RINOs on Parade: Orrin Hatch

Utah Senator Orrin Hatch is no friend of anyone who values our fundamental right to keep and bear arms. Here’s why:

During negotiations over the 1986 McClure-Volkmer Firearms Owners Protection Act — designed to protect gun owners from abuses of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms — Hatch sat at the negotiating table next to officials of the ATF and argued against the pro-gun positions of Sen. Jim McClure.

Though a senior member of the Senate, Hatch did nothing to block camels-nose legislation slammed through by Republican leader Bob Dole in the late 1980s to regulate armor-piercing bullets and outlaw non-existent “plastic guns.”

As ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1993-4, Hatch refused to filibuster the Brady Law, even though it would have been possible to kill it.

He supported the 1996 Lautenberg amendment to impose a lifetime gun ban on people guilty of “domestic misdemeanors” — a term so amorphous that it could apply to spanking your kid or engaging in a verbal argument.

In the wake of the Columbine shooting, Hatch voted for amendments which would have effectively banned gun shows, made it more difficult to keep a loaded gun in your home for self-defense, and codified the Bush-era semi-auto import ban. …

In 2007, Hatch supported the Veterans Disarmament Act — which could strip the Second Amendment rights of honorably discharged veterans who seek professional counseling following traumatic wartime experiences.

Over the following two years, while GOA [Gun Owners of America] was working with pro-gun Senators to repeal the gun ban in national parks, Hatch voted against repeal before voting for it in 2009.

Last year, Hatch opposed an amendment offered by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to exempt gun buyer information from the Obama administration’s virtually unlimited ability to seize “business records” under the reauthorization of post-9/11 legislation.

Sen. Hatch hasn’t exactly stood up to the Obama administration, either. He voted in favor of regulatory “czar” Cass Sunstein, who favors a ban on hunting and who would grant animals legal protections in court.

And, despite repeated pleas from GOA members, he voted to confirm Eric Holder as Attorney General. In addition to being mired in the Fast and Furious scandal, Holder was the point man on gun control for President Bill Clinton and is a vocal supporter of banning many semiautomatic firearms.

Former State Senator Dan Liljenquist and State Rep. Chris Herrod — both strong supporters of the Second Amendment — are trying to dislodge the entrenched Hatch, who has held the seat since 1977. Best of luck to them.

Don’t let Jared Loughner see this.

He also helped expedite Ruth Badgirl Ginsburg’s Supreme Court appointment thru the Senate approval process.

    Thanks for nothing, Orrin.

  2. redneek24 says:

Hatch is also the go to guy for the MSM whenever they need a “conservative” republican to bash a real conservative.

  3. Sam Adams says:

Hatch better be worried that he won’t make it through the state convention process, suffering the same result as Bob Bennett.
    Sorry, Orrin; time to retire.

  4. Fiberal says:

    I really loathe this guy.

This is a great opportunity to get rid of this RINO who has made a career of institutionalizing liberalism.

Dole is gone, but Hatch continues his long career as a low-grade infection in Washington’s bowels.

I’m not a Utahinian, but perhaps someone can take up the slack.

    Here’s contact information.

Personally, i’ve always viewed Hatch as someone who’s far more interested in how he’s dressed, and how he looks on camera, than what he’s actually doing. He also seems incapable of saying anything unless it’s been writen down for him. The sign of a true phony.

I wonder how long after he’s been replaced that we’ll find out he’s actually gay?

  6. Son of Taz says:

When the subject of term limits comes up, Dems like to say that elections are term limits. Many also assume that when Republicans mention limits, they want to limit a Dem’s time in office. For sure, when the House or Senate has a Ted Kennedy or Robert Byrd, term limits would be useful.

Well libs, here’s a shining example of why term limits should be the law of the land. Hatch has built himself a fiefdom that keeps him in office year after year. He’s been infected with Potomac fever and now is so out of touch, nothing can bring him back.

Hatch is also a perfect example of how the Republican party has been hijacked by liberals and why the perception there’s only one party in this country flourishes. Starting a third party is not going to work. Gaining control of the existing Republican isn’t going to be easy, but it’s far more possible than a third party.

    C’mon Utah, sent Hatch packing.

  7. IslandLifer says:

This is why the Republican party is over. Done! I have been a registered R my entire life but after the primaries I go to Independant. Independent from all these fake ass politicians who have destroyed this country. A 3rd party is badly needed.

  8. Mary says:

Power corrupts- and Hatch has been in Government for 36 years. Hatch needs to come home and live under the crippling laws he supports. The terrible power granted the President by the NDAA was supported by Hatch. “People should not be afraid of their government. The government should be afraid of their people.” – Jefferson. Hatch hates the internet as well as free individuals having power to defend themselves:

Orrin Hatch going home to “Whip Up a Batch” RINO asshat. Time to RETIRE HIM !

  11. Gryff says:

The California ballot initiative being pushed by Front Sight is a BAD idea, and will not serve well California’s gun owners and their efforts to liberalize concealed carry. Unfortunately, Front Sight supports it because one of the clauses is the doubling of required training, which means quite a bit of potential revenue for them.
