ObamaCare Punishes Readmissions, Driving Up Mortality Rate

Where you have ham-fisted, one-size-fits-all, centralized coercion, you have unintended consequences. ObamaCare is no exception. One goal of ObamaCare is to reduce costs by punishing hospitals that have above-average readmissions for Medicare patients. The result:

Researchers found that the 30-day readmission rate (adjusted for patient risk) declined to 18.4% from 20% after the penalties were introduced. Yet the 30-day mortality rate increased to 8.6% from 7.2%—about 5,400 additional deaths per year. Over a one-year period the readmission rate fell by 0.9 percentage points while the mortality rate rose by five.

To avoid being punished by the bureauweenies in Washington, hospitals are forced to avoid readmissions any way they can. Patients die as a consequence.

In fairness, progressive technocrats might argue that this reduces strain on the healthcare system, because dead people don’t require medical care.

Obamacare should be renamed “population management”…. The whole point of the program was to dictate the US population from who lives and who dies to what people can consume. Of course that gives the federal government every power in the world from dictating population to dictating the economy…. It’s amazing how many people fell for it and cant even see the intent.. The notion that the establishment cares about people or health is hilarious. These assholes only care about one thing and that is micromanaging society hence outcomes that are favorable to them. They just cloak their agenda in virtue signaling bullshit because they know many people are dumb enough to believe the progressive and republican establishment cares about people. Truth is we’re just sheep to these psychopaths….. They don’t give a fuck who dies from what disease or who is murdered.. If they actually cared they would get hard on urban crime but they don’t because if they did they would be considered “racists” by their own standards, so cities like Chicago are a free for all when it comes to crime and murder…

Sorry for the rant but my assertion of the governments intentions is true.

It’s no joke guys. The hospitals that the healthcare company I work for is affiliated with get penalized (as in little or no reimbursement) for any readmission of patients with Congestive Heart Failure or other serious diagnosis’ if that readmission takes place within “X” number of days after an earlier hospital discharge. Home Care agencies love it because these patients are covered for home care and equipment (oxygen, hospital bed, etc) rentals. But the patient often doesn’t get the quality of personal care needed.
And the libs want ALL health care run by the government calling it “Medicare for all.” I think of it more as “VA-care for all.” I’m convinced that I’m alive today because I was able to steer clear of the VA medical system when I was diagnosed with cancer.

The establishment knows this, which shows you how truly evil they are… They don’t really care, the only thing the establishment cares about is the best way to manage the US population while appearing to look good in the process, and progressives know half this country cant turn down free shit so they say “let them eat cake”…

Oh and the best part is, if you’re in a life or death situation doctors have to save you, so it’s not like lifesaving medial care was ever denied…. Yes, if you have a prolonged illness that may kill you someday it will be difficult to find a private insurer, however medicare will still provide care..

What has changed under Obamacare? absolutely nothing other than premiums going through the roof…….The same people that were on medicare or medicaid are still on medicare or medicaid – they just think they have “free insurance” because it has a different name now…

The whole healthcare debate is such garbage that I could puke coat hangers……The people that argue for a single-payer system act like if they cut their arm and needed stitches that would somehow be denied to them if they couldn’t afford it….

The issue should be about preexisting conditions, but it’s not – it’s implied that if something happens you will die if you don’t have health insurance…

Truth is the federal government wants us all on medicare in an attempt to manage both social and economic outcomes…

Look, this debate wouldn’t even exist if we allowed insurance providers weren’t forbidden from doing business outside of their respective states…. If I live in Chicago I should be allowed to buy insurance from Florida, but I cant …. If insurance was a competitive market then insurance wouldn’t be so expensive – it would be cheap…..

But hey, this is all by design. And trust me, the democrats have absolutely ZERO incentive to create a marketplace because “unaffordable insurance” is one of the democrats main talking points, so what incentive do they have to create affordable free market insurance? right they have no incentive, so the only solution would be to let our government control insurance because that means they and dictate who lives, who dies, who can eat a cheeseburger, who cant, who can live where, who cant…..

Unfortunately progressives are using the sick as hostages er pawns in a political game…. Of course that’s why they’re evil – terrible people….. I wish people would wake up and see this…….

The free market is a solution to everything…. Insurance should be treated as any other product.

Unintended consequences to a government program.

    Who would have thought????

  6. Mr. Freemarket says:

It is clearly unfair for healthcare to be provided on the basis of who can pay. Therefore the government has taken over to decide who gets what care. So bureaucrats now will dictate who lives and who dies.

I am so comforted by the compassion and knowledge of those who are fully qualified to work at the local DMV.

Years ago, I read where the NHS wanted to improve service so they established a rule that when a patient entered an ER, he would have to be served within X minutes.

Rather than increase staff to handle the load, hospital administrators stood outside the entrance to the ER and prevented ambulances from offloading their patients until they could be seen in the allotted time, thus having those ambulances idling in the parking lot rather than being available to transport other patients. Unintended consequences indeed.

Government promotes smoking, drinking, overeating due to GMO food, and poor food quality, environmental ignorance (e.g., spraying fruits and vegetables with glyphosates [Round Up] to enhance crop sizes and kill honeybees in the process), high taxes causing stress, etc. What more can you ask for from a benevolent government?!?!?!!?

Best way to fix the problem: Start demonstrating at politicians’ offices and town hall meetings that we all want single-payor health insurance—the same insurance that Congress gets. This way, no more discrimination and Equal Protection Under the Law.
