid term elections then take up impeachment as soon as they pass sweeping legislation to undo many key moonbat objectives, have Obama veto it then pass it over his veto. That (a veto-proof majority along with a clear and solid impeach/convict majority) sets the numbers Republicans need to have after 2014 elections are done.

  40. Bob Roberts says:

BTW the leading (title) sentence in this particular thread may not be 100% accurate – take out the “In USA” part and it certainly is, but whether or not they’ve actually (at least not OPENLY) said they can take out Americans IN AMERICA is subject to debate.

Not that I think for a second they would hesitate, mind you. Remember what Clinton ordered done to the Branch Davidians April 19, 1993 near Waco, TX?

For over 50 days they showed the world what a do-nothing guy Clinton was and that became intolerable for him.

    So he overreacted.

55 adults and 28 children were found dead after Clinton’s orders were carried out, yet I didn’t hear anyone suggesting we ban government as a result!

The doublespeak of Obama’s blind followers (Toure, anyone?) scares the hell out of me. Whatever he does is right, no matter how contradictory to his words or previous actions.

    To Rose,
It matters not who he is “targeting” with this executive power. What matters is whether you believe we are a nation of laws based on the principles of a constitutional republic as defined in our founding documents. You either do, and must be alarmed at these developments, or you don’t and so belittle those that are concerned about the usurpation of power as “crazy”, or “deluded” or whatever red herring you choose to pursue. The fact is, these powers are unconstitutional and are therefore illegal, and it is only a matter of time before the political powers that be, whether Republican or Democrat, decide they’ve had enough with the opposition and they are through sharing power. If that does not concern you, you must be very ignorant of history and the nature of politics and human beings.

  48. Long Purple says:

“No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed. “ – U S Constitution

    Definition: — bill of attainder
    n. pl. bills of attainder
A legislative act pronouncing a person guilty of a crime, usually treason, without trial and subjecting that person to capital punishment and attainder. Such acts are prohibited by the U.S. Constitution.

An act the Constitution forbids the Congress to do by passing a law, with all the safeguards and checks and balances built into that legislative process, is somehow assumed – by the President – to be within the legitimate authority of the President. The power to declare guilt, especially guilt of “treason”, and to punish that “guilt” by death, is exercisable on his sole judgment.

By what convoluted logic does the President, a single elected official, rationalize his “authority” to do something that is specifically forbidden by the Constitution to the elected bodies of the Senate and House of Representatives, numbering over 500 elected officials in total?

On what basis does he elevate his power to serve as judge, jury, and executioner — in direct contravention of a Constitutional prohibition of such a tyrannical power forbidden to the Congress.

If that power is recognized as a form of tyranny to be denied the Senate and House of Representatives, in spite of the safeguards inherent in the legislative process, then “a fortiori”, it must surely be tyranny when exercised by the President.
