Researchers Confirm: Government Draws Workers of Lower Moral Caliber

It takes a certain type of moral character to make a suitable government apparatchik. Recent research should make life easier for Big Government recruiters:

College students who cheated on a simple task were more likely to want government jobs, researchers from Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania found in a study of hundreds of students in Bangalore, India.

Their results, recently released as a working paper by the National Bureau of Economic Research, suggest that one of the contributing forces behind government corruption could be who gets into government work in the first place.

Honesty was tested by letting subjects roll dice and report the results; higher reported rolls resulted in higher payment. Aspiring bureauweenies unsurprisingly reported rolling lots of sixes.

“Overall, we find that dishonest individuals — as measured by the dice task — prefer to enter government service,” wrote Hanna and coauthor Shing-yi Wang, an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

They added, “Importantly, we show that cheating on this task is also predictive of fraudulent behaviors by real government officials.”

Government workers who reported higher rolls were more likely to miss work. Government absenteeism is largely fraudulent.

Another test found that aspiring government workers were more likely to be greedy.

Hopefully no one is surprised by the results. Sluggish, coercion-based government is the ideal environment for those who are greedy, dishonest, slothful, and in general of inferior character. That is why we are ruled by the worst among us, and why only fools would want Big Government running their lives.

  3. Jolth Walton says:

Clock milking incompetents who couldn’t run a whorehouse outside a lumber mill while thinking they are God’s gift to intellect with their worthless diploma mill degree and are so intellectually curious they stay in some hive mind groupthink fog on the democRAT plantation because it will guarantee their cush jobs.

Many people understand that for the most part, a govt. job is a great place to hide for those looking to avoid doing any real work. This, by the very nature of their work, does not include first responders. I knew a guy who walked around looking busy and carrying an empty folder for 15 years. Then he retired with a full pension. No one really knew, or cared, what his job was. They just said “Hi” when he walked by.

The bigger the govt., the easier it is to abuse it’s systems. Just ask 47% of the people in this country, and, the illegals. Human nature being what it is, and given the opportunity to abuse a system, they will.

Hell, I’ve known that for many years.

Well the earlier story about the D-Bag at DHS what his face Ayo Kimathi. A good example of a uneducated dishonest asshat hired by Government. One wish I would have would to have DC encircled by a large wall that would also include the burbs around Washington. Once done artillery would be ranged around it and once the command of FIRE would be given the entire DC kill Box would be leveled and nothing would be left all done old school WW2 style.

Wow Bo Jangles I swear I met that exact same guy here in Oz.

In the Summer holidays my wife who lectures for one of the Universities here also marks exams for chinese students, apparently some deal done between unis about it. Anyway she found that every single student answered all 6 questions EXACTLY the same way. They literally cut and pasted from the book. So she failed them all. Should’ve seen the fuss. During all the hullabalo it came out that one of the Chinese University towns had decided to get serious on the entrance exams by no longer allowing cheating. I kid you not. Almost the entire town, including parents, held a mass protest. One placard that was held up said that it wasn’t fair to prevent cheating. They demanded the right to cheat to enter the uni.
Our previous government wailed that our students weren’t performing as well as the chinese because the chinese were pumping out 20,000 Masters Degrees a month. Utterly valueless degrees that set the students up to fail when they get a job.
Its easy to see how the education systems are failing across the world. They no longer teach critical or independant thinking. We as parents HAVE to take the reigns and educate the kids ourselves.

Know why government workers dont look out the windows in the mornings?

They want to have something to do in the afternoons.
