    Romney still holds the lead in the popular vote, indicating that this race is closer than the media would like us to believe. Some states “called” for Obama might not necessarily go to him when it’s all said and done, once the recounts settle. Heck, if Gary Johnson had done the smart thing and dropped out Romney would have already won by now (thanks, asshole).

    But worst case, it’s only four years. Thanks to an amendment it’s unconstitutional for him to run for a third term, and as long as we survive this I doubt anyone in their right mind will vote Democrat the next election.

First, Romney’s winning the popular vote right now because the electoral count includes projections and the popular vote only includes counted votes, which means the liberal west coast is counted in the former but not the latter. Second, the map looks red because rural areas go conservative. Duh. Third, if you decide to ignore those first two points and continue to rant about how we need to get rid of the electoral college, think again: the college benefits conservatives because it overweights less populated red states like Wyoming and underweights more densely populated blue states like California. Do the math, as an IL voter, my vote is worth approximately 1/5 of what someone from Wyoming’s is worth.

    Also, grow up. I know that Fox News has filled your heads with apocalypse and gore, but it wasn’t the end of the world when Bush got elected (though it came close) and it’s not the end of the world now that Obama’s won four more years.

    Treasury Quietly Warns: ‘Expect Debt Limit to Be Reached Near End of 2012’

    NOTE TO WHOEVER ENDS UP RUNNING THE HOUSE: No more compromises. No more increases in the debt limit. Time to live within our means.

    Although Treasury revealed in its statement on Wednesday that it was likely to hit the debt limit by the end of the year, Treasury Secretary Geithner failed to respond to a letter that Senate Finance Ranking Member Orrin Hatch and Senate Budget Ranking Member Jeff Sessions sent to him on Oct. 15 demanding that he notify them by Nov. 1 what he believes to be the exact date Treasury will hit the debt limit and the date he expects to begin using “extraordinary measures” to avoid it.

    Prior to the release of this statement, Sen. Hatch and Sen. Sessions sent Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner a letter asking him specific questions about the approaching debt limit and the administration’s plans for dealing with it. Hatch’s and Sessions’s questions included these two: 1) “What is Treasury’s forecast of the date upon which Treasury will find it necessary to use extraordinary measures to manage to keep federal debt at or below the statutory debt limit?” 2) “What is Treasury’s forecast of the date upon which the U.S. government will reach the statutory debt limit given use and exhaustion of these extraordinary measures?”

    The senators gave Geithner a “hard deadline” of Nov. 1 for providing an initial response to these questions. Julia Lawless, spokesperson for the Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee, confirmed that as of Nov. 6 the committee had received no response from the Treasury secretary.

    As of Oct. 31, according to the Daily Treasury Statement (DTS), the portion of the federal debt subject to the legal limit was $16,222,235,000,000–just $171.765 billion below the $16,394,000,000 debt limit.

    In October alone, according to the DTS, the debt subject to the limit increased by $195.214 billion.

    1. Here are some things to consider. The EPA is mandating rules that are shutting down coal-fired power plants. Coal production has been reduced about 33%. About 45% of our electrical energy comes from coal. With the EPA regulations, plan on the electrical grid having less power to keep your lights on and your home warm.

    2. The real unemployment rate is about 10.5%. New taxes will be imposed with ObamaCare, and, unless congress acts quickly, tax rates will increase on everyone January 1, 2013. Now I know it is difficult for liberals to understand this as being a problem, so I will try and use a simple example.

    What does the government do to get people to stop smoking? If you said “raise taxes,” you would be correct. That is because most people understand that increased taxes act as a deterrent on peoples’ actions.

    So, when the government raises taxes on the productive members of society (the innovators, the job creators, etc.,) will they not respond by becoming less productive?

    3. When Obama was elected in 2008, the national debt was 10 trillion dollars, and the GDP was about 14 trillion dollars. Now the national debt is 16 trillion dollars and the GDP is 14 trillion dollars. By 2016, the national debt will be 20 trillion dollars (or more) and we will be very lucky if the GDP remains as high as 14 trillion dollars. How much will the government have to pay in interest costs every year on a 20 trillion dollar debt if the interest rate is a typical 5%?

    Any clearer?

    Did those presidents alienate our closest ally in the Middle East – Israel – and ask her to return to 1967 borders (insuring her demise), and refuse to declare Jerusalem as their capital as it has essentially been for thousands of years?

    Did those presidents have a “total gun ban” background and did they hire an attorney general and chief of staff who are vehemently against the Second Amendment?

    Were those presidents sued by a multitude of individual states for a multitude of reasons?

    Did those presidents have Muslim roommates in college?

    Did those presidents have a confessed Communist mentor?

    Did those presidents leave the black community with a realistic 20% unemployment rate?

    Did those presidents say they would create jobs, and then hold a jobs summit where unions and governmental agencies were invited, but the Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business were not?

    Did those presidents say they would not give medical care to an unborn child who was in the process of surviving an abortion?

    Did those presidents say persons who helped the border patrol, who put Ron Paul stickers on their bumpers, who flew a Gadsden flag, who were fluent in short wave radio, or who were ex-members of the military who might question the motives of Homeland Security, should be considered for placement on the terror watch list?

    Did those presidents constrain and endanger our frontline military members by hampering them with deadly self-defeating “rules of engagement?”

    For two years not that long ago I was on staff full time at a major Christian church. Eventually, I became disenchanted by the covert fiscal corruption of the particular ministry for which I worked, through which flowed approximately $2M annually. When I brought my concerns to their attention, I was basically told to mind my own business. I left the ministry and that particular church shortly thereafter.

    From that experience I learned many things, including:

    1. If enough money is involved, whatever the endeavor, corruption will follow.

    2. Self-proclaimed uber-zealots (religious, political, educational, military, etc — apparently makes no difference) are not necessarily immune to temptation or self-deceit.

    3. People who don’t think they will get caught will, without a second thought, take immense risks disproportionate to the perceived rewards. Over time, such behavior becomes so deeply ingrained that it becomes standard operation procedure, a part of their culture.

    4. When confronted with evidence of their wrongdoing, such people will quickly throw others under the bus to protect themselves, and will rationalize away their actions as either not their fault or as being somehow for the greater good. But never is their excrement odoriferous. (In my youth, we said “They think their shit don’t stink.”)

    I could go on, at length.

    One potential takeaway here is — does this sound in any way like any governmental administration we might all know? In some ways, the similarities between politics and religion are striking.

    Anyway, I kicked the dust of that particular church off of my sandals and have not looked back. Life has improved since then, as I am no longer troubled by the illegal, immoral, unethical and unsafe practices of that ministry and those charged with its shepherding. I am still in the word (of a fashion), still talk to and listen for Him and still lead my life according to Biblical principles and teachings. I am, however, still searching for a new home church, and have become disenchanted with organized religion.

    But I ramble. Again, thanks for the reminder. I undoubtedly needed it.

    The article claims Xcel needs rate increases to expand it’s nuclear plants, while demand is DECREASING ?
    Believe it or not, the decrease in demand is what is keeping the power supply from being interrupted now .
    This is the first summer in a long time where power was not lost in the heat of late afternoon.
    Any economic growth here would overtax the system before long.
    Also look for intermittent disruptions in fuel supplies as the Democrats in states and Feds tussle over regulations, blends, and mandates.
    These will do more damage than if they simply taxed it.
    The coming command economy will try to dictate what should be produced.
    But this will provide opportunity for those who know where to look for it.
    It will also cause great hardship to those who voted for it and are now expecting utopia from it.

    The good news is, as bad as things are, it should take more than 4 years for the debt to become completely unpayable unless the Democrats go absolutely bonkers. Barring a major disaster or homeland invasion, they would have to triple or quadruple spending to cause a collapse before Obama hits his term limit.

    It will be a lot more painful to pay off though. If we had started restoring fiscal sanity this election, we could have gradually eased off entitlements and we would have still had enough money to keep one or two around in a more efficient form. But if Obama sticks to his current course, by the next election it will be so bad that the only mathematically possible way to balance the budget will be to go cold turkey, eliminate entitlements entirely. And that will be excruciatingly painful for the nation.

    But, if we can get Congress to start slowing and reducing the spending, we may be able to reduce the damage and buy ourselves enough time that we can ease off the entitlements gradually in 2016. It’ll still be more rushed and disruptive than if we had started now, but we can stop it from having to be a total system shock.

    Here’s what the liberals have to look forward to:
    1. The US dollar is abandoned as the world’s reserve currency. No longer will all nations use dollars for buying oil. Those increasingly worthless dollars will buy less oil. Gas prices will continue to increase. Anyone think that $8.00 per gallon gasoline will help the economy to grow?

    2. As gasoline prices continue in increase, our government will also mandate more corn be turned into ethanol. Corn will also become more expensive because it takes a lot of energy to raise, harvest and transport corn. Food prices will increase from breakfast cereal to eggs to meat. Hamburger already costs $3,00 per pound. Plan on it increasing several more dollars per pound, along with most other staples.

    3. The government owns you. They can force you to buy anything they think appropriate. Kids in high schools are already experiencing what it is like to have the government mandate their school lunch menu. Plan on a lot more of that.

    4. Medicare care will become more scarce. Doctors will have to work longer hours to see more patients for less money. That will result in fewer US citizens entering medical school, and more doctors retiring early. Plan on more doctors from India. We might even get some doctors from Burma.

    5. Financial collapse. While the government can print more money, you can’t. Every dollar you have saved will be worth less. Every dollar you get paid will be worthless. If the government needs to buy gasoline at $28.00 per gallon…no problem. They can print more. If you have to buy some gas, good luck. When will you get your next raise (assuming you have a job)?

Most folks will find a way to eat. Not so for people in third world countries. As corn prices increase, they will less able to feed themselves. Millions will starve to death. Liberal policies (and corn into ethanol is a liberal policy) will result in millions of deaths in poorer countries.

    As for the government forcing you to buy one thing or another, think again. You will have to buy health insurance or be fined. If government motors doesn’t sell enough cars, do you think they can’t impose taxes on your purchase of non-Government Motors cars?

    How about cheaper prescription drugs from other countries? You think that will become easier or harder?

    I closed a small business in NYC and at the time others were doing the same. I even met a gay restaurant owner who told me he absolutely loathes obama and despises the democrat party.

    I met quite a number of sundry small business owners who were closing around the same time I did.

    And yes, it did get even worse from 2008 to 2010.

    Some of the people leaving had plans to reopen down South, in the Carolinas and in Florida.

    Now that obama is back in I KNOW I made the right choice for me and my family. Glad I didn’t try to ride out the rest of his term and lose all I have..
