What I Learned in the Peace Corps in Africa: Trump Is Right

    By Karin McQuillan (c) 2017

Three weeks after college, I flew to Senegal, West Africa, to run a community
center in a rural town. Life was placid, with no danger, except to your health. That danger was considerable, because it was, in the words of the Peace Corps doctor, “a fecalized environment.”

In plain English: s— is everywhere. People defecate on the open ground, and the feces is blown with the dust – onto you, your clothes, your food, the water. He warned us the first day of training: do not even touch water. Human feces carries parasites that bore through your skin and cause organ failure.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a few decades later,
liberals would be pushing the lie that Western civilization is no better than a third-world country. Or would teach two generations of our kids that loving your own culture and wanting to preserve it are racism.

Last time I was in Paris, I saw a beautiful African woman in a grand boubou have her child defecate on the sidewalk next to Notre Dame Cathedral. The French police officer, ten steps from her, turned his head not to see.

I have seen. I am not turning my head and pretending unpleasant things are not true.

Senegal was not a hellhole. Very poor people can lead happy, meaningful lives
in their own cultures’ terms. But they are not our terms. The excrement is the least of it. Our basic ideas of human relations, rightand wrong, are incompatible.

As a twenty-one-year-old starting out in the Peace Corps, I loved Senegal. In fact, I was euphoric. I quickly made friends and had an adopted family. I relished the feeling of the brotherhood of man. People were open, willing to share their lives and, after they knew you, their innermost thoughts.

The longer I lived there, the more I understood: it became blindingly obvious that the Senegalese are not the same as us. The truths we hold to be self-evident are not evident to the Senegalese. How could they be? Their reality is totally different. You can’t understand anything in Senegal using American terms.

Enough is enough: Tenants join landlord in Bay Area exodus

Tony Hicks moved to San Jose in 1981, but he’s had enough.

Hicks told his 11 tenants he would soon place the three homes he owns on the market. He expected disappointment. Instead, most wanted to move with him to Colorado.

“It didn’t take them long,” Hicks said. “I was surprised.”

Rising prices, high taxes and his suspicion that the next big earthquake is just a few tremors away convinced the retired engineer to put his South San Jose properties up for sale.

The groundswell to leave Silicon Valley — the place of fortunes, world-changing tech and $2,500 a-month-garage apartments — has been building. For at least the last nine months, the San Francisco metro area has led the nation in the number of residents moving out, according to a survey by online brokerage Redfin.

San Jose real estate agent Sandy Jamison has seen many long-time residents and natives leave the state recently. The lack of available housing, leading to some of the priciest real estate in the country, is driving many from the region, she said.

Jamison has even drawn up a marketing flyer for the top five reasons people leave the Bay Area: high taxes, cost of living, quality of life from traffic to homelessness, politics and high housing prices. For many long-time residents, she said, “they feel like they don’t belong here any more.”

They left out “sanctuary city” policies – well that’s included in “politics” but not explicitly mentioned.

Former President Barack Obama gave a secret speech at the 2018 Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston

They’re proud that former President Barack Obama was giving a speech at their get-together, but they didn’t want anybody to talk or post on social media about it.

In a bizarre demand, the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference apparently called for attendees of Obama’s speech, which took place inside the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, to keep it a secret.

“The 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, will address the 2018 Sloan Sports Analytics Conference on February 23, 2018 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center,” a description of the ESPN-sponsored event says. “A lifelong sports fan and athlete, President Obama will address a wide range of subjects in his talk, from his most memorable moments in the White House, to his post-presidency plans.”

But attendees and members of the media were given a policy that requires them not to talk about it.

The first rule of seeing Barack Obama in Boston is don’t talk about seeing Barack Obama in Boston

The former president was scheduled to appear at a sports analytics conference hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Friday. But if you were not an attendee at the event, don’t expect to hear much about what Barack Obama shared.

Officials managing the 12th annual MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center have put strict rules in place that extend beyond barring the media from divulging Obama’s insights.

What did he say that everyone is so afraid the public might hear?

‘The day they ask me to carry a gun in the classroom is the last day I teach’

Yeah? Well you can learn how to dig through dumpsters and garbage cans for recyclables perhaps?

Kristen Frazier, an eighth-grade teacher in Fitchburg, accepts the grim possibility that she might have to risk her life and barricade a classroom door with her body in the event of a school shooting. She has also undergone training that helps teachers assess when they should flee, lock down, or try to fight back during an attack.

But as for President Trump’s suggestion that she and other teachers should be armed as a way to deter mass shootings like the one at a Florida high school last week? That crosses a line, Frazier said.

Sheesh, how dare they expect her to do something that might actually save lives. THE NERVE!

Moonbat Woman With Gun Rams Van Into Security Barrier at White House: Same woman who tried to scale White House fence twice in 2017.

U.S. Secret Service officers took 35-year-old Jessica Ford of La Vergne, Tennessee, into custody about 3 p.m. after she struck the pop-up barrier near the White House, at 17th and E streets, the Secret Service said.

No shots were fired and no one in law enforcement was injured in the incident, the Secret Service said, but a witness said he heard what he thought sounded like gunshots.

“After she hit the barricade, she just kept pressing on the gas and trying to push through, I guess,” Chris Bello said. “That’s what it looked like. And then they ordered her to stop, and they fire because she wouldn’t stop.”

According to a police report, an officer saw a gun in Ford’s hand before she was taken out of the van. The weapon was pointed in the opposite direction of the officers, and Ford ignored multiple commands from officers to drop the gun. Two officers had to take the gun from her hands before forcibly removing her from the van, the report said.

Officers arrested Ford and charged her with unlawful entry, carrying a pistol without a license, unregistered firearm, aggravated assault on a police officer, assault with a dangerous weapon-car, destruction of government property and contempt of court.

Records state that while officers were taking Ford to jail she said “she had the ‘BB gun’ because if James Burris was the president the officers would shoot her to protect him and that she knowingly brought the gun with her.”

A law enforcement official said the Secret Service knows Ford because she’s been around the White House before. She’s believed to have mental or emotional issues.

On May 17, 2017, Ford was caught scaling the White House fence. She was rearrested July 6 when she violated a stay-away order at the White House.

Ford was again charged with several criminal violations and taken to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Someone is faking e-mails… and I would tend to suspect it is CNN.

But even if that’s not true, what is true is the e-mails still tend to support the important elements of the story told by the student – that CNN pressured them to stay “on message” and would not allow them to say anything that wasn’t agreed in advance – I guess CNN doesn’t realize this, but it proves they were trying to “script” the event:

Colton Haab, a survivor of last week’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., said Thursday on Fox News that CNN had initially asked him to “write a speech and ask questions” for the event but that a producer ultimately scripted a question for him. CNN has denied that claim.

According to Business Insider, CNN and Haab agreed on the question that he would ask at the town hall. His father, Glenn Haab, pulled his son out of the event after the network refused to let the student read a lengthy speech at the event.

Both versions of the e-mail support this contention.

Norway teen massacre films lead Berlin fest race

The Berlinale, Europe’s first major cinema showcase of the year, will hand out its coveted Golden and Silver Bear top prizes at a gala ceremony starting at 1800 GMT.

A six-member jury headed by German director Tom Tykwer (“Run Lola Run”, Netflix series “Babylon Berlin”) will choose among 19 contenders from around the world.

Reviewers were impressed with the gut-wrenching drama “U-July 22” about the mass murder of 69 mainly teenage victims on the Norwegian island of Utoya by far-right militant Anders Behring Breivik.

The film, featuring in a chilling single 72-minute take, recounts the carnage in real time with fictionalised characters.

It premiered just days after one of the worst school shootings in US history, killing 17 in Florida.

The movie sparked a heated debate among viewers, victims’ families and survivors about whether it was too soon — or even necessary at all — to reenact Norway’s most traumatic tragedy since World War II on screen.

  12. Bodhisattva says:

Try enforcing existing gun laws before launching new ones

Here we go again with yet another “national conversation” about guns that is neither a conversation nor national. And not productive.

Understandably, as with the Newtown, Conn., elementary school massacre in 2012, the agonized outcries and visceral fears after the outrageous Broward high school deaths on Feb. 14 erupt from parents who entrust their most prized treasures to a public school. The betrayal is horrendous. The suffering unimaginable. And we flail around trying to find answers for the unimaginable, the inexplicable, the unacceptable.

There must be something we can do to prevent such awful events. There is. We could have.

No one needs a crystal ball to know what will come of all this: Nothing. Same as after previous incidents.

Not true. Despite his “phone and pen”, Obama did nothing, essentially, but talk.

    Trump is taking action already.

Remember a little more than five years ago to protect himself against political backlash, President Obama handed the molten gun-control debate to Vice President Joe Biden to honcho new restrictions through Congress so school shootings would never happen again? Nothing.

We could do what Israel’s been doing in large schools for decades after terrorists killed scores of children in an attack. Lock the doors. Train and arm a few unidentified teachers to conceal-carry.

Train and arm… EXACTLY what I was suggesting the day this happened.

Perhaps some new restrictions will be necessary. Recall after the even worse mass shooting in Las Vegas last fall even the National Rifle Association endorsed restrictions on the so-called bump stocks that turned his long guns into virtual automatic weapons. What happened after that “national conversation”?

Nothing, until just this week when PRESIDENT TRUMP ordered a ban.

Sadly no indication that any of them learned a thing about how they vote.

  17. Mr. Freemarket says:

The other question is how much was his speaking fee?

  18. Mr. Freemarket says:

For more admirable to barricade yourself, using your body as a shield rather than to use an effective weapon to be able to fight back. The other thing that liberals don’t understand is that about 98% of the time a person carrying a gun is forced to produce that gun, no shots are fired.

Simply having a gun in most cases will stop a violent crime.

  19. Mr. Freemarket says:

Although the paper is long and I didn’t read most of it, let’s also remember that Sweden, like the rest of Europe has not had to pay much for defense since WWII. Therefore they were able to spend a much larger fraction of their economy on welfare, being subsidized by the US.

  20. Mr. Freemarket says:

The left loves to propagandize violence committed by the “right.” That’s why we have endless films about Nazi Germany, yet virtually nothing is produced documenting the tens of millions killed by Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.

The holocaust of the unborn in the US also seems verboten.

  21. Mr. Freemarket says:

I note that law enforcement was notified about this school shooter 39 times; notified he had weapons, notified he intended to become a school shooter.

Yet the problem is with guns?????

  22. Mr. Freemarket says:

Well that’s not entirely true, the officer on campus took cover. Of course that isn’t what he was supposed to do, but he did do something.

  23. Bodhisattva says:

This confessed killer had a long history of anti-social behavioral problems and mental trouble – just like some of the others.

Neighbors report he killed small animals for sport in an urban environment – a classic sign of a potential nutcase.

He’s been a long-time problem in high school such that it expelled him.

Fellow students warned, specifically and repeatedly, that he was going to do what he did.

Police visited his home 39 times due to serious calls concerning him.

In 2016, the kid made a Snapchat video while cutting his arms and announcing he was going to buy a gun.

The FBI got a tip he was vowing online he was going to become a professional school shooter. Too busy pursuing false charges against Trump, they ignored it.

In January, on a government tip line a man told an FBI employee about his behavior, gun and plans to shoot up a school. The tip went nowhere. FBI STILL TOO BUSY TRYING TO GO AFTER TRUMP TO CARE.

NOAA Caught Lying About Arctic Sea Ice

Here’s what the NOAA is claiming, as relayed in a scaremongering piece at Vox:

The Arctic Ocean once froze reliably every year. Those days are over.

Arctic sea ice extent has been measured by satellites since the 1970s. And scientists can sample ice cores, permafrost records, and tree rings to make some assumptions about the sea ice extent going back 1,500 years. And when you put that all on a chart, well, it looks a little scary.

If you’re still worried that the Arctic is about to disappear, here are more papers confirming that Arctic sea ice is well within its normal range of variability.

One of them, Stein et al. argues that there is more Arctic sea ice now than there has been for most of the last 10,000 years:

  26. Bodhisattva says:

And besides, the NAZIs were socialists, left wingers, who happened to have very few things in common with the right wing.

And while I use (and sometimes misuse) then too, left and right are actually not good terms, as this video, which you’ve probably seen from me before, explains:

  27. Bodhisattva says:

True. Plus the differences I noted, plus others.

They don’t have to print everything in 50 languages like we do here in California, making it much cheaper, for instance.

  28. Bodhisattva says:

Of course it is. Even though government clearly failed, repeatedly (the FBI got at least 2 notifications but was so busy chasing nothing about Trump to bother), it’s still plain more government is the answer.

  29. Mr. Freemarket says:

Plus, in Sweden, everyone knows we are “in this together.” Dealing with temperatures of 40 below tends to focus the thinking on survival.

That is, of course, until they lost their minds and thought importing third world barbarians was a good idea. Maybe the women longed for the days when vikings were around, rather than guys willing to wear pussy hats.

    Thor weeps.

  30. Mr. Freemarket says:

The left has been very inventive and successful in convincing the masses that the Nazis were “right wing.” National Socialists fought with International Socialists in WWII…after they had originally cooperated with each other. People with much in common have often fought with each other.

    Great video, BTW.

Wanted to compete in the boys’ wrestling league, state legislation requires to compete in the league for the gender designated at birth (female).

It was Beggs’ steroid therapy treatments while wrestling girls that stirred a fierce debate about competitive fairness and transgender rights last season in 2017.

  32. Bodhisattva says:

Surprised Obama didn’t try this – I really expected him to pull something. Imagine him using an executive order to try and suspend the Twenty-second Amendment on some pretense:

In a move likely to pave the way for Chinese leader Xi Jinping to stay at the country’s helm beyond his second five-year term, the ruling Communist Party’s Central Committee has proposed to remove term limits for the president and vice president.
