Polar Bear Hunting Still the Rage in Champaign, Illinois

Just because the news media refuses to report on the violence doesn’t mean it is safe yet to engage in the practice of walking while white. After four separate assaults occurred on the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign campus over a 40-minute period last Saturday, the local News-Gazette refused to even mention the violence. Fortunately the student newspaper the Daily Illini had more integrity:

Four incidents of mob action, battery and strong armed robbery that occurred in the early morning hours Saturday caused the University Police Department to issue a public safety advisory.

From the University of Illinois Police Department’s advisory email, via Guns Save Lives:

Between 3:30 a.m. and 4:10 a.m. there were four similar incidents where individuals (5 victims) who were walking in the campus area were approached and battered for no apparent reason. Based on the circumstances, it is possible that all victims were battered by the same group of suspects. In one incident, the suspects exited two vehicles, battered the victim and left the area in the vehicles. In the other cases it appears the suspects were walking together in a group just prior to battering the victims. During some of these encounters, the suspects would ask the victim for an item or verbalize general threats just prior to the battery. One victim had a cell phone taken. None of the victims sustained major injuries, but some did seek medical treatment for cuts and bruises.

The offender descriptions finish off with a laugh-worthy disclaimer:

In all the cases, the victims described the suspects as a group of black males. The number in the group ranged from 6 to 8. One victim stated the suspects appeared around 25 years old and were dressed in tee shirts and jeans. Another victim stated the suspects exited two vehicles prior to the battery and described the vehicles as a SUV and a passenger car.

Information about the race or ethnicity of alleged offenders is provided only to aid detailed descriptions that include physical stature, clothing or unusual characteristics. Racial descriptions do not, by themselves, offer a meaningful picture of an individual’s appearance.

Comically apologizing for the thought crime of not leaving the reader to assume that the perpetrators are black is better than not mentioning race at all, since race is the first salient feature in identifying culprits. Describing them as young men who may or may not still be wearing t-shirts and jeans like everyone else on campus wouldn’t be much help.

Liberals naturally believe that racial descriptions of criminal suspects should be banned (see here and here).

Due to political correctness, the media and other authorities are rarely forthcoming about certain threats people face. This is why parents are remiss in the extreme if they never sit their kids down for The Talk.

Nah, don’t trust Springfield XDs and the like. Too many recalls. Go Glock, M&P, HK, FN, or CZ instead

    🙂

No matter how reliable pistols become (and there are some pretty damn nice ones out there), there’s just something about a nice revolver. For one thing, unlike some of the plastic fantastics out there, there is not a nanosecond of doubt as to what you are facing when you look down the business end, and can see those hollow points in the cylinder. And a well-maintained Smith is pretty much never going to let you down.

I’ve wanted a performance center 625 for a while now, but my new toy kitty keeps getting raided for things like auto repairs. Such is life.

And while you’re struggling to dump the empties and reload your revolver, I can drop an empty mag and reload in about 2 seconds, with 13rds of asskicking .45acp, in my Springfield XD.

BTW, I don’t know where you got your information on XD’s from but I’ve put a few thousand rds through mine w/o one malfunction.

I know three people with Springfield polymer pistols of one flavor or another. Two love ’em, one doesn’t. Each to their own. If it works for you, that’s all that matters.

As to the choice between revolvers and pistols, I’ve never seen a reason to choose only one myself. Though I’m not fond of doublestack .45’s (small mitts).

I moved from Urbana to Fort Worth about 5 months ago and its the best decision i have ever made in my life. Getting a concealed carry in Illinois is not easy. But putting down a few feral beast might quell this behavior.

i went to the U of Ill. in the 80’s. I’ve still got friends there and they first told me about “polar bear hunting” back in the early 90’s if I recall correctly. Point being it’s been going on for quite a while now. They told me I was lucky (after graduating, getting a job in another state) because I’d be a prime target. Male, big and white. My accessory of choice is the 1911. And lots of range time. Nothing like stopping power.

    True enough.

I was at a gun school, having to use a revolver as a backup to my primary (Ruger .45) and right after I was done bitching about obsolete revolvers, during the shooting session, the barrel blew off of the S&W .38 at the forcing cone as I was moving and shooting!!! Scared the shit out of me and the instructor. This was a “shoot and move” school and it was quite an event!

Great too see a pic of the Illini Chief . One of the most respected person, so to speak, that ever walked the grounds at the U of I. North end minorities have been victimizing students since late 60’s. I wrote many of those reports myself.
