Sharia-Compliant Sex-Segregated Beach in Brooklyn

On September 12, 2001, if you had told any New Yorker that the city would soon segregate beaches largely to comply with the dictates of Islam, you might have received a black eye. Yet now we read of a sharia-compliant sex-segregated beach in Brooklyn:

City Councilman Chaim Deutsch announced the first ever “Southern Brooklyn Beach Day,” with separate dates for men and women by the sandy spot behind Kingsborough Community College.

“A lot of people are disenfranchised for religious reasons,” the Democrat said. “They don’t use the beach because they don’t go mixed swimming. This is to give those people an opportunity for a day out at the beach.”

Deutsch is an observant Jew, and the point is supposedly to cater to both Muslims and Orthodox Jews. However, Jews have been prevalent in New York for some time, without beaches becoming sex-segregated. Bending over backward to pander to Muslims is a phenomenon that began soon after the World Trade Center came down. Whether the beach will be safe for Jews when a large number of Muslims are present is doubtful.

As is often the case with Islamopandering, the moonbattery runs contrary to other moonbattery:

City law says public accommodations cannot exclude people based on sex unless there’s an exemption “based on bona fide consideration of public policy.”

With moonbats in control, Islam is generally good for an exemption. Orthodox Judaism, not so much.

Let’s hope the beach doesn’t end up like some in the Toronto area.
