WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans are taking aim at the Environmental Protection Agency, targeting the way officials use science to develop new regulations.

A bill approved Wednesday by the GOP-controlled House would require that data used to support new regulations to protect human health and the environment be released to the public.

Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, said “the days of ‘trust me’ science are over,” adding that the House bill would restore confidence in the EPA’s decision-making process.

And it was 0% when it came to papers that supported AGW:

Fewer Than 1 Percent Of Papers in Scientific Journals Follow Scientific Method

Fewer than 1 percent of papers published in scientific journals follow the scientific method, according to research by Wharton School professor and forecasting expert J. Scott Armstrong.
Professor Armstrong, who co-founded the peer-reviewed Journal of Forecasting in 1982 and the International Journal of Forecasting in 1985, made the claim in a presentation about what he considers to be “alarmism” from forecasters over man-made climate change.

“We also go through journals and rate how well they conform to the scientific method. I used to think that maybe 10 percent of papers in my field … were maybe useful. Now it looks like maybe, one tenth of one percent follow the scientific method” said Armstrong in his presentation, which can be watched in full below. “People just don’t do it.”

Papers that support AGW use the “because we say so” method that liberals used to replace the Scientific method in this and other fields, such as studies of homosexuality, for instance.

Judge who illegally blocked Trump’s revised travel EO illegally extends his illegal block.

A federal judge in Hawaii who temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s revised travel ban hours before it was set to take effect issued a longer-lasting order Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson held a hearing Wednesday on Hawaii’s request to extend his temporary hold. Several hours later, he issued a 24-page order blocking the government from suspending new visas for travelers from six Muslim-majority countries and halting the U.S. refugee program.

Chad Readler, a Department of Justice attorney defending Trump’s executive order, told the judge via telephone that Hawaii hasn’t shown how it is harmed by various provisions, including one that would suspend the nation’s refugee program.

This month, Watson prevented the federal government from suspending new visas for people from six countries and freezing the nation’s refugee program. The ruling came just hours before the ban was to take effect.

Watson, nominated to the bench by former President Barack Obama in 2012, agreed with Hawaii that the ban would hurt the state’s tourism-dependent economy and that it discriminates based on nationality and religion.

Trump called the ruling an example of “unprecedented judicial overreach.”

That it is… that it is.

These Hispanic contractors offered to build Trump’s border wall. Then the death threats began

They’ve received death threats and had profanities and rocks hurled at them. One company’s tractor was stolen.

For the few Hispanic-owned construction firms daring to bid on building a piece of President Trump’s border wall, this is the emotional price of doing business.

Owners say they have been accused of betraying their community. Some say they have had to swallow their own qualms about Trump’s contentious immigration policies.

“A lot of people are saying, ‘You’re Latino. How can you build a wall to keep other Latinos out?’ We had to do a lot of soul-searching before we jumped into this because it’s obviously a very, very controversial topic,” said Michael Evangelista-Ysasaga, chief executive and owner of the Penna Group, a firm based in Fort Worth.

Evangelista-Ysasaga, whose grandparents emigrated from Mexico, said he fielded five death threats one morning alone this week from “random people calling into the office and just screaming.”

Every sovereign nation has a duty to defend its borders, he told callers. Unfortunately, he said, a “certain segment” of American Latinos have cast supporters of the border wall as “racist.”

Work on the border wall has stirred such impassioned reactions that only a tiny fraction of the country’s nearly half-million Hispanic-owned construction firms are even considering profiting from Trump’s wall.

Of the approximately 200 companies that have responded to the federal government’s two requests for proposals for a solid concrete border wall and another wall design, at least 32 companies are Hispanic-owned, according to a Washington Post analysis of a federal database. The deadline for proposals has been extended to April 4.

Border Patrol Agents Assaulted by Increasingly Aggressive Illegal Immigrants

Several illegal immigrants attacked Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Sector during a 24-hour period.
Two agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Station sustained minor injuries when a Guatemalan national attacked them during an arrest. The man struck one agent in the neck with his elbow and kicked the other agents, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from U.S. Border Patrol Supervisory Agent Marlene Castro. The agents fought with the suspect and eventually placed him under arrest. The Guatemalan is charged with assault on a federal officer. The agents sustained minor injuries during the assault.

At about that same time, a Mexican national “became aggressive” with agents attempting to take him into custody. The illegal alien charged the Weslaco Border Patrol Station agents after crossing the border near Progreso Lakes, Texas. After wrestling the Mexican national to the ground, the agents placed him in handcuffs and arrested him. While the agents marched the suspect to their vehicle, the Mexican man attacked them again by attempting to strike the agents. Castro did not indicate if there were any injuries sustained by the agents. Charges against the man are pending at this time.

The following morning, another aggressive Mexican national attempted to escape custody by throwing dirt at an agent assigned to the McAllen Border Patrol Station. The dirt struck the agent in the face, leaving him temporarily blinded. The Mexican alien fled. Other agents searched for the suspect and eventually took him into custody. The agent was transported to a local hospital where he was “medically cleared,” Castro stated. Charges against the Mexican national are currently pending.

“Apprehension levels began to decrease as law, policy, and strategy aligned. Unfortunately, we are now seeing an increase in assaults against our agents,” Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla, Jr. said in a written statement. “Attacks against agents will not be tolerated and we will work to pursue prosecution against violators.”

Just put out the word that aggression may be met with deadly force.

Fed Officials Say They May Need to Pick Up Pace of Rate Increases
Officials warn more than the 3 raises now projected for 2017 may be justified if the economy tops expectations.

Most Federal Reserve officials expect to raise short-term interest rates two more times this year, but some are now warning a brightening economic outlook could prompt them to lift borrowing costs even more.

Fed Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer, a close ally of Chairwoman Janet Yellen, reaffirmed the consensus view Tuesday, telling CNBC the central bank’s recent projection of two more rate increases this year in addition to the one earlier this month “seems to be about right, that is to say, it’s my forecast as well.”

Some officials, however, say they see a good chance the economy will perform better than expected (thanks to Trump and the Republicans)—called upside risk in central-bank jargon—either because of its own strength or if it gets a boost from new tax, spending and regulatory policies sought by the Trump administration. If so, that could justify more Fed rate increases than currently envisioned to prevent the economy from overheating.

Seattle Files Lawsuit Over ‘Sanctuary Cities’ Funding Threat

In any fair court it would be thrown out – Seattle hasn’t got a basis for the suit – haven’t been harmed yet.

The city of Seattle on Wednesday announced a federal lawsuit over the Trump administration’s threat to withhold federal grants to so-called “sanctuary cities,” citing the 10th Amendment that deals with states’ rights.

“Apparently the Trump administration, their war on facts, has now become a war on cities,” Seattle Mayor Ed Murray said. He said the goal of the suit is to have a judge declare the order unconstitutional.

President Donald Trump on Jan. 25 signed an executive order directing the federal government to ensure that jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with immigration officials are not eligible to receive some federal grants.

“These jurisdictions have caused immeasurable harm to the American people and to the very fabric of our Republic,” Trump said in the executive order. Trump made illegal immigration a central issue of his campaign.

On Monday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Justice Department would require cities seeking some of $4.1 billion available in grant money to verify that they are in compliance with a section of federal law that allows information sharing with immigration officials.

Debt and deficits are going to explode in the next 30 years, CBO says

Government debt and budget deficits are both set to spiral higher in the coming three decades if current patterns hold, according to new projections released Thursday by the Congressional Budget Office.

The report warns that the rising debt and deficits risk another crisis.

“The prospect of such large and growing debt poses substantial risks for the nation and presents policymakers with significant challenges,” the report said.

Due largely to increases in Medicare and Social Security costs, federal debt will reach 150 percent of gross domestic product in 2047, the CBO report said.

The total current debt held by the public of $14.3 trillion is 77 percent of GDP. The current total debt level of $18.8 trillion is about 101 percent of GDP (the CBO computes debt to GDP based on public debt). The debt-to-GDP ratio would rise to 89 percent in 2027, according to current projections.

The “ANGER ROOM” – a moonbat answer to not being able to control oneself.

Instead of learning not to be violent and destructive, moonbats encourage their own to go the opposite way.

Let’s be honest with ourselves – it sometimes feels good to be bad.

We’ve all experienced those moments of stress or anger when you’re so mad that you just want to break something. But can acting on those impulses help to relieve the stress and tension we feel in those moments?
Well instead of destroying – and repairing or replacing – stuff at home or working to find the answer, there are businesses where, for a fee, you can wreak as much havoc as you want with no consequences.
Anger rooms – as they’re called – have become all the rage for the high-strung person who needs a “safe space” to blow off some steam. When counting to ten, taking deep breaths, or the sage advice to ‘take a chill pill’ doesn’t manage to suppress your wrath, a controlled environment to get the aggression out of your system might do the trick.

  20. Bodhisattva says:

And the moonbats claimed it was Trump who was endangering free speech:

John Podesta slaps the Daily Caller with a cease-and-desist letter

The letter sent to publisher Neil Patel by Podesta’s counsel, Marc Elias, singles out a March 26 article titled, “EXCLUSIVE: John Podesta May Have Violated Federal Law By Not Disclosing 75,000 Stock Shares.” In it, reporter Richard Pollock wrote that Podesta “may have violated federal law by failing to disclose the receipt of 75,000 shares of stock from a Kremlin-financed company when he joined the Obama White House in 2014.”

    The punch line?

Podesta and his clown team sent the letter to the wrong address. Even if it has ANY validity, which it doesn’t, because the article was 100% accurate, to have the desired legal validity and effect, it has to go to the right address.

  21. Bodhisattva says:

I suspect somehow this will eventually be blamed on Trump/Republicans when in fact it’s the fault of Obama/Democrats:

The world has arguably become a much worse place thanks to 8 years of Obama and it’s showing in peoples’ attitudes.

Depression is now the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday, with more than 300 million people suffering.

Rates of depression have risen by more than 18 per cent since 2005, but a lack of support for the mental health combined with a common fear of stigma means many do not get the treatment they need to live healthy, productive lives.

“These new figures are a wake-up call for all countries to re-think their approaches to mental health and to treat it with the urgency it deserves,” Margaret Chan, the WHO’s director-general, said in a statement from the U.N. agency’s Geneva headquarters.

The WHO is running a mental health campaign to tackle stigma and misconceptions called “Depression: Let’s Talk.”

“For someone living with depression, talking to a person they trust is often the first step towards treatment and recovery,” said Shekhar Saxena, director of the WHO’s mental health department.

In Mexico, a man was cleared of raping a 17-year-old girl because he acted without ‘carnal intent’

It seemed as if Daphne might finally get something like justice. Instead, her father’s prediction came true. A judge found that Cruz had touched the victim’s breasts and penetrated her with his fingers. But, the judge said, that didn’t make Cruz guilty of assault, because he’d acted without “carnal intent.” The judge also found that while Daphne was forced into the car, she was never “helpless.” Cruz was deemed innocent.

Well it could have been worse:

An Indian teen was raped by her father. Village elders had her whipped.

In a scene captured on a cellphone video, one of the men wags his finger angrily at her. He rages: This girl must be punished.

A villager ties her waist with rope, holding the other end, and lifts a tree branch into the air. She bows her head. The first lash comes, then another, then another. Ten in all. She lets out a wail.

Eventually the crowd starts murmuring, “Enough, enough,” although nobody moves to stop the beating. Finally, the man throws down his stick. It’s over.

She is 13 years old. Or maybe 15. Her family doesn’t know for sure. She has never set foot in a school and has spent most of her life doing chores at home, occasionally begging for food and performing in her father’s acrobatic show, for which she is given 20 rupees, about 30 cents.

Constructing the Linear Political Spectrum/Compass Part II
“The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground.” Thomas Jefferson

The Linear Political spectrum is based on modern terminology with the Right signifying the desire for limited government and the Left signifying a desire for expanded government. The foundational basis for this spectrum will be a scale ranging from zero (0) to one hundred (100) indicating this modern construct of the Right – Left paradigm. The placement of each ideological term will be determined by a numerical value in the context of this modern paradigm.

The Right end of the scale will begin with anarchism at zero (0) since this indicates an absence of government. The Left end of the scale will conclude with totalitarianism at one hundred (100) since this indicates total government. The middle of the scale will be set with center or moderate at fifty (50).

While it may be difficult to determine a specific numerical value for all the ideological terms, most can be set within a certain range for an accurate and rational placement on the scale. Thus the spectrum will be set on a foundation of facts instead of preconceived and emotional biases.

It should be noted that in general the political Right equates to Conservative or Conservatism defined as follows:

The Oxford English dictionary defines the term Conservatism as:

“The holding of political views that favour free enterprise, private ownership, and socially conservative ideas.”

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines the term Conservatism as:

“a philosophy calling for lower taxes, limited government regulation of business and investing, a strong national defense, and individual financial responsibility for personal needs”

Thus the initial numerical value between fifty (50) and zero (0) can be set on the Right wing of the scale.

[Since the factual dictionary definitions have Conservatism closely associated with the Right the term Conservative Right will be utilized]

The Left wing of the scale is defined as follows:

The Oxford English dictionary defines the term Left Wing as:

The radical, reforming, or socialist section of a political party or system.

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines the term Left wing as:

“the part of a political group that consists of people who support liberal or socialist ideas and policies”

Therefore a numerical range of fifty (50) to one hundred (100) can be set for this term.

[Given that the dictionary definition closely associates Socialism with the Left the term Socialist-Left will be utilized]

These are the general set points for the two ends of the spectrum. Working in from the right, the various ideological terms will be defined and numerical value ranges assigned.

The Oxford English dictionary defines the term libertarianism as:
“An extreme laissez-faire political philosophy advocating only minimal state intervention in the lives of citizens.”

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines the term libertarian as follows:

“a person who believes that people should be allowed to do and say what they want without any interference from the government”

Clearly this should be placed at the right end of the scale next to anarchy such that there is a linear and logical progression from in essence zero (0) government to ‘minimal’ government.

Comparing the definitional data with the scale places Conservatism next to libertarianism. This correlates to the overlap of Conservatism with libertarianism.

Can We Please Give CruzCare a Try?
The Obama solution was to force insurance companies to accept anyone with a pre-existing condition. Obviously this is not going to work because people won’t buy insurance until they get sick and need someone else to pay their expensive bills. So to solve that dilemma, Obama ordered that all people buy health insurance whether they want it or not. Forcing people to buy it ostensibly allows insurance companies to make the money they need to cover all these pre-existing condition patients.

It’s heavy-handed government planning and despite its good intentions, it’s not working. So here’s the Cruz idea in a nutshell:

    1. First, repeal Obamacare entirely. One simple law that ends it, perhaps with the stipulation that some of its provisions be phased out rather than abruptly halted. The phasing must be complete by the end of Trump’s first term, however, or you are inviting disaster.
    2. Mandate insurance be portable, meaning it isn’t tied to your employment. If you lose your job, you don’t lose your health insurance. You have the ability to continue the coverage without interruption as you find new work.
    3. Mandate insurance be continuous and renewable, meaning insurance companies are not allowed to jack up your rates or costs because you get sick – that defeats the whole purpose of insurance. If you have been paying a rate for your coverage, but then get very sick, you must be allowed to renew your insurance at the same premium you’ve been paying. This rewards and encourages responsibility.
    4. Open up the insurance market across state lines – competition will decrease costs as it always does.
    5. Allow people to buy low-cost catastrophic coverage, including the use of health savings accounts.

This is the way forward and it can be done with full Republican support in Congress if leadership would leave their pride behind and get to work. Never mind your feelings and passions about whether Cruz would have been a better choice than Trump, whether he could have beaten Hillary, or any of that. It doesn’t matter.

What does matter is the American people deserve a better healthcare system, Washington seems content with letting them suffer with the one we’ve been given, and Cruz is offering a great idea that deserves support.

Planned Ann Coulter Visit To UC Berkeley Has Organizers Fearing Another Backlash

The planned visit by firebrand conservative commentator Ann Coulter to the University of California, Berkeley has officials and organizers worrying about a repeat of the rioting which greeted Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos.

Coulter’s visit to UC Berkeley isn’t for another month. But student organizers of the event say they are nervous that the visit from the outspoken conservative will spark another massive backlash.

“We are pretty apprehensive right now about everything,” said Pranav Jandahyala, president of the nonpartisan student political organization BridgeCal. “But at the same time, what’s pushing us forward is our optimism. We truly believe we can put on a great event.”

In January, college Republicans cancelled a talk by right-wing commentator Yiannopoulos after violent protesters smashed windows and started a fire outside the event.

This time, the college Republicans are working with BridgeCal which says it’s hoping the university has a stronger security plan.

“This time we are definitely going to push them to provide more security than they did last time,” said Jandahlyala. “More officers on the ground instead of in the balcony.”

Coulter is expected to talk about immigration. Critics say she is anti-immigrant and her views racist.
