Obama Regime Moves to Kill Coal Industry

In terms of energy, coal is our most abundant resource. That is why it is used to generate about half of our electricity, and why Barack Hussein Obama promised before he was elected to make energy prices “skyrocket” by crippling the coal industry with malevolent regulations openly intended to bankrupt it. Using the most frightening bureaucracy in the entire malignant behemoth that calls itself our government, Obama has made good on this threat by targeting dozens of coal plants for destruction. Now his EPA delivers the death blow:

The Obama administration proposed on Tuesday the first rules to cut carbon dioxide emissions from new U.S. power plants, a move hotly contested by Republicans and industry in an election year.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal would effectively stop the building of most new coal-fired plants in an industry that is moving rapidly to more natural gas.

Natural gas is obtained largely by fracking, which liberals also oppose. If Obama is reelected, it will almost certainly be severely curtailed if not banned.

While the proposal does not dictate which fuels a plant can burn, it requires any new coal plants to use costly technology to capture and store the emissions underground. Any new coal-fired plants would have to halve carbon dioxide emissions to match those of gas plants.

Carbon dioxide, an essential plant nutrient that is produced by literally all human activity including breathing, has never been proven to be in any way harmful, except in the fever dreams of rabidly anti-human environmentalist fanatics.

Under the new standards, coal plants could add equipment to capture and bury underground for permanent storage their carbon emissions. The rules give utilities time to get those systems running, by requiring they average the emissions cuts over 30 years. Still, the coal-burning industry says that carbon capture and storage, known as CCS, is not yet commercially available.

Jackson said the EPA believes the technology will be ready soon. “Every model that we’ve seen shows that technology as it develops will become commercially available certainly within the next 10 years”.

If our socialist rulers can predict what the weather will be like decades from now if they don’t impose further taxes and regulations, why shouldn’t they be able to predict what technologies will exist? Their authoritarian arrogance has grown so vast that they believe reality itself is subject to bureaucratic coercion.

The consequences of this lunacy for our economy will be obvious to an idiot, and possibly even to some Democrats.

These are the same progs who are always bitching that drilling now won’t have any affect for 10 years… for the last 30 years.

These are also the same progs that have been shrieking that every model they have seen shows the planet on fire in the next ten years… for the last 30 years.

Henry, DECADE is the stand Liberal unit of measure. Everything either will or can’t happen for a decade.

Which is all the more reason to believe that there might be some reason (race riots) why Obama MUST remain President, elections and the law be damned.

Just like wind power has been used for thousands of years, and still isn’t commercially viable without HEAVY government subsidies.

Bureaucrats with no practical knowledge of the things they’re regulating.

They’re morons. I deal with them on a daily basis. They have no idea of the technology presently available to deal with these problems CO2 is NOT a pollutant! Progressive assholes.

  7. AC says:

Just think of all the reduced electrical load when the social justice marchers in Sanford sever the power lines.

Sever and steal the copper. Perhaps mimicking the satisfying sizzle of a bug light in the process.

Better load up on batteries for your NVGs.

  9. Sam Adams says:

There is a coal fired plant in Utah that supplies power to California….possibly Nancy’s district.

Personally I believe we should start by shutting off all coal fired plant power that goes to California.

Let them freeze/sweat in the dark.

  10. StanInTexas says:

So they want to lower the electrical load in this nation, while at the same time introducing ELECTRIC CARS to comabt global warming??????????

  11. AC says:

And, on top of all that, they still vehemently oppose the reliable, cheap baseload power provided by nuclear energy, which works great for charging electric vehicles at night.

The reason washington state isn’t in the mix up there in that graphic is because we’ve got a lot of hydropower. But the moonbats are working on that too. Just yesterday there was an article in the Seattle Times about how they’re putting back to productive use the land that was under the water of aquifers of the dams that’ve been removed. By “putting back to productive use” they mean the land is being reseeded so that it will go back to wilderness. Reclaiming land to moonbats means taking it away from human use and letting it go wild.

Actually, CO2 is a pollutant, when it is escaping from Leftists’ pie-holes.

Have you noticed that when a democrat is president, his “enemies” are always domestic. American companies are under constant assault from democrats and their bottom feeding lawyers. I say, get the hell out! It’s sad that I have more balls than any republican congressman and I’m female.

Proof positive that the EPA should be one of the first agencies that should disappear. You can use the excuse of “budget cuts” if you wish, but the EPA needs to disappear into the dustbin of history.

  19. Bob Roberts says:

I say this with sadness, not revenge, in mind: Those people who live or work in the coal industry or states that depend on it are getting what they deserve. I hope they’re wiser in 2012 and, as a result, they get what they deserve based on their smarter (hopefully) voting then, too.

  20. bobdog says:

This is serious. The EPA should immediately target wasteful electricity-hogging consumers of power that are unnecessary. Like electric cars, which place an unnecessary and growing burden on the nation’s aging electrical grid, do not contribute their Fair Share(tm) of tax revenues from gasoline purchases, and unfairly rob farmers of federal ethanol subsidies. Clearly, a punitive new tax penalty on electrically powered vehicles is needed.

  21. cmon people says:

Wait… is there not a single sane person among you?

This post says, and each and every one of you appears to believe, the statement “Carbon dioxide… has never been proven to be in any way harmful…“.

Go to the Wikipedia page for the planet Venus. I’ll wait.

There you see an example, that you can see with your very own eyes (and a telescope), of the effect of ‘greenhouse effect’ CO2 being… harmful. 900 degrees is hot enough to melt lead. Hotter than Mercury (the one right next to the sun…). Any of that seem like it might qualify as “harmful”?

If you want to talk about emissions sources (obviously there are no humans on Venus), that is a conversation… but humans do add CO2 to the atmosphere (fact), and there is a very obvious example of what happens after some tipping point – toast. (fact). We do not know what that point might be, but it exists. 100% for certain.

Again, you (well, not you, but people with means and training) can literally observe this in real time. It is not ‘imagined by the left’ (again… no humans on Venus, hence to ‘leftists’ to have caused it), and it is not ‘harmless’…

So in summary… 100% of the readers above me are too stupid/uninformaed to take offense at the blatant ignorance on display. Know why the ‘educated elite’ are called that? We are educated. Which apparently does make us elite.

Come on by and apologize, folks. Now you know (“and knowing is half the battle!”). I trust that you will now educate your fellow red-staters on the factual basis of reality, and you will take offense when people assume you are too stupid to know these things. Right?
